Chapter 46: New Incident
Not long after that, one day after school, I noticed there was a letter in my shoe locker.
“Oh? What’s this?”
It was just a scrap of paper that wasn’t even inside an envelope. When I opened it, I was greeted with a string of characters that were difficult to read.
This person’s handwriting is really bad. No, it’s not so much that it’s bad as it is not careful. It takes some courage to give me a letter with such shaky handwriting.
No, wait a minute…
“This isn’t addressed to me!”
I didn’t notice it before because it was messy, but the name on it was wrong. And then there was the contents.
——You’re as lovely as a flower blooming in the wild.
It’s obvious that it’s not about me.
It seems like the sender of this letter made a mistake about where to put their love letter. Honestly, how could someone mess up something this important?
“I have nothing to do with this, so I can just leave it alone.”
For now, I put it back in my shoe locker and started walking back to the dormitory.
“… Aah, geez!”
With a loud stomp of my foot, I turned on my heel. Sanna and a few other young ladies who seemed to have followed me visibly flinched.
“I have a little something to take care of, so please go ahead without me.”
“Y-Yes.”
“Ah, before you go, there’s something I want to ask you.”
Sanna widened her brown eyes and tilted her head slightly.
The next day, I went alone to the classroom where the author of the letter I had deciphered with Sanna’s help was said to be.
The male student was a year older than me, tall and lanky with relatively handsome features, but his nervous energy and lack of confidence detracted from it all.
The old me would have been impatient and yelling by now.
“U-Um, is there something you need…?”
He must have heard about my reputation. His face was pale and he was shaking. To him, I must have seemed like a sudden, unexplained visitor to his classroom, making him tremble with fear.
“Owen-san, you really messed up by putting your love letter in the wrong place.”
“Huh…?”
“I’m telling you, you’re wrong. It was in my shoe cabinet yesterday.”
I took a crumpled piece of paper from my skirt pocket and shoved it at him. His already guilty expression turned even paler.
“T-That’s…!”
“Lady Creaket’s shoe cabinet is right next to mine.”
“That can’t be…”
In the next moment, he fell to his knees, hanging his head in despair. It seems like he’s the type to wear his emotions on his sleeve.
“Well, better luck next time. Don’t forget to double-check.”
As I looked at him, his eyes filled with tears and on the verge of crying, I felt a surge of anger within me.
Isaac Owen is truly the type of person I dislike.
“Why did you bother delivering it to me? Are you trying to blackmail me…?”
“What do I gain from blackmailing you?”
“W-Well, Quatra-sama has a hobby of possessing his own ‘toys’.”
Well, I can’t deny he’s not wrong. Though being referred to as a ‘toy’ is a bit irritating.
“Certainly, I had thought about putting this letter back into Creaket-san’s shoe locker.”
I sat down on the ground and leaned my face close to Owen-san, who was looking up at me.
“It’s too much! A love letter like this will only end up shattered!”
As I spoke loudly, a tear finally fell from his eyes.
