The Hero of Regression – The Talentless Boy Vows to Protect His Childhood Friend, the Female Hero, This Time Around – Chapter 30

𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐞

Several weeks have passed since we set out on our quest to defeat the Demon King.

While continuing to hone our teamwork, we rode on two of the finest horses provided to us by the Kingdom, aiming for the Elf Village via the shortest route.

The distance from the capital of Sirius Kingdom to the Elf Village would normally take two months by a standard horse carriage. However, thanks to the strength of the horses pulling this two-horse carriage and Rin’s Healing Magic that fully restores us whenever we get tired, our travel time is significantly reduced.

As we approach the vicinity where we expect to see the Elf Village, I’ve been learning how to handle the horses from Auntie Elle on the coach box, and refreshing my knowledge about the Elf Village.

By the way, usually Stella sits next to me and teaches me how to handle the horses. But sometimes, like today, I end up with someone else.

I remember hearing something about the importance of variety, but I’m not exactly sure.

“The symbol of the Elf Village is undoubtedly the 『Divine Tree』 that towers at the center of the village.

It’s a gigantic tree said to have existed long before even the battles between the heroes and the Demon King began.

Some say it’s a tree planted by a god, and it possesses mysterious powers.”

Auntie Elle, for what seems like the umpteenth time, continues her explanation.

When Auntie Elle talks about this Divine Tree, it’s as if she’s an enthusiastic follower of the Holy Church, trying to recite scripture.

I can sense a deep reverence when she speaks about the Divine Tree.

According to what I’ve heard, the Divine Tree is the object of worship for all Elves.

I may not have much interest in religion, but if I hear about the characteristics of the Divine Tree that will follow, I can’t help but think, “I can see why one would want to worship it.”

“The mysterious power possessed by the Divine Tree.

Within the range of the Divine Tree’s power, it greatly weakens the abilities of those belonging to the realm of demons and creatures of magic, such as monsters.

Thanks to this power, which we call the ‘Divine Tree Protection,’ Elves have survived to this day, despite being one of the least numerous among races

Of course, the fact that Elves have many powerful wizards among them is also one of the significant reasons.”

Auntie Elle has a smug look on her face for some reason.

Is it the power of the Divine Tree she’s proud of, or is it the power of the Elves?

The answer is both.

From what I’ve heard, the power of the Elves is truly formidable.

“Elves may be few in number, but each individual is born with strong powers and a long lifespan.

Although they are not physically strong, their magical capabilities are unparalleled compared to other races.

Elven wizards who have lived for hundreds of years and accumulated experience have power that rivals even those with divine protection.”

Individuals without divine protection can’t defeat those who possess it.

Elves overturn this common sense, albeit under specific conditions.

It’s nothing short of incredible.

“In addition, compared to other races, more Elves are born with magical divine protection.

The power of an Elf and the power of divine protection, when someone possesses both, they have the potential to reach the level of a Holy Warrior.

The chief who rules over such Elves has the 『Sage’s Divine Protection』 just like me, and is a Holy Warrior.

Their overall combat capability is by no means inferior to other races.”

Auntie Elle stands proudly, her nose held high.

As a former chief, she must feel a sense of pride for once leading the Elves.

The population of the elven village is in the tens of thousands.

Though the number of actual combatants seems to be less than ten thousand, they certainly possess strength that is not inferior to other human races.

Considering the power of the Divine Tree, it makes sense that Elf Village is called one of the strongest fortresses among cities of the world.

However, Elf Village is currently under attack by one of the Four Heavenly Kings.

In other words, it suggests that the Demon King’s Army could confront all of Elf Village with just one of the Four Heavenly Kings.

Undoubtedly, if they have to fight such a monster, it will be the most intense battle in history.

I must stay vigilant.

While sharpening my fighting spirit, I arrived at a distance where I could see Elf Village.

A gigantic tree, presumably the Divine Tree, is visible.

At the same time, the menacing figures threatening the village are also visible.

“There it is. . . . . .!”

