Sipping the warm tea that Miss Maid had thoughtfully brought over, I sense the dawn has long passed and there’s a stir of activity outside.

Roa-sama places a blank sheet of paper, about the size of two hands, on the table, evidently keeping an eye on the time.

“. . .It’s here.”

As Roa-sama mutters, the plain paper glows faintly, and text begins to appear on it.

“Communication complete, as planned. The enemy is in the castle. Will report further. Make sure to rest.”

The handwriting appears somewhat hurried but is elegantly done. Upon reading it, Roa-sama lets out a long, thin breath, visibly relaxing.

“. . .This will significantly reduce our pursuers today. Arthur, Rolf, please bear with me a little longer. I apologize for the inconvenience when you’re tired.”

“Of course, we are at your service wherever you go.”

“Once this is over, I will make sure you get a mandatory break, even if it means you’ll be cleaning today.”

Hearing Arthur’s pun, I hadn’t thought that a day would come when I’d feel this relieved.

It seems the report was good enough for jokes to be made.

“Edgardo and Rene, you’ll accompany me this afternoon. Make sure to rest beforehand.”

“Call for us whenever you need.”

Both bow their heads.

“Chris, continue gathering information among the servants.”

“I’ll activate the protective magical tool. Please take this with you when you enter or leave.”

Accepting the small pendant offered by Miss Maid, Roa-sama looks at me and places a hand over the paper on the desk.

“This is a magical tool paired with another sheet of paper. Whatever is written on this paper will be transcribed onto the other.”

Isn’t that a very expensive magical tool?

“I received word from His Majesty a moment ago. They’ve finished announcing personnel changes. The royal palace is in disarray. This will stir up the anti-royal faction and allow us to observe who makes what move. They likely won’t have the leisure to look for me. While we won’t be completely free of pursuers, their numbers will significantly reduce. Miss Norchev, rest well while you can.”

“Yes, I will take my leave to rest then.”

Roa-sama, who has a direct line of communication with His Majesty and possesses a costly magical tool. Roa-sama, who is targeted by the anti-royal faction.

The master of Edgardo, Rolf, and Rene. The master of Arthur of the Duke family.

Could it be that Roa-sama is someone of high status?

“Roa-sama. . . um.”

I consider asking but decide against it.

Roa-sama is Roa-sama. If there’s something that needs to be said, Roa-sama will reveal it themselves.

“I’ll probably sleep like a log. If something comes up, could you wake me up?”

“Understood. Sleep as much as you need. . . .Ah, you’ve been wearing that cloak this whole time. I haven’t been very attentive.”

“It’s fine, don’t worry about my cloak right now.”

The only reason I couldn’t take it off is because I’m wearing a negligee underneath.

“The bathroom is through that door. It’s connected to Miss Norchev’s bedroom, so you can sleep right after if you like.”

I feel dusty from moving through closed-off passages, so I decide to take a shower, though I’m tempted to just go to sleep.

Miss Maid gracefully appears and bows.

“May I touch your hair?”

My hastily tied-up hair is probably a mess, sticking out all over the place.

After feeling my hair as if to check its condition, Miss Maid bows again.

“I will prepare the bath for you. Please feel free to use everything in the bathroom.”

I enter the bathroom as the miss maid exits. The bathroom, adorned in white and gold, is both spacious and clean.

I take a shower and wash my hair with a shampoo that has a refreshing floral scent. The body soap produces a fine lather, leaving my skin feeling smooth and hydrated.

I dry my body and hair with a fluffy bath towel and let an automatic dryer take care of drying my hair as I sit.

“My hair feels so silky smooth!”

Surrounded by a mesmerizing scent, my hair turns out like something from a shampoo commercial. Despite being almost sleep-deprived, my skin isn’t breaking out either.

“High-quality cosmetics really are amazing!”

I change into new lingerie and a negligee and enter a spacious bedroom through another door.

The room is filled with elegantly arranged furniture, it’s lavish yet intricate. The room’s primarily white color scheme gives me a sense of relief. I would be intimidated if they had used real gold in here.

I open the door that leads back to the living room and poke my head out. I’d feel embarrassed showing my negligee.

Only Edgardo and Rene are in the room. It seems Roa-sama has already gone out.

“Edgardo-sama, Rene-sama, I’ll be retiring for the night. Good night.”

“Please rest well. I know it’s rude to ask this of a lady, but please don’t lock the door. In case of emergencies, we wouldn’t want to waste time unlocking it.”

“Understood. I trust all of you, so I’ll sleep with the door unlocked. If anything happens, please wake me up.”

“You’ve already been told it’s all fine today, haven’t you? Alice, just sleep as much as you want. You’ve worked hard.”

“The ones who’ve really worked hard are all of you. Both of you should also rest when you can.”

I don’t want to take up too much of their time with a lengthy conversation, so I wrap it up quickly and decide to get some rest.

I take off my shoes and place them beside the bed, then crawl into bed. I thought I’d be too excited to sleep, but it appears my body is tired.

As I close my eyes, my vision starts to spin, and I fall into sleep.
