Chapter 12: Disaster Avoidance Meeting (Part 1)
“Hey, Steed. Is it okay to spend our time so leisurely? I thought there would be more things we need to be cautious about.”
Chloe and Steed are currently taking a walk on the promenade within the castle grounds.
The spring sunshine is warm and pleasant, and the birds are chirping, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
“The story really starts moving after we enter the academy. Until then, there are only a few events that serve as turning points.”
“Are there really that few?”
“I think there’s only one event per year, if even that. The main game starts from the summer when we’re 15 years old and the heroine enters the academy. Events before that are only told through memories that the capture targets tell the heroine or through flashback scenes, so I don’t even know all the details.”
“So, the small daily events don’t appear in the game.”
It’s not always convenient to know everything in advance.
“But there are good points too. Since the events that change the character’s life are clear, there’s no chance of making a mistake in how to deal with them.”
Like the incident where Roland was trapped.
If they can overcome the biggest obstacle, they can avoid the crisis for the time being.
The next important episode will occur in the summer of the second year.
Until then, they will increase their knowledge of the game and keep an eye out to prevent Roland’s trauma from being delayed.
That’s why Chloe is secretly visiting Roland.
Of course, incognito.
Thanks to that, her skills for secretly infiltrating have improved quite a bit.
“Now, Roland! Come with me! I’ll give you special training because I see potential in you as a villain!”
“Huh? Why? I’m busy with stupid lessons for living in the castle.”
“Oh. Then I’ll teach you how to skip out! I’m a pro at that.”
“Hmm. Not a bad temptation.”
“Both of you, really. . .Listen, Roland. You must not be influenced by Chloe in a bad way.”
With a sigh, Steed warns him, and Roland snorts.
“You’re saying that you don’t like me being with Chloe, right?”
“Of course not. I’m watching over you two with a smile.”
“Your eyes aren’t smiling. Do you think you can get away with that?”
“What are you two talking about?”
“”Nothing.””
Although it seemed like they were arguing, they both give the same answer, so it’s unclear what they mean.
Are they really close or not?
“Hey, Chloe. During the lesson, I’ll be right next to Roland. You don’t have to be so focused on him like this.”
“Don’t hold back. I’m much better at predicting the thoughts of small-time crooks like Gideon than you are. So leave it to me!”
“Hmm. It seems like my point isn’t getting across at all. . .”
“It’s okay. I won’t mess up. Steed is much busier than I am, so I’ll focus on studying.”
Every time Chloe insists on this, for some reason, Steed looks complicated.
Does he really want to protect Roland with his own hands that badly?
They are brothers, so it may be natural.
Because Chloe and Steed are always sticking together like glue, Roland is not afraid of the dark for now.
When asked, “Weren’t you scared when you were locked up in the Northern Tower?” he replied, “Someone came right away and made me laugh. I didn’t even have time to be scared. Hey, you, play that song again.” and grinned.
He seems to have the leisure to tease people, but he doesn’t seem to be pretending to be tough.
However, that doesn’t mean they can relax.
There is a possibility that Gideon may cause a similar incident in the future and Roland may be imprisoned in the [Northern Tower] again.
According to Steed, Roland said in the game that he was locked up by the private tutor many times before entering the academy.
Although that tutor was fired, there is no guarantee that another adult won’t lend a hand to Gideon.
Unfortunately, there are many people in the royal palace who do not like Roland, even though there are no people who openly bully him.
She has witnessed scenes where he was being bullied and has rushed to his side more than once or twice.
Chloe often gets into fights and argues with others, and she’s quite good at it.
However, Roland is much more eloquent with his words.
There is much to learn from him.
Thanks to him, Chloe’s skills in arguing have improved significantly.
That’s why it’s fun to be with Roland.
Despite the problem of avoiding the death flag, she wanted to be friends with him.
She doesn’t know how Roland feels about her.
But she feels like he doesn’t dislike her.
Every time she finds Roland surrounded by bullies, she rushes over with her hair flying and drives them away, and he sighs with a look of exasperation.
Despite his blunt attitude, his eyes always seem happy.
[I always say I can do it alone. . .but thank you.]
[Oh. . .!]
Every time she hears such a curt expression of gratitude, Chloe becomes happy.
When they first met, he was so hostile and aggressive.
Now he has opened up quite a bit.
Sometimes he laughs so hard that he holds his stomach while chatting with Chloe.
In addition, Roland has become close enough to talk to his older brother Steed as if they were old friends.
Sometimes, they stare at each other with a defiant smile, with Chloe in between them. This is probably a sign that they get along well.
As they spent time like that, time flew by in the blink of an eye. . .
Chloe turned thirteen.
This is the second important episode that leads to a death flag.
The summer day when it happens is approaching soon――.
