Chapter 7.2
ㅤ
In the auditorium where Han Kang-yoon disappeared, someone hurriedly approached Yoo Ha-on, who was standing there blankly. It was Baek Eun-seo, who had recently become friends because they were in the same freshman class.
ㅤ
“Ha-on, are you okay? Who was that person?”
ㅤ
“T-that. . . I don’t know. I don’t remember ever seeing him before.”
ㅤ
Yoo Ha-on was just as bewildered. At first, she wondered if she just couldn’t remember, but no matter how much she thought about it, it was someone she didn’t know.
ㅤ
「𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙚. . .?」
ㅤ
Since it was an expression that was filled with sincerity to the point that it couldn’t be considered a mistake, Yoo Ha-on couldn’t bring herself to shake off Kang-yoon’s hand.
ㅤ
If it wasn’t a case of mistaking her for someone else, there was only one possibility she could think of.
ㅤ
「𝙄 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙝𝙞𝙢, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙝𝙚 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙢𝙚?」
ㅤ
That was not a trivial matter for Yoo Ha-on.
ㅤ
Since she was of unknown origin and had no relatives, it was impossible for her to have such a relationship.
ㅤ
「𝙄𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙚, 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙞𝙩 𝙗𝙚. . .」
ㅤ
She had been searching for her past all this time, but there had been no clues so far.
ㅤ
However, he might know something about her past. If so, she couldn’t let this go.
ㅤ
“If he’s trying to do something, tell me. I’ll crush him.”
ㅤ
“It’s fine. It’s not like I’m being threatened or anything. It’s just. . .”
ㅤ
It’s just a little concerning. Yoo Ha-on glanced at the direction where Kang-yoon had disappeared for no reason.
ㅤ
🔷🔷🔷🔷🔷🔷
ㅤ
Most people have probably seen this kind of scene in a movie.
ㅤ
Even though dozens of bullets are flying around, the main characters safely avoid them, or while others are struggling against a single zombie, it gets torn apart like a piece of paper in front of the main character.
ㅤ
Realistically speaking, it’s artificial and doesn’t make sense.
ㅤ
However, people don’t make a big deal out of it. It’s a story from the beginning, and that’s the main character.
ㅤ
「𝙊𝙛 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚, 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙨𝙤, 𝙖 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙡 𝙙𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙧𝙮.」
ㅤ
For example, blocking the view with smoke or having the main character have a past as a skilled soldier in combat.
ㅤ
「𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙚𝙭𝙤𝙧𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙢 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙩 1, 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙣𝙩𝙞-𝘿𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙩.」
ㅤ
EX-rank, which is called a non-standard.
ㅤ
The Anti-Demon trait can be said to be the number one contributor to helping the main character and the supporting characters around him somehow get through situations with low odds of winning.
ㅤ
In other words, it’s a deus ex machina, an existence like a cheat key in the progression of the story.
ㅤ
But what if that doesn’t exist?
ㅤ
「𝙄𝙣 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚’𝙨 𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙖 𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚.」
ㅤ
Since there’s even an attack strategy for the Anti-Demon trait itself later on, that says it all.
ㅤ
「𝙄𝙛 𝙞𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙣 𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙩, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙖 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙤𝙗𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙩, 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙛 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙣𝙤𝙬.」
ㅤ
However, the Anti-Demon trait is different. It’s a trait that’s impossible to have unless one is born with it from the beginning.
ㅤ
“Whew.”
ㅤ
Since exorcism Part 1 is an old game, it has a fairly orthodox storyline. In other words, the main characters’ tightrope walking inevitably continues.
ㅤ
If they fail that tightrope walking due to the absence of the Anti-Demon trait, what would happen after that was obvious even with my eyes closed.
ㅤ
「𝙊𝙣𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙤𝙧 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙨.」
ㅤ
And if that happens several times and the friendly forces end up being short-handed?
ㅤ
「𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙙?」
ㅤ
While I was deep in endless contemplation, someone began to approach me from afar.
ㅤ
I didn’t care, but the owner of the footsteps stopped in front of me at some point and spoke.
ㅤ
“What are you doing here?”
ㅤ
Her shoulder-length, jade-colored bob cut dazzled my vision as it caught the light.
ㅤ
It was Seo Ji-an.
ㅤ
“I had something on my mind.”
ㅤ
“I can see that.”
ㅤ
Seo Ji-an took out her cell phone as if she was dumbfounded and showed me the screen, saying.
ㅤ
“. . .It’s been thirty minutes? Aren’t you going?”
ㅤ
Only then did I remember what the guide had shouted in the auditorium earlier.
ㅤ
『Everyone must be gathered by 9:30!』
ㅤ
I had completely forgotten about it.
ㅤ
Flustered, I asked Seo Ji-an, who was sending me a pitiful look.
ㅤ
“What about you?”
ㅤ
“Special counseling.”
ㅤ
In the end, it meant that I was the only one who was late.
