I Became the Academy’s Genius Shikigami Summoner – Chapter 8.1

Chapter 8.1

“You’re late.”

As I entered the 2-D class, a man with long hair and sharp eyes, quite unusual for a man, spoke to me.

I remember him.

Choi Do-won. He’s a teacher who mainly teaches upper-class students and was described as someone who’s quite discriminatory when it comes to abilities.

「𝘾𝙝𝙤𝙞 𝘿𝙤-𝙬𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝘿 𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙨.」

As if he could read my mind, Choi Do-won sighed and continued.

“It’s temporary. Don’t make me explain it twice.”

Choi Do-won had an expression that clearly showed that he was annoyed by me.

Well, considering Choi Do-won’s character, the person he would hate the most in this room would be me.

Because even though my grades have been declining, I still haven’t left the academy like a worm, refusing to face reality.

“This is quite a sight, even for the first day. I don’t even want to hear your excuse. I’ll put you at the very end of the list for choosing electives. No complaints, right?”

I quickly glanced around, and it seemed like the other students had almost finished choosing their electives. Complaining after coming in late would only make me look bad.

A sheet of paper that was scattered in front of Choi Do-won quickly flew in front of me and stopped.

I picked it up, went to an empty seat, and began to read the contents.

【Advanced Basic Combat Spell】

【Influence of the Environment on Spells】

【Exploring Dragon Veins and Places of Interest】

【History and Origin of Eastern Spells】

【Spell Manipulation and Modification】

【Forbidden Arts】

【Martial Arts and Physical Techniques】

【. . . . . .】

The school’s curriculum is largely divided into two types. There are grade-based classes, which are divided into a total of four classes from A to D, and elective classes, where students can choose their own subjects, just like in a university, which account for a certain percentage.

Originally, there are countless types of spells and schools of thought, and each person has their own specialty, so this method was bound to be much more efficient.

「𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙗𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙨 𝙄 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙪𝙗𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙨 𝙄’𝙫𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚.」

However, I had a rough idea of what I wanted to choose.

After much deliberation, these were the classes I chose:

【History and Origin of Eastern Spells】

【Spell Manipulation and Modification】

【Exploring Dragon Veins and Places of Interest】

【Advanced Basic Combat Spell】

【Shikigami Creation and Research】

These are subjects that I can use to demonstrate my knowledge and skills to a moderate degree, and there’s nothing in the storyline that I particularly dislike.

「𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙩𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙞𝙣𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙧-𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙧 𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨.」

With me and a few students around me, all the students’ registration forms were finally submitted.

And after a while, Choi Do-won raised a few sheets of paper in the air and opened his mouth again.

“Most of the subjects have been selected. Now, it’s time for those who need to re-select their electives.”

Thud, thud.

About five students received the papers again, and finally, only one registration form was left.

I blinked, thinking, ‘No way,’ and Choi Do-won spoke to me with a slight smirk.

“Han Kang-yoon. You don’t need to choose your subjects again since you were late. Just check the contents.”

I received the paper that Choi Do-won handed me with a sense of foreboding and read it.

【Comprehensive Combat Practice】

【Spell Manipulation and Modification】

【Forbidden Arts】

【Shikigami Creation and Research】

【1 on 1 Exchange and Joint Practice】

「𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙘𝙠 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨?」

All the relatively safe subjects that were easy to get good grades in were gone, and they were replaced with subjects that D-class students would definitely want to avoid.

After checking the contents, I looked at Choi Do-won with a look of disbelief.

Choi Do-won responded indifferently.

“All the processes were carried out fairly and rationally according to the spells created by the school. Are there any complaints?”

“. . . . . . .”

There couldn’t possibly be a student who could answer that question.

“Then I guess there’s no problem.”

As soon as he finished speaking, dozens of mechanical devices appeared before Choi Do-won’s eyes. And they were delivered to each student’s desk, one by one.

They were terminals made by the Hwang family, one of the three great families, famous for combining technology and spells.

“I think you already know this, but starting from the second year, the proportion of grade-based classes decreases significantly. Therefore, today, only elective classes will be held. Check your schedule on the terminal and I hope none of you are late like someone. That’s all.”

Thud, thud.

Choi Do-won left the classroom, walking leisurely as if he didn’t want to stay here for even a moment longer.

I sighed and picked up the terminal to check the schedule.

【10:40 / Comprehensive Combat Practice】

The subject I wanted to avoid the most, Comprehensive Combat Practice, was waiting for me at the very top.
