Dark Fantasy: Magical Eye Knight – Chapter 94

Chapter 94: Warlock and Chimera

Russell and his companions turned their horses and retraced their path. In less than two hours, they successfully emerged from the forest.

As they exited the forest, Russell focused his vision by infusing his eyes with mana. A faint glow shimmered in his purple eyes.

Like a string pulling them forward, the distant village came into view. Behind the peaceful sight of barley and wheat fields stood the village, from which plumes of black smoke rose. The center of the palisade had a gaping hole, as if a giant battering ram had shattered it.

he said in a hushed

“Is it still in that direction?”

Calia answered Russell’s question.

“Yes. The needle’s tip points toward the village.”

The crimson needle that floated above her palm pointed toward the village. That was certain. The bandits and the monstrous wolves that had devoured corpses transformed into monsters.

The mastermind behind this had entered the village. And it happened shortly after they had left.

Just then, something else caught Russell’s eye. It was a young boy. The boy was running, limping, with his left arm wrapped around his right shoulder. Blood stained his rough clothes and pants red.

Russell recognized the boy. He was the boy who had been holding his father’s urn in the church.

He immediately spurred Kry forward. When he saw them approaching, the boy collapsed forward. Russell jumped off Kry and caught the boy before he hit the ground.

Kai, Aellasis, and Calia looked down on Russell and the boy he was holding with hardened expressions. Aellasis spoke.

“Hey, it’s that kid.”

The boy gripped Russell’s arm. His grip was weak. The boy continued to force his closing eyes open.

The boy’s faint brown pupils reflected the face of a man with black hair and indigo eyes. The boy spoke with a desperate voice.

“Uncle. . . . . .cle. . .mom. . . . . .”

The boy’s arm, which had only spoken a few words, went limp. Russell’s hand touched the boy’s chest. A white light emanated from his hand. It was the light of healing. However, the boy’s heart was gradually fading away.

“Calia.”

Calia, who was standing next to him, knelt down on one knee and touched the boy’s forehead. Russell spoke quietly while emitting a healing light.

“Can you heal him?”

“. . . . . .There are many types of magic, Russell. Certain types of magic require a specific race, inherent nature, or mana to manifest. I am a vampire, and the magic I can use is limited. My specialty is focused a bit more on blood and shadows. And even if I knew another healing spell, this boy has lost too much blood.”

“What if we use my blood or yours?”

Calia looked at Russell. A faint purple light flickered in her crimson eyes.

“Ordinary humans cannot withstand your blood. They will die. Even if they do withstand it, they will become something other than humans.”

Just then, Russell realized that the boy’s faintly beating heart had stopped. Russell quietly laid the boy’s body down. The boy, whose name he did not know, stared up at the sky with empty pupils. Russell closed his eyes and stood up.

“. . . . . . . .”

As they quickly approached the village, the smell of blood grew stronger. Russell halted before the palisade and addressed Kry.

“Stay back.”

Kry slowly retreated with Kai’s horse. Russell and his companions slowly crossed the palisade. The gaping hole in the palisade allowed the new visitors to enter without resistance.

As they crossed paths, Russell came across Sherin. He had been guarding the village and the palisade from the watchtower and palisade in order to protect the village, and he had not allowed Kai and Russell’s party to enter. However, after Russell had hit him several times and apologized, he was no longer fit to guard the village.

Russell passed by Sherin, who was scattered here and there.

Corpses were strewn about everywhere. Some of the corpses shriveled like mummies, their skin a dark brown. They had not only drained their blood, but also lost their fundamental life force.

Russell continued on, recognizing the face of a woman he had seen earlier. She was a woman who had been sitting against the wooden fence, her limbs spread out haphazardly. A large hole had been punched through her chest, and her heart was nowhere to be seen. It was the boy’s mother.

He passed by that corpse as well.

“. . . . . . . .”

Many of the other corpses’ faces were familiar. Among them were those of the villagers he had passed by once, as well as those he had saved from the bandits.

Besides the life-drained corpses, there were also those without hearts, such as the boy’s mother. Their expressions were all filled with fear and pain.

The village was quiet. The lively and bustling scene from just before Russell and his companions left seemed like a lie. Several houses were burning and emitting smoke. A knocked over and lit candlestick ignited the fire.

In the center of the village, they encountered eight strangers. The eight strangers were wearing black cloaks and hoods. Their faces were unrecognizable under the gloomy gray sky.

“Are they the ones?”

Kai, who had been gritting his teeth at the tragedy in the village, clenched his fists. A fiery aura, Vulcan’s power, briefly surged.

The eight black cloaks had also noticed the new intruders. Each of them drew their swords from their waists.

