𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟔𝟖: 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
Crumbling. Crumbling. Continuing to crumble.
Like a sand castle being swept away by the waves, the soldiers of the Royal Army start to flee.
ㅤ
Because their leader, Gozack, has been taken down.
The victory of Asuka resonates quickly throughout the battlefield, entirely determining the outcome of the battle.
Voices suggesting surrender, and those agreeing, can be heard from everywhere.
ㅤ
“So our allies finally have the opportunity to advise surrender.”
ㅤ
I heard Salieri’s voice from behind and turned around in surprise.
As always, she greeted me with her unwavering smile.
Had she been protecting me, who lost my weapon?
ㅤ
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
ㅤ
Being able to show such consideration is indeed a sign of an adult. Even though her appearance suggests otherwise.
I want to be like that too.
ㅤ
“Mommy Nel!”
ㅤ
Just then, Asuka rushed over.
Holding two swords. One is my Oracion, and the other must be the sword Gozack was holding.
Since Asuka was the one who defeated him, the ownership has already been transferred to her.
ㅤ
But, when she handed me the sword, I didn’t know what to do.
ㅤ
“But, aren’t you going to return Oracion to me?”
“Eh?! Didn’t you give this to me?!”
“No one said. . . well, never mind.”
ㅤ
She’s lost her Asuka Blade, and it wouldn’t be right for a swordsman of her caliber to use some random, nameless sword.
ㅤ
I took the sheath off the belt around my waist and handed it to Asuka.
While taking Gozack’s sword.
This one seems like a really significant piece.
ㅤ
It’s single-edged, slightly curved, with a flame-like, wavy pattern on the blade.
ㅤ
“This is a cursed sword from the Eastern Kingdom of Landsfero, also known as a Katana.”
ㅤ
Salieri explains, but I’ve never heard of that country.
ㅤ
“There are some characters engraved on the top of the guard.”
“Are these characters?”
ㅤ
I can’t understand the pattern.
ㅤ
“It says ‘Flame Cut’. That’s the name of the Katana.”
ㅤ
Can she read it?
That’s impressive for a member of the special forces of the Masrur Kingdom.
ㅤ
Apparently it means a sword that can even cut through flames. I don’t quite get it, but it must be a powerful magic sword.
It could even break the Asuka Blade.
ㅤ
“Are you sure about this? Asuka. It seems to be a quite impressive sword.”
“It’s fine! A holy sword filled with prayers to help his lover is way cooler!”
ㅤ
Cooler? Is that how you choose a weapon?
Isn’t the standard supposed to be how strong it is, or how well it fits in your hand?
ㅤ
“Heehee! And Mommy gave it to me in my time of need!”
ㅤ
She raises it above her head with both hands.
Does she have to do this ceremony every time she gets a new sword?
Well, whatever.
ㅤ
ㅤ
ㅤ
ㅤ
ㅤ
The Royal Army, twenty thousand strong, lost nearly sixty percent of its forces.
This amounts to approximately twelve thousand fatalities.
This massive loss brings with it the monumental task of rebuilding, if it can even be accomplished at this point.
ㅤ
On the other hand, the death toll of the Gaillia-Masrur alliance was just over one thousand five hundred. This number is not small by any means.
ㅤ
It was a major battle indeed.
The Lintrite Kingdom staked their national destiny, Gaillia waged their survival. Neither could afford to yield.
That’s all there is to it.
ㅤ
“Asuka of the [Hope] clan! You are a true hero!”
ㅤ
Count Doros roared, and the crowd erupted in cheers.
Asuka! Asuka! Her name echoed throughout.
ㅤ
The main street of Gaillia, in the midst of a victory celebration.
Choosing not to hold the ceremony at the castle had a political implication. It was to underscore the defensive nature of the war, fought to protect the lives and property of the people.
ㅤ
That’s why Count Doros, General Kytes, and even an unnamed soldier, were all comrades, not master and servant.
The rewards weren’t bestowed haughtily in the castle’s grand hall, but given out on the earth’s surface, where everyone stood on an equal footing.
ㅤ
“No! It was Lionel who threw me his sword in the crunch! Count gave his sword to Lionel! We won because of everyone’s efforts!”
ㅤ
Asuka responds energetically.
Well, this is another reason why we didn’t hold it in the castle.
ㅤ
Asuka knows nothing about etiquette towards the nobility. At a formal occasion, she would only embarrass herself.
It would be utterly unacceptable to let the person who made the greatest contribution embarrass herself. So what could be done? She could be kept kneeling without saying a word, or something like that.
And I would handle all the responses.
ㅤ
But that doesn’t seem right. And it wouldn’t look good if people thought the [Hope] clan leader was taking credit for a clan member’s accomplishments.
So, it was decided to laud her openly, as an equal comrade in every way.
ㅤ
In this kind of situation, Asuka can behave cheerfully as usual without feeling overly nervous.
The only advice I gave was not to call me “mom”.
ㅤ
“Now, everyone! Gaillia’s new hero, swordsman Asuka!”
ㅤ
Count Doros who had stepped forward, took the hand of the red-haired girl and raised it high.
There was an explosion of cheers.
The crowd that had gathered, the people peering out of their homes, they all shouted Asuka’s name.
ㅤ
“She’s young. Be careful not to let her become a pawn in political games.”
ㅤ
Said General Kytes, who stood next to me.
His gaze remained fixed on the scene before him, his hands clapping continuously.
He spoke softly, so only I could hear.
ㅤ
“I understand, General.”
ㅤ
Lifted as a hero, then discarded when she becomes inconvenient.
That’s not a story that suits Asuka.
If Count Doros tries to use her politically, I’ll take appropriate action.
ㅤ
With a resolve in my heart, I watched Asuka, who was charming the crowd with her charisma.
