My Children Swarm the Cosmos – Chapter 3

𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐳 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 (3)

🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸

It is difficult to imprint instincts so that bioweapons are loyal to humans. Even more absurd is giving them similar levels of intelligence to humans so that they can understand human speech.

That’s because brain science is an area limited to the human brain. Therefore, upgrading the brains of bioweapons to a level similar to that of humans is nearly impossible, even with today’s technology.

To begin with, creating a new brain for any living thing, even a simple insect-level brain, is a complex task.

If we want to imitate human genetic characteristics to give them smart brains, they become ‘artificial humans’ rather than bioweapons.

Rather than using such a human body as the basis for a weapon, it is much more rational to use genetically engineered soldiers, well-trained soldiers, or AI weapons.

Nevertheless, bioweapons have clear destructive power as weapons.

They can heal their wounds, they have no guilt or fear, they can instill fear in their enemies, and they are immune to electromagnetic and cyberattacks.

More than anything, the biggest advantage of operating bioweapons is that they can multiply on their own on the battlefield, given the available resources.

🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸

A16C large-scale experimental room.

A space that can only be entered after passing through five layers of heavily isolated airlocks.

Thirty model buildings form a village in the center of a wasteland. The wide walls surrounding the space are all lifelike screens that depict the horizon of the wasteland. The vast ceiling has also transformed into a blue sky of a terraformed planet, with fake clouds drifting by.

An artificial wind blows gently, and grains of sand hit my trouser legs.

“Experimental Subject 412. Ready.”

As soon as I say that, a human voice echoes throughout the space.

━𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞.

𝘉𝘖𝘖𝘔!!!

The scenery changes rapidly.

Explosions erupt in the village, sending up acrid smoke and flames. The once serene and blue sky darkens slightly, and small flashes of light can be seen clashing beyond the clouds.

Is a fleet battle taking place in low orbit at the same time?

━𝐀 𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢-𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐞.

I look around again. I drastically expand and divide the photoreceptor cells in my eyes. I use these mutated eyes as a substitute for a high-resolution telescope.

First of all, the village is completely occupied by the enemy forces. Since they’ve gone so far as to blow it up from the start, I don’t have to worry about hostages, civilians, or prisoners.

Judging from the color of the sky, the temperature, the composition of the atmosphere entering my respiratory system, and the gravity I feel, the terraforming is complete.

However, the current environment is a wasteland. There are no usable corpses, plants, or animals.

In a wasteland with an extreme shortage of organic matter, I need to conserve the resources I can use in battle.

Moreover, I can only use one invulnerability.

In other words, this training exercise has a very high difficulty level. I won’t be able to receive enough bioweapon hordes under my command, and there’s no organic matter in the vicinity for me to multiply the hordes.

The enemy forces consist of a squad of humanoids and a multi-legged tank.

Considering that a fleet battle is taking place overhead and that friendly ships might be able to directly deploy invulnerability, the possibility that the enemy forces’ intelligence is a trap is low. That’s because the friendly fleet can see everything from the sky.

“I request two assault-type entities and one defense-type entity.”

━𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲. 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬.

“That’s fine. Send them.”

Immediately after I make that request, I see an image of a ball of fire descending from the fake sky above my head.

A section of the ceiling opens up, and a pre-prepared invulnerability drops down in front of me.

𝘚𝘪𝘻𝘻𝘭𝘦! 𝘛𝘩𝘶𝘥!

𝘉𝘈𝘕𝘎!

The lid of the invulnerability pops off. Inside, there are three bioweapons covered in blood.

All three of them are dead. It seems that the setting is that they died instantly from the impact of falling to the ground without safety devices.

I approach the invulnerability without hesitation and reach out to the dead ones.

‘𝘞𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘶𝘱.’

The command, transmitted as waves in my head, stimulates the dead brains of the creatures.

The skin of the dead creatures touches my fingertips. The cells that make up their bodies come under my control. I reconnect their severed blood vessels and bones and inject life force into them by transfusing what’s in my body.

In this way, I revive two assault-type bioweapons.

𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘭. . . 𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘭. . .

The two revived creatures crawl out of the invulnerability and meet my eyes.

‘𝘐 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦.’

𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘭. . .!

The two creatures I revived look up at me with their three pairs of black eyes that have no eyelids. They are not creatures that I created, but bioweapons that share my genetic material as their ancestor.

That’s why these creatures are loyal to me. Just as I obey my mother.

‘𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳.’

The creatures don’t understand human language, but they understand my will and intentions.

That’s because there is a wave between me and the creatures that cannot be interpreted by any modern technology. This is the very purpose for which the Darwin Foundation is cultivating experimental subjects like me.

‘𝘎𝘰 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘷𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘦. 𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘪𝘥𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪-𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘬.’

𝘛𝘩𝘶𝘥! 𝘛𝘩𝘶𝘥!

The two assault-type bioweapons rush toward the village as soon as they hear my command.

🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸

The humanoid squad that has captured the village detects the two assault-type bioweapons approaching them.

“Hostile lifeform detected.”

The twelve humanoids in the squad aim their automatic weapons at the two bioweapons.

