Upon returning to the dormitory, three girls were enjoying tea in the lounge.
“Ah, welcome back.”
“You’re late. What did you have for dinner?”
“Oh, welcome back. . . . . .haha.”
Ashe was nibbling on a cookie, Lapis sipped her tea, and for some reason, Ridelle seemed restless, seemingly self-conscious about her casual clothing.
Albero doesn’t want to break this pleasant atmosphere, but. . . . . .he has to ask.
“Hey, are there any letters for me?”
“Letters? Don’t you usually toss them without even reading? Well. . . . . .I kept them just in case.”
“Where are they?”
“In that basket over there. Why so sudden?”
“No reason. . . . . .”
Albero checks the basket placed in a corner of the lounge.
Only letters from his parents. He didn’t even want to touch them, but he starts checking from the most recent date. The three girls exchanged glances, looking puzzled.
And then, Albero found it.
“. . . . . .This is it.”
It was exactly as Esterize had said.
The letter confirmed the reversal of his expulsion, a promotion of his noble rank, and an announcement of a royal tea party to be held soon. Upon finishing the letter, Albero felt overwhelmed.
“Hey, what’s the matter?”
“. . . . . .Lapis.”
“Yes?”
“Did you know about the upcoming royal tea party?”
“Yes, of course. The Fragment Duke family is always invited. . . . . .I’m planning to attend.”
“. . . . . .The Rushout family has been invited too.”
“Really?!”
Ashe was shocked.
The royal tea party, hosted by the Asgard kingdom, only invites nobles who reside within the capital or the Margraves governing the major cities. It was unprecedented for the Baron of the small Rushout territory, located on the outskirts, to be invited.
To begin with, they were no longer just a Baron family.
“The Rushout family has been promoted from Baron to Count. The Margrave of the Helheim region was stripped of his title due to corruption, and it seems the Rushouts have been chosen as the successors. It seems my achievement in the demon subjugation was also a factor.”
“No way! You got promoted?!”
“Yeah. Good for you, Ashe. Won’t your family’s salary also increase?”
“. . . . . .This is the first I’m hearing of it.”
“I didn’t know either. . . . . .damn.”
“But! Albero, you were expelled from the Rushout family.”
“That decision has been reversed. It seems my father sent a retraction letter and it was accepted. . . . . .all done discreetly.”
“Um, excuse me. . . . . .”
Ridelle raised her hand.
Everyone’s gaze shifted to her.
“What’s a Margrave? I don’t really understand noble ranks.”
“Well. . . . . .think of a Margrave as the king of a small country within the Asgard kingdom’s territory. Since there’s only one king, they can’t use the title ‘king’. The Rushout family originally managed a small territory called Rushout in the Helheim region as a Baron. However, due to the corruption and downfall of the Margrave governing the Helheim region, the Rushouts were chosen as the successors and even had their title upgraded. This elevation included credit for Albero’s demon subjugation. . . . . .did I get that right?”
Ashe looked at Albero for confirmation.
Albero nodded, looking weary.
“After ignoring me for so long, now you send a letter. . . . . .I refuse to be used as a tool by those nobles, especially those parents.”
“So, what will you do?”
“. . . . . .I don’t want to go to the tea party.”
“You can’t! If you miss a tea party hosted by nobles, especially the royal family, the dignity of that house will be questioned!”
“I don’t really care.”
“Even if you don’t care about Albero’s family, what about the people living in the Helheim region? Think about it. The Rushout family is a Baron, a noble who has risen two ranks at once. There must be nobles who made various moves to become a Margrave. Surely there will be opposition from nobles who aren’t pleased with this. If Albero skips the tea party, the dignity of the Rushout family will be questioned, and they might be attacked, right? There’s also a possibility of harassment against the Helheim region. . . . . .”
“. . . . . .”
Albero covered his face again and sighed.
“. . . . . .sigh, I got it. Lapis, tell me about the tea party.”
“Yes, what about manners and such. . . . . .?”
“I learned it once, but please teach me again.”
“What about the clothes to wear?”
“I don’t have any. Is the uniform okay?”
“No, that won’t do! Ah, there’s a store in the shopping area that sells clothes!”
“Alright! I’ll handle it. Albero, we’ll go after school tomorrow!”
“Ugh. . . . . .”
“No complaints!! Ridelle, you’re coming too!!”
“Okay. Hmm, seems interesting.”
“I don’t find it interesting. . . . . .”
Then, the dormitory door opened, and Kid appeared with a bottle of liquor.
It seems he went out drinking.
“What’s up? Seems lively here.”
“. . . . . .”
“What is it?”
” . . . . . .I just thought, I’d rather be a commoner.”
“Are you picking a fight?”
Albero sighed heavily once again.
