When he opened the Demon Realm gate and came out, he found himself at the end of the Western Continent. It had taken him a year to get here thanks to that. He could have gotten here sooner, but he wasn’t in a hurry. He had spent his life on the battlefield, so he wanted to experience life on the continent.

He had seen many people and witnessed their lives.

He had been to several countries and made some connections along the way.

The continent had changed a lot since the invasion of the Demon Realm, known as Death’s Road.

Half of the continent’s population had perished because of the demons, so in order to avoid being taken over, one needed to be strong.

If you were strong, you could seize what you wanted.

The continent seemed similar to how it was before, but a new order had been established.

He had a lot on his mind during that year.

He came to one conclusion: he would blend in with their way of life.

Luckily, it was something he was good at.

But all of that was within the domain of Baron Gerkinde.

He didn’t want his existence to be known to the continent or the kingdom because he wanted to live a normal life.

That’s why he had to kill the men after they tried to take his life. Nobles had that authority. However, he didn’t want to commit murder on his first day back home. Besides, he hadn’t met his master yet.

“Are you the one in charge of these soldiers?”

Ayr ignored Krimson, who had kept his mouth shut, and asked Fiden, who was standing behind him. The ferocity in his eyes had disappeared.

Everyone’s gaze quickly turned to Fiden. They wanted someone to end this situation, and Krimson felt the same way. Fiden nodded slightly after feeling their gazes.

“Y-Yes.”

“Then tell Governor Hitterson.”

Ayr took out a pendant from his pocket and extended it towards Fiden. Fiden was surprised and looked at it. The pendant had an image of two crossed swords with flames engraved on it.

It was the same symbol as the one on the flag waving on the castle wall.

Fiden’s eyes widened as he recognized the pendant.

“Tell him that master’s disciple has returned.”

“!!!”

That’s right.

It was the pendant mentioned in the will of the previous head of the family.

The successor to the Baron Gerkinde, who had left home, had truly returned.

The day Ayr returned,

Governor Hitterson, who had served the Baron Gerkinde for over thirty years, shed tears of joy, and Marwen, the chamberlain who had been with him for just as long, smiled broadly.

No other proof was needed. They recognized Ayr immediately as if they had cut through the ten years of separation.

“Young Master!”

“You’re back.”

Ayr nodded as he felt Marwen’s warm embrace. The emotional grip on him grew stronger. It felt good in its own way. A smile naturally formed on his face.

“It’s good to see you.”

“Haha, yes, it is! Where have you been all this time without sending us any news?”

Governor Hitterson, who was standing behind them, had tears in his eyes as he looked at Ayr. He was just as emotional and sentimental as he remembered. Ayr and his master had liked him despite his temperament, which didn’t suit his role as the governor responsible for the baron family’s finances.

“It doesn’t look like you two have settled things yet.”

“Huh?”

“No, it’s just that. . .”

The two, who had been flustered for a moment, changed their expressions. Hitterson chuckled, and Marwen’s face lit up.

In Hitterson and Marwen’s memories, his face, full of playfulness as a child teasing them that they should get married soon.

Along with that, the image of Gerkinde in those days, which shone more brightly than it did now.

“Let’s take it slow. Where is Master?”

“. . . .”

At Ayr’s question, both of them closed their mouths as if they had made a promise. Governor Hitterson spoke, holding back his emotions.

“According to the baron’s will, he is enshrined at Mount Felin.”

“My master.”

The tombs of the former Barons Gerkinde are to be found on Rowan’s Hill to the right of the outer castle. And Mount Felin, as Governor Hitterson refers to it, is located behind the outer castle.

A place from which the Baron’s outer castle is fully visible.

And it is a place filled with memories of him and his master.

“I’d like to see Master first.”
