Albero and his group headed to Ridelle’s room.

As they walked, they noticed the building seemed like a student dormitory. It was clearly segregated by gender, but movement between rooms was unrestricted.

Despite romantic and intimate relationships between slaves being forbidden, the security seemed lax.

In front of Ridelle’s room, Albero spoke.

“Um, it’s a girl’s room. . . . . .Is it okay for me to enter?”

“You were the one leading the way just now.”

“Uh. . . . . .Lapis, please help.”

“Leave it to me! . . . . . .Here we go.”

Lapis knocked on the door. . . . . .There was no response.

She knocked again. . . . . .Still no answer. She knocked and knocked again. . . . . .No reaction.

“Seems like no one’s there.”

“That’s odd. . . . . .”

“Hmm. . . . . .Excuse me for a moment, and. . . . . .Oh!”

When Ashe opened the door slightly and looked inside, there was a red-haired girl crouched on the bed.

She didn’t move at all, as if she were a figurine. Ashe lightly knocked on the door.

“Um, coming in. . . . . .Excuse us.”

“Pardon our intrusion.”

“. . . . . .Excuse us.”

Albero was the last to enter and closed the door behind him.

Ridelle did not react at all even when Albero and the others entered.

Slowly, she turned her face towards them.

“. . . . . . . . . . . .”

An extended silence.

There was a scent of shampoo, perhaps she had taken a shower. She wore a dress with a wine-red hue similar to what Ashe and the others wore. Her long red hair waved and was tied in a ponytail.

She was exceptionally beautiful. However, her cloudy eyes marred her beauty.

Determinedly, Albero asked.

“I heard about you from that slave trader. . . . . .I’m sorry for what you went through.”

“. . . . . . . . . . . .”

“You’ve lost everything, haven’t you?”

“. . . . . . . . . . . .”

Ridelle, with a sluggish movement of her head, looked at Albero.

Her eyes were murky, as if they were submerged in mud.

“I heard your Summoned beast protected you. Same as me. I was near death once, but my Summoned beast saved me and became my new right arm.”

“. . . . . .i.”

“What?”

Ridelle moved her lips slightly, murmuring something.

Ashe and Lapis exchanged glances and moved a little closer.

Albero too approached Ridelle, ensuring not to miss her subtle changes, and listened.

“━━want to die.”

A single tear fell from Ridelle’s eyes.

◇◇◇◇◇◇

“And then━━”

Kid, alone, returned to 『Demon Hubris’s Paradise』.

Jumping over the golden walls was a piece of cake for someone with a Parasitic type Summoned beast.

Kid had already discarded the slave trader’s clothes and was now wearing the Asgard Summoning Academy uniform. This uniform had slash-resistant properties and a certain level of shock absorption, making it suitable for combat.

Upon reaching the B-class and above, students could even get custom-made suits. However, for the newly established S-class, this uniform was the best they had.

Crouched atop the wall, Kid observed Hubris’s paradise.

“There are more than ten palaces, tons of soldiers. . . . . .and a lot of slaves. Though, for slaves, they seem to wear pretty good clothes. And. . . . . .what’s this? Are those slaves. . . . . .having fun?”

In the palace courtyard visible from where Kid was, young boys resembling slaves played, kicking a ball.

Not only that. In a gazebo in the palace garden, young girls chatted while sipping tea.

Despite the peaceful scene, Kid felt an eerie unease.

“. . . . . .Such a strangely out-of-place scene for a rural area. . . . . .it’s distorted.”

Expressing his boredom, Kid slowly moved along the top of the wall.

He fixed his gaze on one of the palaces visible from the wall.

“. . . . . .The center of paradise. That place looks suspicious.”

In the center of Hubris’s paradise stood a massive palace.

Describing it as a “golden dome” might be apt. While other palaces appeared to be dwellings, only this central dome lacked windows and had just one entrance.

“. . . . . .That’s the place. Alright, 『let’s go』.”

As Kid muttered, the space next to him distorted.

And as that distorted space disappeared, Arnaud appeared.

“That’s a handy ability. 『Spatial Leap』, right?”

“Yes. It’s the power of my Summoned beast 『Fragarach』. However, I can leap up to 500 meters, and I must be familiar with the terrain. I can’t use it in places like the inside of a building unless I have that information.”

“Isn’t that a sword? If you 『leap』 right behind during a duel, you’d win instantly. Or interrupt a one-on-one fight.”

“I am a knight. I wouldn’t use it that way.”

“So rigid. . . . . .Anyway, that dome over there looks suspicious, let’s go.”

“Understood.”

Kid and Arnaud chose a spot where no guards were watching and jumped down.

The wall was tall, but Arnaud landed without hesitation.

“Impressive.”

“Captain Damocles has trained me. Not just the Summoned beast, but I myself am the true weapon.”

“Sounds like that old man. Anyway. . . . . .Hey, don’t get caught.”

“Don’t worry. I’ve also undergone scout training. I was the best among my peers.”

“You seem better suited as an assassin, no?”

The two hid in the shadows of trees, waiting to dodge a patrolling soldier. However, the soldier was cautious and didn’t leave.

Kid transformed his left arm into a gun.

“Hey, what are you doing?”

“Just watch.”

Kid fired the gun into a bush on the opposite side of where the soldier stood.

The bush rustled, and the soldier, drawing his sword, stared intently at the bush. . . . . .slowly approaching it.

“Let’s go.”

“Yeah. Well done.”

“Heh, thanks.”

Seizing that moment, Kid and Arnaud silently made their way to the dome.
