From the first floor of the temple, Oswald narrowly managed to take care of all the Plague Paladins while fighting intensely. Hearing the commotion, zombies gathered outside the temple. . . but the tightly shut door held strong.

Oswald took out a vial of holy water and gulped it down. He was thirsty, but. . . because he was in a place filled with the plague, he started showing symptoms of various infectious diseases as he inhaled the plague with every breath.

He was wearing the Phoenix’s Bracelet that could resist illnesses. . . but it seemed insufficient to alleviate the symptoms right away.

“ Now, on to the 1st basement floor. . . . . . . ”

The cursed Plague Grimoire was on the 5th basement floor. That meant there were four more obstacles to overcome.

He went down the stairs located in the corner of the temple and found himself in a situation where he couldn’t see an inch in front of him due to the darkness that filled the lower floors. He had purchased a head lantern imbued with light magic in preparation for times like this. It was a lantern worth 1 gold, and it could use light magic by replacing the magic stone.

“ Light.”

As he chanted the activation word, the head lantern emitted a white light and instantly illuminated the entire area. At that, beings that hated light rushed in while shrieking, and Oswald shot them down without hesitation.

“ Specters?”

Undead monsters of the ghost species. They were a type of undead that couldn’t even be approached unless one used blessed silver bullets, magic, or mana or divine power. In short, they were undead monsters that ordinary people would just die upon meeting. They were the type of undead monsters that made one contemplate life.

More Specters continued to appear. Creatures that sprang out from the walls, the floor, and even the ceiling charged at Oswald indiscriminately.

Oswald took out holy water from his magic backpack and opened the lid, sprinkling the holy water in all directions. As the holy water cut through the air and soon touched the bodies of the specters, pure white flames blazed up and burned them.

Kee-ahhhhhhh!

The specters let out earsplitting screams as they emitted a strange light, and Oswald was momentarily afflicted with an abnormal status curse because of it.

For a moment, he experienced hallucinations and felt as if his mind was fading. . . but soon, a crimson aura emanated from the Phoenix’s Bracelet and repelled the curse that had been cast on Oswald.

Oswald, freed from the curse, pulled himself together through composure and fired bullets at the specters whose flames were gradually dying down. Several specters were pierced by a single shot, and pure white flames blazed up again, and the specters that had been clumped together eventually all disappeared.

“That was a close one. . . . . . . .”

If he hadn’t had the Phoenix’s Bracelet. . . he probably wouldn’t have been able to overcome the specter’s curse and would have been eaten by them on the spot.

The Phoenix’s Bracelet had resisted the curse. . . but remnants of the curse still lingered. Oswald took another sip of holy water to get rid of the remaining traces of the curse and got up from his seat. 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 1𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘳, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦. . . . . . .

Oswald suppressed his weary mind and began to move forward again. Fortunately, perhaps because he had taken care of several at once with a single shot earlier, there weren’t that many specters appearing in between.

Clop, clop, clop!

“ Phantom Knight?”

The sudden sound of horse hooves. There was no way there would be a mounted soldier indoors, so there was only one possibility left. Oswald, who already knew well what monsters appeared in the Plague Chaos Dungeon, could immediately tell that the owner of the horse hooves was a Phantom Knight.

A spectral horseman, the Phantom Knight. A being that wielded a giant broadsword. If one were to be cut by the being’s broadsword, their soul would be injured, and their lifespan would decrease. So. . . he had to take the being out in one shot.

Oswald hurriedly rummaged through his magic backpack to take out an Explosion magic bullet and loaded it. He immediately raised the muzzle and aimed it in the direction from which the sound of horse hooves was coming.

“ Whew. . . . . . . ”

After waiting for a long time while regulating his breathing, the Phantom Knight finally appeared, and Oswald waited for the right moment according to the advice of his senses before pulling the trigger.

𝐓𝐚-𝐚𝐧𝐠! 𝐖𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐡!

As he pulled the trigger, a crimson magic circle was created from the muzzle, and the magic bullet passed through the magic circle and turned into flames.

The flames that flew at a fast speed soon struck the broadsword that the Phantom Knight was wielding, and with a 𝐊𝐰𝐚-𝐚𝐧𝐠! sound, crimson flames engulfed the Phantom Knight.

𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠! 𝐓𝐚-𝐚𝐧𝐠!

His senses soon warned him that the enemy was not dead yet, and trusting his instincts, Oswald continuously fired blessed silver bullets and attacked the Phantom Knight.

After a while, the flames subsided. . . and he could see the Phantom Knight, who had gotten off the ghost horse, reduced to rags.

“As I thought, it wouldn’t die this easily?”

This time, he loaded silver bullets. Then, he waited for the being to approach him and fired silver bullets right before its nose.

𝐓𝐚-𝐚𝐧𝐠! 𝐖𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐡!

Pure white flames blazed up from the being’s body that had been hit by the silver bullets, and Oswald poured holy water on it as if adding fuel to the fire, making it burn even more fiercely.

𝐊𝐞𝐞-𝐚𝐡𝐡𝐡𝐡𝐡𝐡𝐡!

At that moment, specters that had appeared behind his back let out earsplitting screams once again and inflicted a psychic curse on Oswald.

“ Ugh. . . . . . . ”

However, perhaps because it was an attack he had experienced once, his psychic level 10 resisted to some extent, and he seized the opportunity to aim and take care of the specters.

Bang! Bang!

After the specters were taken care of, he fired two more silver bullets into the Phantom Knight who was still alive and screaming, and the Phantom Knight was finally forced to collapse.

After taking down the Phantom Knight, he continued to push through the darkness and was finally able to find the stairs leading down to the 2nd basement floor.

“ Ha, damn. . . . . . . That was freaking tiring. . . . . . . ”
