𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟑𝟑𝟗: 𝟐𝟔𝐭𝐡 3
Siwoo clenched his teeth, barely suppressing the anger threatening to consume him as he took in the sorry state of his disciples.
Who could he be angry at? What could he be angry about?
Lo-an’s left arm was nowhere to be seen.
Yeo-hwa’s eye was wrapped in layers of bandages.
His younger brother, Si-joon, limped as if he had sustained a serious injury to his thigh.
All three had their cores completely depleted, and their haggard expressions and magic wavelengths told a clear story of the hardships they had endured.
Their clothes were stained with blood and torn to shreds.
“Ha. . .”
Siwoo swallowed a curse, a sigh escaping his lips as he fought to keep his emotions in check.
It felt like he would explode if anyone so much as touched him.
His fists clenched involuntarily.
His initial anger was directed at himself.
He knew it would take time to travel to the Otherworld.
After all, he knew better than anyone that ten years on Earth was equivalent to a hundred years in the Otherworld.
━’𝘐 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥’𝘷𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦.’━
The unification of the continent was completed in two days, just as Siwoo had predicted.
The process of conquest was akin to acceleration; once momentum was gained, it was difficult for anyone to stop it, especially since the troops under Siwoo’s command were of a different caliber than regular troops.
When the emperor of an empire, not just any general, personally fought on the front lines, there was no soldier who wouldn’t be inspired, no commander who wouldn’t surge with courage.
While it was good that they had achieved unification in just two days, the problem lay in how to return.
━’𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦. . . .’━
He had used Merlin’s artifacts and Mephistopheles’ demonic energy to travel to the Otherworld.
However, both of those would undoubtedly be gone when he returned.
Therefore, Siwoo had gathered all the artifacts from the empire and the continent.
Then, he had conceived a massive ritual that would cover an entire country and mobilized all the continent’s magicians, shamans, and elementals to refine and draw the ritual.
To use just one piece of magic, they consumed half of the magic stone deposits on the continent.
In the end, he was able to create a portal connecting Earth and the Otherworld and return to Earth with his army.
Siwoo had anticipated that the entire process would take about a year and expected it to be a month or two in Earth time.
“I came back sooner than I originally planned.”
Thanks to the hard work of his subordinates, they had completed the portal in far less than a year and returned.
However, the sight that greeted him upon his return to Korea was somewhat different from what Siwoo had imagined.
Buildings on the verge of collapse, streets devoid of light.
The eerie silence of a deserted downtown.
And the palpable demonic energy surging throughout the country.
Of course, he could sense a few “survivors” scattered about.
It seemed they were hiding somewhere deep underground or in the back of buildings, desperately trying to avoid something.
Siwoo searched the streets and found the most recently published newspaper.
An article caught his eye about how creatures that had emerged through Merlin’s “Dimension Gate” were wreaking havoc around the world.
“Ha.”
He flipped through the newspaper and came across more peculiar articles.
〈Whose side is ‘Misteltein’ on?〉
〈World’s No. 1 Hunter betrays humanity. . .〉
〈Hunters bowing to the Demon King〉
〈. . .Min Siwoo, the Hunter, becomes the most wanted criminal. . .〉
He chuckled.
“They’re really going all out.”
It was comical.
Of course, it was understandable that the demon race wouldn’t just sit still after 〈Pandemonium〉 had collapsed.
【𝐇𝐞𝐲! 𝐈’𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨! 𝐈’𝐦 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰!】
Pre exclaimed, pointing to an article in his arms.
“What?”
Upon closer inspection, Siwoo noticed Pre’s figure in the corner of the picture where he was featured.
He was really small.
【𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐦 𝐈 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨? 𝐌𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐧𝐞!】
“. . .Can you just draw something on it with your wings?”
Siwoo found Pre’s words more absurd than the newspaper article.
The electronic clock on the convenience store wall flickered, displaying the current date.
“The 25th. . . No, it’s the 26th since it’s dawn.”
The world had changed in less than a month.
And it had changed for the worse.
Should he blame “Misteltein” or the other Hunters for failing to stop them?
No, he couldn’t do that.
They were undoubtedly fighting and bleeding somewhere even now.
“Rinoa.”
“Yes, Your Majesty!”
Rinoa, adorned with golden wings, replied softly.
“Order your subordinates to search for places where strong magic or demonic energy is detected.”
“I will do as you command!”
She summoned vampires and elementals and relayed Siwoo’s orders to them.
Vampires and elementals could both see at night as clearly as they could during the day, and since they were beings made of magic, they were also excellent at sensing magic, making them perfect for this task.
Thanks to them, Siwoo was able to obtain the information he wanted in less than 30 minutes.
“Ha. . . Goddamn it.”
But when he arrived at the point where the magic and demonic energy collided, he was met with an appalling sight.
His disciples, lying on the verge of death, and devils gleefully toying with them.
Siwoo instantly killed the two devils, leaving the one who appeared to be their leader alive.
He didn’t have the luxury of being merciful or seeking revenge in the conventional sense.
His priority was to remove them from his sight.
“So. . . What have you done now?”
Siwoo asked, grabbing the devil by the hair.
The devil spat crimson blood from its mouth and glared at Siwoo.
『You. . .You’ll regret this. . .』
“Still spouting nonsense.”
Siwoo let out a soft sigh and spoke to the large man who had approached him.
“Take care of him, Tirkan.”
“As you wish, Your Majesty!!”
Tirkan, the tiger chieftain, bared his sharp teeth and stepped toward the devil.
He placed his hands on the pointed horns on its head.
『L-Let go. . .!!』
“That’s not what His Majesty ordered. Don’t resist, it’ll hurt more!!”
