Marie and her group arrive in a large city, which serves as the base for the Sorcerer King.
After parting ways with Kaito, Marie enters the city with only the Nine-tailed Fox.

Countless Yokai roam the surroundings.
Yet, none of them seem to notice Marie, an intruder.

『What the heck is going on. . . . . .?』
“It’s because I’m using a curse that inhibits recognition.”

A black mist surrounds and envelops Marie.
ㅤ
『Isn’t this a barrier spell?! And it’s also been imbued with a high-level curse to inhibit recognition. . . . . .』
“Curses are surprisingly useful, you know.”

Magic generally works outwardly, like for attacks.
Curses, on the other hand, tend to have effects that work inwardly.

『You’ve mastered barrier spells even though you didn’t learn them? You really are strange.』
“Strange? Do you mean weak?”
『No, I mean you’re an outlier! Seriously. . . . . .』

Marie casually walks through the city.

“Hey, I’m bored. Talk to me.”
『Geez. . . . . . fine. Do you know why the Sorcerer King came to this world?』
“I don’t know. This world?”
『The Sorcerer King, Abeno Haruakira-sama, is originally from a different world.』

Marie learns about the Sorcerer King’s origins from the Nine-tailed Fox.
He apparently traveled here from a star in another world called Earth.

“Huh. . . . . . How?”
『He used a special power called World Door.』
“Oh. . . . . . World Door, huh. So it’s a door that can go between worlds.”
『Exactly. The Sorcerer King was able to use it.』

Marie tilts her head slightly.
ㅤ
“Why did he bother coming to another world? He could have just stayed in his original world.”
『He’s seeking stronger practitioners.』
“Practitioners?”
『I mean sorcerers.』
“Why is he seeking stronger opponents?”

The Nine-tailed Fox lowers its voice.
ㅤ
『To develop a spell to resurrect his mother.』
ㅤ
Apparently, Abeno Haruakira had a mother.
ㅤ
But she was killed by humans.
The Sorcerer King wants to master sorcery in order to bring her back to life.
ㅤ
『To level up as a practitioner, the Sorcerer King fought endlessly. But eventually, his growth halted.』
“Why?”
『He couldn’t find anyone stronger than himself.』

The experience of fighting strong opponents turns into strength.
It seems that you can’t get stronger by defeating weaker beings.
ㅤ

“So, he came to another world to find strong opponents?”
『Exactly.』
“Huh. . . . . . so even our enemies have their reasons.”
ㅤ
Well, it doesn’t really matter to Marie.
Then, the Nine-tailed Fox, looking hesitant yet resolved, speaks.

『Miss Witch, I have a favor to ask.』
“What is it?”
ㅤ
Stopping, Marie looks at the Nine-tailed Fox.
She speaks with a very serious expression.
ㅤ
“Could you please not fight with the Sorcerer King?”