Russell examined them carefully. Their entire bodies were filled with a sinister, gloomy mana. It was much more concentrated and stable than the mana he had seen from the bandits the last time.

Just then, someone opened the door of the church, which stood in the center of the village, and came out.

He was holding a large, hook-shaped wooden staff and wore a black cloak and hood, just like the eight swordsmen. Each time his staff touched the ground, the iron rings that hung from the middle to the hook rattled.

He came out with several people suspended in the air behind him.

“Ugh, cough. . . . . . . .”

“S, Save me. . . . . ., please save me. . . . . . . .”

They were the villagers who had taken refuge in the church. Among them were the village chief, the merchant, Tebonin, and the priest. An invisible something in the air tied the people, and they discovered Russell and his companions just below them.

However, before they could hope, the invisible force that had bound them cut off their breath. Their necks and limbs snapped, their skulls burst, and their hearts exploded.

Without exception, the one holding the staff gathered their life force into his hands. The one who had gathered mana and life force discovered Russell and spoke.

“I know your face. You are the one who killed all my test subjects. I thought you had left this village. Why have you come back?”

“Why are you doing this?”

The one holding the staff tilted his head.

“Hmm. Let’s introduce ourselves first. My name is Luganes. Who are you?”

“Why are you doing this?”

“Why? Because it’s necessary.”

“For what?”

“I don’t want to answer someone who won’t even tell me their name.”

“Russell.”

“Exchanging names is a very basic step in forming a relationship. Did you ask why? Let’s say we’re cleaning. Or recycling? Or gathering materials?”

“Why?”

Luganes spreads his arms wide.

“Because I have the power to.”

“. . . . . .”

Luganes chuckled. Since he still had his hood on, the laughter that came from the darkness had a sinister atmosphere.

“This world is a world that is more loving and merciful than anyone else to those who have the power and the qualifications. I like those who have power and qualifications. On the contrary, I feel sick when I see those who don’t. Rubbish has no use or value. I give them meaning.”

“What kind of meaning?”

Russell slowly drew upon his mana. Luganes said.

“The opportunity to become the foundation of my power and qualifications is truly exciting. If you dig through the trash, you’re bound to find good things, and if you keep collecting dust, it will eventually become a large lump. It’s a tough process . . .Well, that’s all it takes, with a little more entertainment. By the way, you’re really unusual. What are those eyes? They’re amazing.”

Russell removed Final Frost from his coat and threw it away. The axe, which had become a disc of light, flew towards Luganes as if it would split his body in two.

Boom━!

The final Frost did not achieve its purpose. Luganes, who had reflexes almost as good as Russell’s, swung his staff. The shockwave that erupted from the staff sent the axe flying high into the sky.

The axe, which seemed to have flown so far away, suddenly lost its momentum at a certain point and fell down into Russell’s hand.

Final Frost had yet to recover from its return spell. Russell had spread a mana field around him, just like he had done when he blocked the bandits’ arrows last time, and then interfered with and nullified the movement within the field.

The level was still not that high. He could not use telekinesis to lift or pull something up as if he were manipulating it delicately. It meant that it was not an ability that he could use freely while fighting.

However, Russell did not care. Without such things, he had killed monsters and villains well.

Luganes gripped his trembling staff tightly.

If he hadn’t had a spell imprinted on his body in advance, he would have died from that one move. That was how powerful the axe was.

“. . . Your materials are becoming increasingly tempting. I cannot imagine how amazing a being I could create using you, as well as those guys behind you.”

Luganes licked his lips. Behind Russell were a large, brown-skinned orc, a black-haired woman, and a white-haired girl.

He realized that the black-haired woman was a high-level wizard. The girl was only beginning to walk, but her mana was very pure. ‘Where did these materials come from? Was it the grace of Geliotos?’

Luganes raised his staff and slammed it into the ground.

Kukung.

It was a light movement, but the sound that rang out was heavy. At the same time, black mana spread out from under Luganes’ feet. And he ordered.

“Go. Tear and kill.”

At that point, the eight strangers pulled their hoods back. Their exposed faces were grotesque. Their skin was pale, and crimson blood vessels bulged out.

Their eyes were red and sometimes black, with no boundary between the whites and the pupils. They clenched their flesh and tore their mouths open to their ears. Their exposed teeth were chillingly sharp.

Aellasis shivered at their bizarre and terrifying appearance.

“Ugh, what are those things?”

Kai also spoke with a face that was uncharacteristically pale for his brown skin, but with his fists clenched and raised.

“Vulcan. Please give me strength.”

Calia silently uncurled her fingers. Her crimson eyes flashed quietly under the dark sky.

Russell raised Final Frost. In the cold air, he stared at the monsters without batting an eye. Luganes raised his staff and pointed it at Russell.

