Chapter 5: I Don’t Know How To Rest

I’ve been in the neighboring country for a week.

” … I’m tired.”

I collapsed into my room’s bed.

I haven’t had any free time in a few days.

I knew it was coming, but every day was jam-packed with formalities, greetings, and wedding festivities.

My days have been just as hectic, if not more so, than when I worked at the courthouse.

I had no idea it was so difficult to act like a royal wife, not just a job.

“You think so?”

“Y-Your Highness!”

I got up in a hurry.

I’ve been seen in a vulnerable position.

“Don’t worry about it; this is your room, and you can do whatever you want.”

“Y-Yes…”

Then don’t come in here without my permission, but…

“Can I decide that?”

“Of course, you’re my wife now, and the decision is yours to make.”

I can choose whether or not to accept the job.

“I accept. I’m sorry for not doing anything.”

“I knew you’d say that; you’re a serious woman; just don’t overdo it.”

He then exited the room, handing me a piece of paper with the request written on it.

His Highness, on the other hand, will remain busy.

There will apparently be another meeting.

“Well… the request is quite a lot.”

But it’s all doable in a single day, so there’s still time.

It’s not too bad when compared to the amount of work required by the court.

Beginning tomorrow…

“Well, I’ll begin today.”

I don’t have anything planned after this anyway.

His Highness is working hard, but I feel bad that I am the only one who is taking a break.

The next day,

I paid His Highness a visit in his office around noon.

to provide him with a report.

“May I enter, Your Highness?”

“I just wanted to let you know that I finished the work you assigned to me yesterday.”

“…It’s already finished?”

I was afraid he’d think I was lying, so I quickly said,

“Everything is finished. It’s currently in storage. Would you like to see it? “

“No, it’s fine. I don’t think you’re lying, but… Isn’t it a little early? The minister told me that it would be completed before the expedition in ten days.”

“I see. But it’s a lot less than when I was in court.”

“I see… I thank you for your hard work.”

“Thank you very much. So, what should I do now?”

It was a spontaneous remark.

Now that I’ve completed one task, I’m going to jump right into the next.

“You’ve done ten days’ work; please take the next nine days off.”

When he said that, he got up and walked over to me.

“You were working in a challenging environment. More than I thought…”

“I’m sorry… I’ve never taken a true day off before, so I’m at a loss for what to do…”

“I don’t mind a hard worker. Work hard and get plenty of rest. And take care of yourself, okay?”

“…Yes.”

He softly whispers and places his hand on my cheek.

I’ve never had someone to care for me before, and I don’t know how to react.

It just made me feel warm on the inside…

My heart is pounding loudly.

It’s a political marriage, and the only thing binding us together are our mutual interests.

I’m pretty sure it was.

That night, Prince Rayne notified the minister that his request had been fulfilled.

“How did she do so much in one day?!”

“Yes, I heard she did a lot more work over there all by herself.”

“I still can’t believe it. I honestly expected her to refuse that amount for ten days. According to my understanding, it would take a dozen good grantmakers to complete…”

“Is that so? She appeared to be up to the task.”

He told the minister that she immediately asked for the next job.

The minister is even more taken aback.

“Wow, that’s a lot of speed… But, is she all right? The grantmaking technique has the disadvantage of having short-term effects. We set a ten-day deadline, assuming that the work would be concentrated in the back.”

“Hmm? She said it’ll last two months and that she’s also given another grant, so you can look into it later.”

“…Y-Yeah, that’s difficult to believe… If that’s the case, Your Highness, you’ve chosen an extraordinary woman.”

Rayne calmly analyzed, seeing the minister’s surprise.

Phyllis may have deviated from the public’s perception of a grantmaker.

The fact that she could endure the harsh conditions of the court only meant that she was able to do so.

“Your Highness?”

“No, I’m sorry, I’m just imagining it and it makes me laugh.”

“Certainly.. They’re probably in mourning right now.”
