Chapter 13: Granting Technique Observation

“We’re going to the volcano on our next expedition. There are a few more of us this time than last.”

“Volcanoes. Then heat tolerance is a must. And you’ll need to be able to withstand the dryness and dehydration.”

“You’re very knowledgeable.”

“I have done the same work at the court.”

I’m honestly happy to be praised.

The Knight Commander is older than me, about the same age as my father.

Their appearances and builds are completely different, but they share a similar atmosphere.

I feel at ease speaking with him.

“The needed grants are listed here. The most important ones are listed first, so please give as many as you can.”

“Let me have a look.”

A piece of paper is handed to me by the Knight Commander.

This time, the goal appears to be to defeat the Salamandras. They are fire-breathing monitor lizard demons who live in volcanic areas.

It is a dangerous demon that lives in hot places, including volcanoes, and has an extremely aggressive personality.

They rarely leave their environment and are considered safe as long as they are not approached.

According to the paper, the salamandra population has recently increased and they are coming down the volcano more frequently in search of food.

“Because there is a city beneath the volcano, it would be dangerous to leave it alone. Thankfully, no damage has yet been confirmed, but it is only a matter of time.

Minister Morgen added a few words to the statement.

Defeat Salamandras before its population explodes.

The departure is in a week.

The delivery date will inevitably be pushed back a week.

“I apologize for the short time since last time…”

I scan the list of required grant effects.

The essential items are highlighted, and the remaining items are listed in ascending order.

There are a total of nine effects needed.

Two grants are required for the weapons and one for the “complete armor.”

“Don’t worry. This will only take two days.”

“Two days? Are you sure?”

“Yes—The only problem is that with this many grants, we’ll require more than just armor and weapons. Can you get me some bracelets or other non-obtrusive decorations?”

“Certainly. I’ll ask you again: are you certain? There are more of these grants this time than last…”

Minister Morgen is concerned as he looks at me.

I give him a friendly smile.

“It’s not a problem, it’s just some simple grants.”

“Oh, how comforting—How did you manage to seduce her, Your Highness?”

“Hahaha, that’s a trade secret.”

We married for our mutual benefit.

You can’t possibly be telling the truth, can you?

I simply smiled at His Highness as he smiled back.

“May I ask you a question, Phyllis-sama?”

“Yes—What is it?”

It was the Knight Commander who asked me the question.

“You said it wasn’t a problem earlier, but don’t tell me you’ll be able to grant all of the grants in a short period of time?”

“Of course, that’s what I’ll do… Is something wrong?”

“No, I just find it difficult to believe…”

The Knight Commander was taken aback as well.

For me, I used to grant about nine effects at the same time during my time at the court.

“Phyllis.”

“What is it? Your Highness.”

“You’re not going to overwork yourself, are you?”

“Yes—This is something I can handle. And you’re going to give me another break, right?”

“Yes, of course. I’d like you to play with the twins as well.”

“Yes.”

I don’t mind being busy as long as I get enough rest.

Working is a way of life for me.

I’ve been in that environment.

“If you don’t mind, Phyllis-sama, could you show us a little of your granting technique?”

“Right now?”

“Yes, I’d like to see how good Phyllis-sama is.”

“If it’s possible, I’d like to see it too.”

They both begged.

I cast a glance at His Highness.

The way he looked at me, it was as if he was saying, “It’s your call.”

“All right.”

That doesn’t change anything.

It’s normal for the customer to want to see the work.

I quickly agreed, and we relocated to a new location.

We went to the warehouse where the order’s armor is kept.

There are swords and armor stored there.

I’m just going to do a demonstration this time. So, only one suit of armor is required.

“I’m going to give this armor three effects now.”

“Many thanks for your kind cooperation.”

“This is the first time I’ve seen the granting technique.”

His Highness is with us.

It is not an option to fail.

But, in my time on the court, I have never failed.

“I’ll start.”

My right hand was placed on the armor.

The table then forms a magical circle.

The magical circle rotates from bottom to top.

It moves to take the shape of the armor and then vanishes.

“It’s over.”

“Huh, in a split second?”

“Yes. Each of the three effects has been granted. Would you like to look?”

Half convinced, they checked the effects with a special tool.

The three effects are clearly visible.

They looked at me, surprised once more.

“What an accomplishment… I can’t believe you finished three grants in one sitting and in an instant.”

“This is simple enough. I can grant up to eight effects at once, and depending on the size of the target, I can grant up to twenty.”

“””…”””

Minister Morgen and the Knight Commander are deafeningly quiet.

“Hahaha.”

Only His Highness laughed.

“Well…”

“It’s like it’s so awesome that they don’t even know what to say.”

“I-Is that so?”

Both of them nodded.

To me, this is a standard technique, nothing out of the ordinary… That is exactly how it should be.