“Go.”

The eight monsters split in half. Four of them rushed towards Russell, while the remaining four rushed towards the party behind him. Russell was not worried about his companions.

Kai was a great warrior, even if his god had been forgotten, and Aellasis was a dragon, although she was young. And above all, there was Calia.

Russell kicked away the sword that was stabbing straight at him, then slashed the monster’s waist with Final Frost. Snap, and the arm stopped. The axe failed to penetrate the monster’s waist completely, becoming stuck in the middle.

His eyes narrowed. The durability of these monsters was far beyond what he had imagined.

Three sword blades, having blocked Russell’s movements, flew towards him for a brief moment. The attacks were as regular and precise as interlocking gears.

The monsters’ movements were not simply well organized. They moved in unison, as if they shared a consciousness. It was like a single organism.

Russell recognized the accuracy of his thoughts when he observed the synchronization of their mana wavelengths and the connection between those wavelengths to Luganes. However, what did that matter?

“Hup!”

Russell shouted with a burst of energy and put all his strength into his body. His swollen muscles pushed against his bones, but his solid bones endured. Lightning-fast signals raced through his nerves. Finally, mana surged through the circuit, unleashing unprecedented power.

They had a shared consciousness, a field of vision, durability stronger than steel, and coordinated attacks. All of them were things that Russell could break through now. Russell recognized and believed in his own body and strength.

Kwarung-!

Lightning flashed within the axe.

The monster, clutching the axe by its waist, shattered, scattering numerous pieces of its body in the air. The things that were foaming froze and shattered in the frost, and lightning emitted from the axe, creating a momentary flash of light.

The axe swung between the cold and the heat of the lightning.

One of the monsters noticed that Russell had dropped the axe and judged it to be an opening. He pushed forward without letting go of the sword he was swinging.

Before that, Russell’s fist slammed into the monster’s face. His lightning-wrapped movement was even faster than before, and the monster with its shattered face flew backwards.

Russell’s left hand caught the flying axe as if it had been waiting. The final Frost sliced through the monster’s neck, rushing in from the side. As always, no blood was spilled.

The remaining two could no longer take advantage of their numbers. Even with four of them, they had not been able to kill Russell. And Luganes thought so too.

Rather than bursting out in admiration and hurling curses at Russell’s strength and skill, which far exceeded his expectations, he quickly chanted a spell.

Then, the remaining two began to breathe heavily. The crimson veins that stood out on their pale skin became more and more numerous.

Their size also gradually increased. Their growing muscles, tendons, and joints were quite threatening. As their mass increased, their weight also became heavier, and their feet left deep footprints with each step they took.

And Luganes’ black mana, which had spread to Russell’s feet, turned the ground black. From there, green stems sprouted and wrapped around Russell’s limbs. The ground transformed into a swamp, swallowing up his legs.

Just then, the coat emitted a light and turned into black armor, protecting Russell. Luganes muttered in surprise.

“A magic axe and magic armor. What kind of bastard are you?”

“Hwahh!”

Russell cut off the green stems that were pulling him and stabbed the axe into the ground. The swamp froze, and Russell pulled his legs out of the rough ground, which was no longer sticky.

Just then, one of the monsters that had come close enough swung a large fist. The sound of the air cutting seemed to reveal the extent of its brute force.

Tak.

However, the sound was insignificant in comparison to the force of the swing. Russell blocked the fist with his hand, which had been lightly lifted. The monster’s fist crumpled with a slight force, resembling a press.

“Kreeee!”

The monster that cried out in pain was about to strike a follow-up blow when Russell’s uppercut blew the monster’s jaw off. The enlarged trapezius and neck muscles could not hold the flying head.

“Caw!”

Another one let out a shriek and threw its whole body at Russell. Russell stepped into the monster’s shadow and stabbed its neck with his left hand and abdomen with his right hand, grabbing its spine. And he stabbed it down.

With a loud noise, the ground caved in. Russell pulled his right hand out of the monster, which was vomiting blood. Blood and entrails covered the gauntlet, revealing a spine.

Russell stepped on the monster’s chest, which lay spread out on the ground. Lightning flashed again from his foot, which had pierced the chest.

Kururrung.

The thunder that rang out on the ground, not in the sky, subsided, and Russell slowly removed his leg from the charred monster’s body. With dull eyes, Luganes stared at Russell.

It was a moment. Without time to cast another spell, Russell had crushed the chimeras he had worked so hard to create.

Russell walked towards Luganes.

“Come here, you son of a b*ch. You won’t get to die a peaceful death.”

A beast-like growl. A long, purple light trailed from the devil-like helmet, forming a tail.
