Story of a Country Girl Reincarnated as a Villainess Trying To Avoid a Bad End ~I Tried To Become Stronger Than the Last Boss Because I Don’t Want to Die~ – Chapter 40.3

SIDE: Flare

Someone once said it.

This world follows the story of a certain book.

The protagonist is a girl.

She is surrounded by unique boys and together they confront the evil Demon King.

Just hearing such a story makes it feel like a dream.

I also thought, what if I were a part of that world. . .

Then, someone said to me.

You are the protagonist of this world.

Yes, my friend was not an ordinary person.

She came from another world and was reborn as the heroine who opposes the protagonist. . .Slayer-san, whom I wanted to be friends with.

◇◇◇

“Good morning, Slayer-san.”

“Yes.”

“We’re meeting for lunch today, right?”

“That’s the plan.”

“Then I’ll come too!”

Since meeting Slayer-san, we have spent more time together.

She always seems to be thinking about something.

When she has a serious expression, if I quietly glance at her face, she notices my gaze.

“What?”

“It’s nothing!”

In those moments, I felt her small kindness.

She said that she was the villainess of the story.

Her original role was to bully and trouble the protagonist, help the Demon King cause more trouble, and in the end, be betrayed and killed.

When I heard that, I thought that such a terrible role was absolutely not what I wanted.

It seemed Slayer-san felt the same way and trained hard to avoid it.

That’s why she was exceptionally strong even within the school.

I am not very knowledgeable, and I don’t understand difficult things, but I could feel that she had  put in a lot of effort.

I also thought that her hardworking nature was amazing.

During lunch break, we went to the courtyard.

There, we saw Belfist-san, who noticed us and waved.

“Finally, Slayer and Flare as well.”

“Don’t say ‘as well.’ I think Belfist-san is the one who’s unnecessary.”

“You’re so mean, as always.”

“That was your fault.”

This person is Belfist-san.

Slayer-san’s collaborator. . .but I’m not fond of him.

There’s something about his face. . .or maybe his personality?

It’s hard to express, but I feel a dangerous vibe from him.

Apparently, he was called the final Boss in the story.

In other words, he and the protagonist were enemies.

So, there must be some emotional distance between them.

“By the way, Seika hurt me earlier.”

“Oh, where? On your back?”

“It’s was not physically. It’s about what he said.”

“I see. . .”

“Could you not be a little disappointed?”

“Hehe.”

Slayer-san also enjoyed teasing and playing with Belfist-san.

What she does is similar to what I do… but somehow it feels a bit off..

“Slayer-san!”

“Hm? What is it?”

“I will always be on Slayer-san’s side!”

“. . .What’s gotten into you all of a sudden?”

“I don’t know, I just felt like saying it.”

My friend is an amazing person.

I want more people to know that.

But… part of me thinks it’s fine the way things are…

I don’t quite understand it.

“You’re such a strange girl.”

“You’re the weird one.”

“That’s just Bel-san for you.”

“Right.”

“You two are so mean.”
