In the depth of night, when all are sound asleep, I find myself alone, battling with my sleeplessness.

Various issues swirl around in my mind.

The mystery surrounding Irma’s death, Lord Montyver, whose life is under threat, the discord between the queen and the concubine, the issue of the stolen necklace of destiny――

All these matters remained unresolved, with only partial information being gathered about them.

More than that, I found myself tangled up in social issues, which was strange considering I was supposed to be living a quiet life in Binemöer.

I was at a complete loss as to how I ended up in such a situation.

Perhaps tranquility is something that’s never meant to be a part of my life.

The one thing I feel good about is Florenci.

He received high-level education at the Marquis house and is living a carefree life.

It seems like he’s having a lot of fun, which is all I could ask for.

Lately, he’s been growing taller and there were moments when he looked a little more mature.

This is a side of Florenci I wouldn’t have seen before the time rewind, a healthy growth that’s truly uplifting.

I only hope that he continues to grow healthily, surrounded by the adults who love him.

That’s all I wish for.

While it’s true that there’s a pile of problems to deal with, our present situation is much more fortunate than before the time rewind.

All I hope for now is to solve at least one problem.

Just as I started to drift off to sleep, I heard the sound of knocking on the door.

“Mrs. Dosa, may I have a moment?”

The sound of Annie’s voice startled me awake. It seemed I was in a state of shallow sleep, somewhere between wakefulness and sleep.

I wonder what she needs at this hour.

As I threw on a shawl over my nightdress, Ga-chan jumped onto my shoulder.

“Did you wake up too, Ga-chan?”

It appeared that Florenci was still sound asleep, which was a relief.

In a quiet voice, so as not to wake him, I responded.

“What can I do for you?”

“We have visitors.”

I couldn’t believe my ears. When I asked again, Annie clearly stated that there were visitors asking for me.

“Who would visit at this hour?”

Annie mentioned an unexpected name.

“The visitors asking for Mrs. Dosa are Karina・Von・Glaunorn-sama and her son, Leonardo-sama.”

I stifled a gasp, pressing my hand against my forehead.

For some reason, the royal concubine Karina and her son, Prince Leonardo, had come together.

Moreover, they had appeared without any guards or maidservants, just the two of them.

“I have guided them to the guest room as it’s cold outside.”

Why would the royal concubine come to the Marquis house at such an hour?

Moreover, she wanted to meet not the Marchioness but me.

This is not someone I can handle on my own. Even though it’s late at night, I’ll have to have the Marchioness present as well.

There’s no time to change clothes. Still in my nightdress, I head for the Marchioness’ room.

I knocked on the bedroom door, went in, and woke the Marchioness.

“Marchioness, I’m sorry to disturb you. Do you have a moment?”

“. . . . . .What is it?”

The Marchioness woke up right away. I thought she’d be angry, but she replied with a gentle voice.

“Actually, the royal concubine Karina and Prince Leonardo have come to visit me just now. They came alone, without any guards or maidservants.”

Despite the late hour, the Marchioness opened her eyes wide and exclaimed in a clear voice.

“There must be some emergency. Let’s go hear what they have to say, Lara.”

“Y, Yes.”

With brisk movements, the Marchioness got up and, taking my arm, led me to the guest room.

In the guest room were the royal concubine, cloaked in black with a hood deeply drawn, and Prince Leonardo.

This was my first meeting with Prince Leonardo, but he looked just like the royal concubine.

As soon as the royal concubine saw me and the Marchioness, she sprang up as if jolted and rushed towards us.

With a fluid motion, she crouched down, touching her forehead to the floor.

“Help us!!”

It was a plea that resembled a scream.

Following her, Prince Leonardo also knelt down, bowing his head.

“What on earth has happened to you two?”

The royal concubine pleaded through her tears.

“If things continue like this, the Queen will kill us!!”

“What did you say?!”

For now, it would be best to calm down.

Gently rubbing the back of the crouching royal concubine, I urged her to sit on the long chair.

Prince Leonardo understood my intention with just a glance.

“Mother, please sit down.”

“Y, Yes.”

The royal concubine was pale as a sheet, trembling all over.

She probably couldn’t speak in this condition.

I ordered Annie to prepare hot milk with a drop of honey.

Although it was spring, the nights were still chilly. I lit the fireplace to warm the room.

As the concubine had calmed down a bit after drinking the hot milk, the Marchioness asked her about the matter.

“So, what happened?”

Before answering, the royal concubine took out an object wrapped in black cloth from the table.

“What exactly is this?”

“I, I want you to see what’s inside.”

Tilting her head, the Marchioness took the object wrapped in black cloth into her hands.

Inside was a beautiful necklace.

This overly familiar object was the Queen’s necklace, which had been stolen recently.
