“Buhyiiii?!”

Cut down by the mithril sword held by the Automata, a bipedal pig-like monster, an orc, meets its end screaming in agony.

The current location is within a forest, a short walk from the town of Barom.

It was quite a distance from the town, so I stayed overnight in the village where I had received the request, and entered the forest in the morning.

And there, the Automata was confronted by more than 20 orcs.

“Buhyiiii!”

“Buhyiiiiii!”

“Buhyiiiiiiiii!”

Perhaps angered by the death of their companion, the orcs all pounced at once.

However, even from the Automata’s perspective, it’s not a significant threat.

The average status of the orcs is at most around 200.

Unlike goblins, there are no higher-ranking species leading the group.

Without even needing reinforcements from the dungeon, the Automata could easily annihilate them.

“《Wind Cutter》!”

“Buhyiiii?!”

In addition, Leif’s wind magic support fire attacks the orcs.

Leif had never used it for battle before, but if he uses the status boosted by the fairly high-end equipment, he can handle orcs.

The wind blades created by the magic slit the orc’s neck, and a bright red fountain gushes from the cut surface, causing the orc to die.

A small amount of DP and experience points came in.

After that, it’s just a process of slaughtering all the orcs.

Those who run are killed after their legs are cut, and those who come are killed by cutting their heads.

A few minutes later, only countless butchered pig corpses are left around.

This is the work of an adventurer.

It’s easy.

At most, it was just a bit of practice for operating the Automata.

If you can make a living with this kind of work, don’t bother coming into my sanctuary, adventurers.

While feeling this unjustifiable discomfort, I go around cutting and collecting the noses of the orcs, the proof of subjugation.

In monster subjugation requests, it seems that you prove that you have subjugated them by submitting specific parts to the guild.

I heard it from Leif.

By the way, it was Leif who searched the forest and located the orcs.

Perhaps it’s because he’s a former professional.

In being an adventurer, Leif has been surprisingly helpful.

For now, I pet him to show my appreciation.

“Huh?!”

“Good job. You did well.”

“T, Thank you!”

Leif blushes happily.

I want to protect this smile.

Even if it’s a joke, I’ll stop showing Leif the scene of a massacre in the future.

It’s better to have a high affection level with your pet.

Thinking such things, I continue the work of collecting the orc snouts.

According to Leif, orc meat is famous as a considerable delicacy, and if you dismantle and sell it, you can get a decent price, but it’s a hassle so I won’t.

I’m not short of money now, having looted several towns and villages.

Instead, I recycled the orc corpses.

Even though they were weak, they were monsters, so they were worth a decent amount of DP.

To be specific, about 10 average people per orc.

So, with 20 orcs, that means it’s equivalent to about 200 average people.

Frankly, it’s more profitable than wiping out a small village.

What should I do?

The work of an adventurer brings in more than I thought.

If the day comes when I can leave the demon lord’s army amicably, it might be worth working as an adventurer on the side in my spare time.

While I was thinking about the distant future, suddenly, an arrow was shot towards the Automata.

“Master?!”

“It’s okay.”

Thanks to my Arithmetic Ability skill, my mind has been working quite fast lately, and I calmly cut down the arrow with the mithril sword.

Then, I turned the Automata’s gaze to where the arrow came from.

There was someone there I recognized.

“Hey there, ladies. You really got me good yesterday.”

Saying so, a flashy-looking man emerged from the bushes where he was hiding. This was the same man who had been bothering us yesterday at the Adventurer’s Guild.

In addition to him, a group of people dressed like bandits came out, appearing to be his followers.

It seems the rumors about him, as mentioned by the cat-eared woman, were true after all.

“Master! This is bad, we’re surrounded!”

While I looked at the flashy man with disdain, considering him an idiot for picking a fight with the wrong person, Leif informed me of our predicament, his elf ears twitching.

My response was, “Hm.”

I thought nothing more of it than the fact that the number of prey has increased, and there would be a temporary increase in income.

In other words, a complete massacre was inevitable.

I didn’t intend to show Leif such a massacre, but if it’s in self-defense, there’s no problem.

Just in case there’s a powerful enemy, I thought of bringing reinforcements from the dungeon.

As I thought this, a conspicuous bald giant, looking exactly like a bandit from a picture, appeared next to the flashy man.

Although he’s a giant, he’s not as large as a giant race, so he’s probably just a human.

“Hey, Dale. Is it true that the woman with the mask is a prized catch?

Usually, people who wear masks have scars on their faces.”

“Don’t worry. There’s no mistake in my eyes that discern beauty.”

“Huh. Well, as long as we can sell her high after having our fun, I have no complaints.

We’re counting on your discerning eyes, handsome.”

While saying so, the bandit looked at Automata with lustful eyes.

On looking, the rest of the group had similar expressions.

They are no better than the goblins and stalkers―filth.

I will disinfect this filth immediately.

“Ah, ahh. . .”

Just as I was filled with murderous intent and was about to dispatch forces from the dungeon, I noticed something strange about Leif.

His face was pale, yet his eyes were filled with strong emotions as he glared at the bandits.

. . .What’s going on?

“Leif, do you know them?”

“. . .Yes. That guy. . .! That guy killed my father. . .!”

. . .Oh?

What a peculiar coincidence.

Watching Leif reveal his murderous intent toward the bandits, I felt an indescribable emotion.

However, there is one thing I can say for certain.

It’s better to expose pets to scary things so that it won’t be an issue since it’s a pretty common occurrence in this case.