Tirkan grinned and twisted the devil’s horns with his bare hands.
『KyaaaK!! Stoooop!!』
The devil’s spine-chilling scream echoed through the desolate city center.
“Whew, that’s enough.”
The scream stopped when Tirkan ripped off the devil’s horns, creating two large holes in its skull.
“Your Majesty, may I keep these horns as a souvenir?”
Tirkan asked Siwoo, looking down at the horns in his hands.
“Do as you wish.”
Siwoo replied curtly and approached his disciples.
Their emaciated and haggard appearances.
Pity welled up from deep within his heart.
He hesitated to meet their eyes, feeling a sense of guilt as if it were his fault.
Unsure of how to face them, Siwoo simply stared at their wounds.
He could see gruesome scars and bandages that hadn’t even stopped bleeding yet.
“Jeez, I told you not to go running around.”
Siwoo blurted out an unwarranted complaint.
A wry smile crept across his face.
And his disciples felt the same way as they looked at Siwoo.
“Hyung!!”
Si-joon, his younger brother, was the first to move toward Siwoo.
He limped noticeably.
“Don’t go around saying you’re my younger brother. You just get beaten up all the time.”
“Ah. . .I was so worried about you, so I rushed over. . .”
“Who’s worried about whom, you punk?”
Siwoo stroked his brother’s head, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly.
“Master!!”
At that moment, Kang Yeo-hwa ran up and hugged Siwoo tightly.
“Why did you come back so late!”
“Sorry, things happened. You don’t seem to be. . .doing so well.”
“. . .Master. You’re safe.”
Lo-an approached, letting out a sigh of relief.
“I have much to tell you. The situation itself is not optimistic. I’m sure you have much to say as well. . .”
Lo-an paused for a moment, looking at the many alien beings behind Siwoo.
Somehow, each of them possessed immense magic power.
In particular, those who appeared to be the leaders of each race seemed to be as strong as “Misteltein.”
“Then let’s exchange information.”
“Yes, I understand.”
“But before that.”
Siwoo glanced at his disciples and held out his palm.
Bzzzzt!!
A dazzling flash of light erupted from him, and a brilliant golden magic circle enveloped them warmly.
Min Si-joon’s shattered thigh, Kang Yeo-hwa’s eye, and Lo-an’s severed left arm were instantly healed on the spot.
“As expected of His Majesty!”
Rinoa said with a broad smile, her flattery dripping with insincerity.
Siwoo stared at Rinoa with a stoic expression.
“W-Why are you looking at me like that, Your Majesty?”
“Somehow, everything you say sounds fake.”
“What?! How could you say that when I respect you so much! If you were to pick the most loyal subject in the world, I would be number one!”
“Maybe Kikl, but you. . .Don’t you have any conscience?”
As Kikl, who was standing nearby, nodded in agreement, Rinoa puffed out her cheeks and pouted.
“Master. . . Your magic power has grown stronger?”
Kang Yeo-hwa, who had just removed the bandages from her face, asked Siwoo.
It was impossible to cast such a high-level ritual with no preparatory movements, let alone on three people at once.
Regardless of anything else, the amount of magic power he had exerted was already comparable to that of the top Hunters.
“Has it?”
Siwoo muttered to himself in response to Kang Yeo-hwa’s question.
“Well. . .It’s possible. I haven’t just been playing around, after all.”
🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸
The demons’ fierce attacks only intensified.
During the day, an overwhelming number of demonic soldiers and devils would invade, and at night, “that” would come out.
Overcoming the numerical disadvantage was difficult, but the internal divisions were an even greater challenge.
Wasn’t the government trying to designate an SSS-rank Hunter as a wanted criminal or regulate “Misteltein” and the 〈Hunter Association〉?
It got to the point where they started to think that their greatest enemy wasn’t the Demon King but the UN Security Council.
Furthermore, numerous large corporations and people in power were siding with them.
Once the media and various IT companies deliberately began to criticize Min Siwoo, “Misteltein,” HSIU, and the Hunters, public opinion quickly turned against them.
Everything that was happening was orchestrated by the “Bilderberg Club.”
People stopped trusting each other, and the solidarity between nations was easily broken.
The values, balance, and progress that humanity had built were teetering precariously like a candle in the wind.
“Whew.”
Choi Dae-soo exhaled a puff of cigarette smoke.
He hadn’t had a drink of water in two days, and his mouth felt parched and dry.
He stared blankly at the desolate and shattered Mongolian plains.
There was no sign of the situation improving.
How much longer would this madness continue?
His gaze returned to the plains.
Once lush and green, they were now soaked in blood and corpses, resembling a crimson lake.
“Damn it, I could really go for a whiskey.”
His voice, low and raspy, drifted through the air like grains of sand.
The sound of a gentle breeze swept across the plains and touched his cheek.
He wondered how long this peace would last.
Choi Dae-soo moved his blood-sticky hand to flick the ash off his cigarette.
“Were you here?”
A large man approached him and spoke.
“Oh, it’s Uljibataar.”
Choi Dae-soo let out a soft sigh as he looked at the other man.
“I’m glad to see you’re safe.”
“Likewise—You look terrible.”
Uljibataar had large wounds all over his body and was wrapped in bandages from head to toe.
“I almost died last night when the devils attacked.”
“Just hold on a little longer. It will. . .end someday.”
“. . .Yes.”
Choi Dae-soo licked his dry lips.
But even his tongue was dry.
『Hahahaha! I found the humans!』
At that moment, an unfamiliar voice echoed through the air.
In the past, they would have been startled, but Choi Dae-soo and Uljibataar calmly and mechanically reached for their weapons.
“I guess we’ll have to quench our thirst with its blood.”
“I’ll join you.”
