Chapter 71: Duke’s daughter and the princess
When Julian-sama saw me, he briefly showed a surprised expression but quickly reverted to his usual stoic face. His expression in this moment made me feel like I was back in the world before the reversal, and my emotions were strongly shaken.
“However, it was a somewhat sudden invitation. I did not take enough consideration. Please forgive my rudeness, Princess Chai.”
“No, I won’t forgive you. Quatra-sama just doesn’t like me, so this is all just a harassment.”
“That’s not true! Aliseteen-sama did nothing wrong! We did it on our own because we wanted to become closer to the princess!”
Sanna and the others, who were hiding behind me, now stepped forward to protect me.
“Sanna, please stop. This is not your place.”
“But Aliseteen-sama shouldn’t have to bear all the blame alone. I can’t stand for that!”
The other young ladies also nodded vigorously in agreement with Sanna’s words. Although I didn’t change my expression, inside, I felt like shouting with joy.
“The young ladies here just wanted to listen to Slophone’s story. There’s no need to blame them, including Alise.”
Julian-sama spoke emotionlessly.
Princess Chai glared at me with a face that seemed like she might even click her tongue. However, she seemed to remember that she was trying to act innocent and put on a sad expression, looking up at Julian-sama with upturned eyes.
“I was suddenly cornered by everyone here and was very scared. If it was Quatra-sama’s fault, I won’t be satisfied until she takes responsibility.”
Certainly, it wasn’t a commendable action to suddenly approach a princess like this, even if we were fellow students in the same academy.
But the previous her would never blame someone like this, hiding behind her position.
“Princess Slophone, Alise did nothing wrong. It is wrong to hold her responsible.”
“Julian-sama, are you protecting Quatra-sama instead of me? That’s not fair!”
“I am only saying that it is unwise to make a fuss over such a trivial matter.”
Watching him maintain his calm tone, Princess Chai’s large eyes filled with clear, beautiful tears.
“It’s terrible. Nobody is on my side. The people of Luvalantia are ignoring me, a princess.”
“Princess Chai, it’s okay if I go on suspension for a while.”
“Alise.”
I held up a hand to stop Julian-sama, who was about to argue, and looked straight at Princess Chai. I didn’t avert my gaze or hunch my back.
“Considering that I am the daughter of the Duke Quatra, I humbly request that you have a broad heart and do not punish anyone other than me, Princess Chai.”
“I understand what you mean without you having to say it.”
“Thank you for your kindness.”
She snorted before lowering her eyes to show respect. It seemed that she wouldn’t inquire any further.
“Alise, you don’t need to go on suspension.”
“Julian-sama.”
He went silent when I called his name as if reproving him. He still seemed like he wanted to say something, but I pretended not to notice and gracefully turned my skirt before leaving the place.
