Reincarnated Witch’s Carefree Gourmet Journey – Chapter 87

𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐫

Once in this world, there was a witch with incredible power named Lovmarie.

She would later become a goddess of witches, a young girl with immense magical prowess.

She had the power to even destroy malevolent gods but died of old age.

She was then reincarnated in a far-off future as a noble lady in a world where magic had declined.

Marie, expelled from her original home, sets off on a global gourmet journey.

Along the way, she meets a beastman chef named Kaito.

Accompanied by a cat demon named Ose, they travel around the world tasting delicious meals.

They recently ventured to a far-eastern island nation across the ocean.

After thoroughly enjoying the local seafood, Marie returns to the western continent where she originally came from.

In search of the next “delicious” thing, Marie continues her journey today as well. . . . . .

“Phew. . . . . . what a troublesome situation.”

A beautiful girl named Marie murmurs this wistfully while riding in a carriage.

In front of her sits a black cat.

Though at first glance it looks like a regular cat, it is actually a demon.

『You really do attract trouble, don’t you?』

“It’s more of a nuisance. . . . . . All I want is to taste a dish made of Orc meat. . . . . .”

Marie doesn’t really want to help people.

The reason she fights is to eat delicious food.

She defeats magical creatures to obtain ingredients for that purpose.

“I didn’t do it for those soldiers, you know.”

『People might interpret that as you being tsundere, especially in your case, Witch-sama.』

Tsundere.

A way to describe hiding one’s true feelings.

Marie’s actions may appear virtuous, but they are really just for her own benefit, just like he says.

“What a nuisance.”

『You get complimented and still find it troublesome. . . . . . You’re an odd witch.』

That said, she’s never seen another witch in this world.

In this world where magic has declined, there are no magical beings left.

Indeed, Marie is the only magician in the world.

“I’ve always wondered, why can’t people use magic?”

『What do you mean?』

“I mean, it’s not like magical power has vanished from the world, right?”

Magical power. The energy used to perform magic.

『Right. Without magical power, even a great witch like you. . . . . .』

“Well, it’s not that I can’t use magic.”

『Wait, you can use it?!』

“Yes, but it’s incredibly exhausting, so I have ways of using magic without expending magical power.”

『Wow. . . . . . you’re really something else.』

While Ose is astounded, Marie continues the conversation.

“But magical power still fills the world, just as it did when I reincarnated.”

『Hm. . . . . . So you’re saying despite the source of magic not being depleted, why can’t people use it?』

“Exactly. It’s not that they don’t want to, it’s that they can’t. They don’t even attempt to use it. Take the recent battle with the Orcs, for example.”

Magic is the most effective means of attacking monsters.

You can unleash a powerful strike from a distance, after all.

“Even in a situation where a large number of monsters appeared, no humans used magic. It’s a little. . . . . . no, it’s very strange.”

『Now that you mention it. . . . . . So, what’s your take, Witch-sama?』

Marie pauses to think for a moment. . . . . . then says,

“I’m hungry.”

『Really? Weren’t we having an important conversation?』

“Once I got hungry, nothing else mattered. . . . . . Hey, Kaito. I’m hungry.”

Marie pleads with Kaito, the beastman who is seated at the driver’s seat.

“We’ll be arriving in the Imperial City soon!”

“Hmm. . . . . . I suppose I can hold on a little longer.”

She’s never eaten the Empire’s cuisine before.

“The anticipation is killing me.”

『Wow. . . . . . Prioritizing your appetite over the mysteries of the world. . . . . . impressive.』

“Are you making fun of me?”

『Uh. . . . . . Ahhh!』

Ose gets wrung out in mid-air as if he were a rag.

『What. . . . . . what is this?! What kind of magic is this?!』

“It’s called telekinesis, a magic that crushes the opponent with an invisible force.”

『Isn’t it elemental magic?! Ahh, it hurts! Help!』

With a snap, Marie releases her telekinesis.

Ose takes deep, ragged breaths.

『You. . . . . . you often use magic that’s not elemental, huh? I’ve never seen magic like that.』

“It’s my original magic.”

『Casually using something extraordinary. . . . . . you’re really something, aren’t you. . . . . .』

Marie holds her stomach.

“Ugh. . . . . . I’m really hungry now. . . . . .”

Slumping down, Marie lets herself sink into her chair.

“Hey. . . . . . Kaito. Are we there yet?”

“We’ve arrived! That’s the Imperial City!”

Marie peeks out from the window.

Ose perches on top of her hat.

『Wow. . . . . . This place. . . . . . seems to have lost a lot of its vitality.』

Just as Ose observes, there are hardly any people to be seen in the Imperial City.

Those who are outside are armed.

“Everyone seems tense. . . . . .”

『Probably the monster’s influence.』

“Ah, that’s unfortunate. . . . . .”

Ignoring Kaito’s empathy, Marie casually sits back down in her chair.

Then suddenly says,

“Stop.”

“What?”

“Stop. And get food. Now.”

“! Understood!”

Kaito pulls the carriage to the side of the road.

He lays out a mysterious mat on the ground.

Then, a mysterious door appears.

“Now! Get the food!”

“Yes, right away.”

Kaito hurries into the door.

Ose is impressed.

『So you do have a heart after all. Seeing these scared people and deciding to share food.』

From what Ose can see, the citizens of the Imperial City haven’t been eating properly.

It makes sense.

Monsters are attacking.

The routes for food supplies have had to be closed off.

As a result, food isn’t coming in, and everyone is hungry.

Marie offers them food. . . . . .

“What are you talking about?”

Marie makes a genuinely puzzled face.

“I’m hungry. That’s all there is to it.”

『. . . . . . Are you serious?』

“? I am serious. Super serious. I asked Kaito to make food to satisfy my own hunger.”

. . . . . .However, Kaito is probably misunderstanding.

“It’s ready!”

Kaito comes out holding a mountain of hot dogs.

Marie leaps out of the window.

And with a hot dog in each hand, she takes a big bite.

“Yum! So tasty! How delicious is this!”

. . . . . .The people of the imperial city watched from a distance.

Kaito smiles at them.

“There’s enough for everyone! This is a gift from Witch-sama!”

At first, everyone was skeptical, but the Witch was eating so carelessly and it looked so delicious. . . . . .

“I’ll eat some too!” “Me as well!”

One by one, the citizens of the imperial city come over and receive hot dogs from Kaito.

“So delicious!”

“How tasty!”

“I’ve never eaten anything like this!”

Seeing the delighted citizens, Kaito smiles at Marie.

“As expected of Witch-sama! You stocked up on orc meat to serve everyone, didn’t you!”

Well, as usual, Kaito is misunderstanding. . . . . .

Hearing this, the citizens shed tears.

“For us!” “Such a compassionate person!” “Thank you, Witch-sama!”

However, Ose watches this scene in disbelief.

Sure, from an outsider’s perspective, it might look like a beautiful story.

But in reality, Marie was simply hungry, and had Kaito make hot dogs.

That’s all there is to it.

Ose, who knows the truth, lets out a deep sigh. . . . . .

『Really, what kind of strange world is this. . . . . .』