𝘉𝘖𝘖𝘔 𝘉𝘖𝘖𝘔 𝘉𝘖𝘖𝘔!!!

As their mechanical fingers pull the triggers, the muzzles of the guns spit fire in succession. Tungsten-jacketed depleted uranium rounds, propelled by gunpowder and coils, streak across the battlefield at supersonic speeds, boasting a firepower of 1600 rounds per minute.

𝘉𝘖𝘖𝘔 𝘉𝘖𝘖𝘔 𝘉𝘈𝘕𝘎!!!

The two assault-type bioweapons are riddled with holes in an instant. And a beat later, the air around them is pierced by a scream.

At that moment, a tiny shadow falls over the heads of the humanoid squad.

The humanoids, who had their muzzles pointed in one direction, each raise their heads to look at the sky.

It was too late.

𝘛𝘏𝘜𝘋!

Experimental Subject 412 lands precisely between the humanoids. The black armor that he mutates from his skin during combat seems to be thicker than usual.

At the sudden appearance of Subject 412, the humanoid squad hastily turns their muzzles. However, before their muzzles can even aim at him, the destruction begins.

𝘚𝘩𝘩𝘩𝘩𝘦𝘦𝘦𝘦𝘴𝘩. . .

He has mutated both of his hands into very long blades. He obtained the material for the blades from the exoskeleton of a dead defense-type bioweapon.

“Hostile lifeform. . .”

𝘚𝘞𝘐𝘚𝘏!!

Subject 412 swings the blades in his hands wide horizontally. It was a cutter close to being monomolecular, and the upper and lower bodies of the two humanoids it hit were instantly separated.

The remaining ten humanoids belatedly pull the triggers of their automatic weapons.

𝘉𝘖𝘖𝘔 𝘉𝘖𝘖𝘔 𝘉𝘈𝘕𝘎!!

Subject 412 lowers his stance and plows through the humanoid squad. He severs the humanoids’ legs or stabs them with his blades. He pierces them from the upper body to the head, creating a vertical gash.

𝘉𝘈𝘕𝘎!

A few depleted uranium rounds hit his thigh, but

𝘡𝘻𝘻𝘻𝘵. . .

His black armor instantly heals the bullet wounds.

𝘚𝘞𝘐𝘚𝘏! 𝘚𝘞𝘐𝘚𝘏! 𝘚𝘞𝘐𝘚𝘏!

He moves among the humanoid squad at a speed that no ordinary human can achieve. Despite the AI’s precise targeting, he evades more than half of the depleted uranium rounds. He even shows impromptu responses, such as using humanoids as shields or throwing them. It’s like he’s butchering machines.

In the end, the last humanoid barely manages to distance itself, but

𝘚𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘢𝘢𝘵. . .

He simply fires the blade on his right arm, piercing the humanoid’s chest in one blow.

🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸

I received a score of 95 in the previous simulated battle. The Darwin Foundation gave a reason for the 5 points that were deducted, but it sounded like an excuse to me.

The Foundation simply wanted to see me fight in person before the preliminary selection.

According to the rumors that my secretary has heard, the project leaders have yet to fully assess my individual combat ability.

They say that I have high potential, but that my actual performance has been lacking.

Anyway, this time I intend to show them what they want and get a high score. I don’t like being in the limelight, but since this is the final evaluation, I want to secure the top spot.

𝘊𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘭𝘦. . . 𝘚𝘪𝘻𝘻𝘭𝘦. . .

Was it a flashy move to fire the blade at that last humanoid?

𝘊𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘭𝘦.

I reattach the blade I fired to my right arm. Then I press down on the fallen humanoid with my foot and pull my right arm. The blade that was stuck in the machine’s body is pulled out.

The material that made up the blade enters my right arm and is absorbed into my body. Then, a hand grows from the lower part of my arm, where the blade was, and fingers sprout.

For now, I have a blade on my left arm and a hand on my right arm.

And while I’m at it, I should analyze the material composition of the defense-type bioweapon’s exoskeleton. After the training is over and I go to the decontamination room, all the materials I’ve obtained will be taken away from me.

If I can synthesize this kind of hard material from my own body without having to procure it like this every time, it will be very useful in the preliminary selection.

For that reason, I need to make the most of this training opportunity to complete the material analysis.

🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸

𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨!

A multi-legged tank, moving on its four legs, clings to the wall of a building like a spider and turns its gun barrel.

The tactical camera view of the multi-legged tank clearly captures Experimental Subject 412.

Several researchers are watching the tactical camera view in real time.

“It’s an armor-piercing round with the best physical penetration, although its velocity is slow compared to energy weapons. It’s usually used on medium-sized or larger aircraft or ships. . . We’ve specially equipped it to pierce Subject 412’s armor.”

“The significance of that one shot is great. I’m looking forward to seeing how Subject 412 will respond. I also wonder how much damage he will suffer if he gets hit by the armor-piercing round.”

“Subject 412 is ranked first in all categories of cellular control, legion dominance, creativity, memory, and comprehension among the five experimental subjects. I don’t think his individual combat ability is weak, though.”