What I see is a horde of dragons rushing towards Elf Village.

At a glance, it seems like there are at least a thousand dragons.

Most of them are Wyverns, considered the lowest tier among dragons, but there are also a few that seem to be on par with the Dragon Zombie I couldn’t defeat before.

Even Wyverns, being the lowest tier among dragons, are still formidable in the grand scheme of monsters.

Such beings are attacking the Elf Village in groups.

It would usually be a hopeless sight.

However, the Elves are living up to their reputation as a strong race.

Without faltering against the swarm of dragons, they surround the village with a barrier spell and launch various attack spells from within, effectively reducing the number of dragons.

The dragons also seem sluggish.

It appears that the Divine Tree Protection is functioning well.

“They’re doing well. . . . . .! Stella! Rin! Blade-boy! Time for battle! Get ready!”

“””Understood!”””

Auntie Elle opens the carriage door and calls out to Stella and the others, then turns her gaze towards the swarm of dragons and speaks to me.

“Al-boy, keep the carriage running at full speed. Can you do it?”

“Of course. So, what will Auntie Elle do?”

“I’ll snipe the dragons with my magic from here.

That way, the dragons will notice us and some will come this way.

Make sure you’re ready for combat, Al-boy.”

“Understood.”

I can feel the excitement in my arms.

I manipulate the reins with the horsemanship I’ve learned since the journey began, increasing the speed of the carriage.

The horses, worthy of being part of the Hero’s Party, charge fearlessly even after seeing the swarm of dragons.

Auntie Elle seems satisfied as she glances at us, and begins to focus on casting her magic.

“O spirits that govern the laws of magic. Raging flames, swirling waters, rumbling earth, howling winds, freezing chill, roaring thunder, destructive darkness, and the light that repels evil. Under the name of the Sage, combine and blend to manifest as a mighty single force. Burn, wash away, crush, rampage, freeze, roar, destroy, and shine.”

Magic incantations are woven from Auntie Elle’s lips.

It’s a long and complex chant, on a different level from the basic Healing Magic that I can barely use.

Auntie Elle is a wizard of the highest caliber, said to be at the pinnacle as a 『Great Sage』.

That means she’s the greatest wizard among all races.

Naturally, there’s no way she can’t use advanced, chantless magic.

However, she chooses to chant for a reason.

Because it increases the spell’s power.

Moreover, the magic Auntie Elle is about to use is her ultimate technique, said to be the most powerful in terms of sheer force among all her spells.

A complete incantation unleashes the Great Sage’s most potent magic.

As for what kind of unbelievable outcome will occur, I can’t even begin to imagine.

And now, it is unleashed.

“『Judgment of all Attributes』!”

The unleashed phenomenon from Auntie Elle’s staff was an extraordinary aurora of destruction.

Even the massive breath attack previously released by the Dragon Zombie paled in comparison to this overwhelming power and scale.

It engulfed a group of dragons, and despite the attack coming from such a distant range, it obliterated half of the dragons in an instant.

It even managed to defeat entities on par with the Dragon Zombie.

This firepower is beyond what humanity should possess…

Is this the power of the Great Sage?

“””Gyaaaaaaa!!!”””

But as expected, it seems the target has shifted to us with that single blow, and the majority of the remaining dragons are now flying toward us.

At this rate, they’ll likely get close to us faster than Auntie Elle can release her next attack.

Also, it seems their movement improved visibly, perhaps because they left the effect range of Divine Tree Protection while in transit.

It looks like they won’t let us defeat them while they’re weakened.

“Well, let’s do this.”

The first battle as the Hero’s Party.

We face an overwhelming swarm of dragons filling the sky, and presumably, the Four Heavenly Kings who command them.

Honestly, they don’t seem like opponents we should be facing in our first battle, but they are foes we’ll have to defeat sooner or later anyway.

So let’s defeat them now.

I’ll show them the full extent of my training.

And so, the first battle that marks the beginning of our war with the Demon King’s Army commences.