“Subject 412 is probably the best in individual combat ability as well. He’s a typical strategist and ruler, but he’s definitely also the kind of guy who knows how to fight.”

“I heard that he hid the materials he obtained from the training ground in his body last time and got caught. Why did he do that?”

“I heard that he was trying to analyze them so that he could directly synthesize the materials that he can’t synthesize himself.”

“How splendid.”

“When it comes to the experimental subjects of this project, splendid is synonymous with dangerous.”

At that moment, the tactical camera view of the multi-legged tank and the gaze of Subject 412 meet.

“He saw the tank. Let’s see how he deals with it.”

“Here we go.”

🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸

I could hear the sound of heavy mechanical joints moving from a great distance. It’s the kind of distance that I would never be able to hear without enhanced hearing.

One of the multi-legged tanks that was with the humanoid squad was clinging to the wall of the building over there. It was about 200 meters away, by my estimation.

But if it had taken such a high position and even pointed its gun barrel at me, why didn’t it shoot already?

Why was it holding back?

Here it comes.

The gun barrel spewed fire.

I saw fire with my eyes, which means that this is not a weapon that uses sublight speed in this atmosphere. If it were, the air itself would plasmafy and a thermonuclear fusion explosion would occur, blowing up the entire facility.

𝘉𝘖𝘖𝘔. . .

I heard a sound. It’s a dull roar. In that case, it’s not an energy weapon but a physical weapon.

A shell or metal projectile is flying toward me. But the thing that was fired from over there hasn’t hit my body yet. I heard the sound, though.

Therefore, that’s not a weapon that’s faster than the speed of sound. That’s the extent of its power.

In that case, I don’t need to dodge it.

Of course, I could dodge it, but I want to show off my individual combat ability to the humans who are watching this simulated battle.

0.9 seconds after making my decision.

I quickly extend my right hand.

From the gun barrel of the multi-legged tank that I can see far away, I draw an imaginary line. The imaginary line passes through my right palm and shoulder.

I stand on two legs and spread my palm out exactly in that direction.

I concentrate the exoskeleton material in my body to the extreme in my palm and compress it. And I temporarily liquefy the layer of skin underneath the black armor that surrounds my body.

Soon, at 1.1 seconds, I feel a heavy mass collide with my palm.

𝘉𝘖𝘖𝘔. . .

The roar deafens my eardrums, and the shockwave vibrates my entire body. The surrounding dirt and dust fly away with the air, sending a hazy plume of smoke in the direction behind me.

The metal that collided with my palm falls limply to the ground. It seems to be a pure armor-piercing round, not an explosive shell.

Amidst the commotion of the surrounding objects, I blocked the multi-legged tank’s attack with one hand.

My current appearance, standing upright on two legs, will serve as an indicator of my individual combat ability.

I then redistribute the material in my body that I had prepared for the armor-piercing round in 0.5 seconds and kick off the ground, dashing forward.

𝘉𝘖𝘖𝘔. . . 𝘉𝘖𝘖𝘔. . .

The multi-legged tank fires several more armor-piercing rounds in an attempt to block my approach. Each time, I dodge them by changing the direction I’m running in to match the gun barrel of the multi-legged tank.

𝘛𝘏𝘜𝘋!

I step on the window sills of a building like stairs and climb up.

𝘚𝘞𝘐𝘚𝘏!

I slice off the multi-legged tank’s quadrupedal walking mechanism. The multi-legged tank immediately falls to the ground, and I land on the fallen multi-legged tank and slice the long gun barrel into five pieces again.

━𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞.

Since I’ve taken care of the humanoid squad and the multi-legged tank, it’s over.

I thought there would be more variables prepared by them since this was the last training session before the preliminary selection.

━𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞. 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫.

“I understand.”

The chimeraz project is the last generation of the five experimental subjects.

So my mother must be out of her pregnant state by now.

A human woman gets pregnant with one child and goes through all sorts of hardships, but my mother, who has given birth to 500 children, including me, must have had an incredibly hard time.

Maybe that’s why my mother always got irritated with me whenever she saw me and ignored what I said. Honestly, I’ve met my mother many times, but I’ve never had a proper conversation with her even once.

I thought my mother’s attitude was natural. Pregnancy is a terribly painful thing. Especially since she gave birth to 500 children without a break.

“Can I go see her now?”

━𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲. 𝐇𝐞’𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦.

My secretary is supposed to be a very capable person. I guess he’s finally showing me his competence.

I hope he’ll keep doing this even after we go out into society together.

“How long can I stay with my mother?”

━𝐖𝐞’𝐥𝐥 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝟐𝟎 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬.

Maybe I can expect a slightly different attitude from my mother this time. Since she’s done with her pregnancy.

This is the last time I’ll see my mother, and it’s the last time she’ll see her child. Of course, we might be reunited once the chimeraz project is complete, but who knows when that will be.

━𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐝, 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝟒𝟏𝟐.

“Yes.”

Chimeraz trust and follow the being that created them. I, too, as a chimeraz, follow my mother, who passed on her genetic material to me.

━𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐠𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥, 𝐬𝐨 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐬.

I honestly want to receive my mother’s encouragement before the preliminary selection.
