Rebirth 60: Getting Rich from Hunting in the Deep Mountains – Chapter 2

Ch 2: Into The Mountains

After eating a bowl of Cornmeal Paste, Zhou Cang had recovered most of his strength and was now staring blankly at the calendar hanging on the wall of the kang.

“1960!”

He had actually returned to this era where people could starve to death. Just now, the Little Girl had been watching him drink the porridge with longing eyes. Zhou Cang wanted to share it with her, but she refused no matter what. In the end, he almost forced her to take two sips.

“Is there no Grain at home?” Zhou Cang couldn’t help asking.

“There isn’t any left. After this meal, I’ll go to Second Uncle Zhang’s house to borrow some Grain,” Zhang Yue said softly. She really didn’t want to go to Second Uncle Zhang’s house, but after all, he was a Relative, and he couldn’t just watch Brother Fugui starve to death, could he? The other people in the Village wouldn’t care about them.

“No way!” Zhou Cang remembered what he had heard in the Coffin. Letting Zhang Yue go to borrow Grain would be like a lamb entering a tiger’s mouth.

“I’ll think of a way!” Zhou Cang already knew that this was the Khingan Mountain Area in Northeast China. There were many Wild Animals in this place, and with his ability, getting some Game Meat would be very easy.

Moreover, the original Zhang Fugui’s physique was far superior to ordinary people, coupled with his own Wilderness Survival Experience. The Deep Mountain Forest was a dead end for others, but for him, it was a storage warehouse!

Zhou Cang had already made up his mind. Since God had given him this opportunity, he would cherish it and take good care of the Little Girl for Zhang Fugui. Maybe this was the task God had given him, it was hard to say.

“Um, Zhang Yue…”

“What is it, Brother Fugui?”

“You wait for me at home, I’ll go into the Mountain to get something back!” Zhou Cang said.

“Don’t go!” Zhang Yue refused as soon as she heard that. “Last time you almost died going into the Mountain. You even ended up in a Coffin.” The Young Girl’s attitude was firm.

“With your silly brain, what can you hunt? Don’t end up feeding the wolves!”

Zhou Cang couldn’t help but chuckle at the Little Girl’s fierce look. “Don’t worry, my brain is fine now!”

“What?” Zhang Yue was stunned. She had been a little strange too, but she hadn’t thought too much about it. Brother Fugui was indeed different after waking up this time. Before, his brain was damaged by the fever, but this time, after almost freezing to death, his brain was healed?

“Then I’ll go with you!” The Little Girl looked stubborn.

“No, if I encounter danger alone, I can run. I can’t run with you!” Zhou Cang said.

“Don’t worry, I won’t go too far. I’ll definitely be back before dark!” In the winter in Northeast China, it gradually gets dark at three or four in the afternoon.

Zhang Yue knew that if she went into the Mountain with him, she would definitely be a burden, so she didn’t say anything more. If Brother Fugui was gone, then she would just go with him.

She found the Equipment her father used for Hunting and handed it to Zhou Cang. It was a Hunting Bow, seven or eight arrows, and a Sharp Knife about forty centimeters long, as well as two bundles of thick and Thin Hemp Rope and a Spear.

With just these few things, Fugui’s Father had become a famous Hunter in the surrounding villages, but unfortunately, he eventually died under the Tusk of a Wild Boar.

There is a saying in Northeast China: first the Wild Boar, second the bear, and third the Tiger.

The Wild Boar isn’t very intelligent, but it is very reckless. It usually likes to roll in the mud, and if it’s itchy, it will rub against a Pine Tree, covering itself in Pine Tree sap before rolling in the dirt again.

The already thick-skinned fellow is like he’s covered in a suit of armor, and this thing’s agility isn’t low either; it can even be said to have extremely high Speed!

So even bears or Tigers are unwilling to confront an adult Wild Boar head-on!

Zhou Cang dressed neatly and set off, relying on the original Fugui’s memory of the Mountain Forest in his mind. Moreover, at Zhang Yue’s strong request, he had also tied a Quilt and carried it on his back.

If there was no harvest today, the two of them would run out of Grain tomorrow!

Along the way, he used his Knife to make marks on the trees along the way. This was his way back, and he couldn’t be careless. Whenever he saw Rabbit or Wild Chicken footprints, he would make a few Trap Sleeves with Thin Hemp Rope, so that any small animal that stepped on them would be trapped.

From time to time, he would also swing his Knife to cut off Tree Branches, firstly to clear the way for himself, and secondly to familiarize himself with this body. Zhou Cang was pleasantly surprised to find that this body was not much worse than his previous life in terms of strength and agility. With a little force in his legs, he could dart out several meters in the Mountain Forest. It was simply a natural jungle physique!

This was the body of an untrained 19-year-old young man! It was almost comparable to the physique he had developed through years of training and Battlefield combat in his previous life. Unbelievable! Could this be the Talent of a Mountain Village boy?

He moved forward while thinking randomly and looking around.

Suddenly, a Squirrel darted across a Tree Branch in front of him. Zhou Cang immediately perked up. Squirrels were Northeast Squirrels, and a lot of their fur could be used to make coats, or they could be exchanged for money.

However, the most important thing for Zhou Cang at the moment was that having Squirrels meant there was food. Although there wasn’t much meat on a Squirrel, it liked to store Pine Nut Hazelnuts and other nuts in tree holes or bury them in the ground. Zhou Cang was going to raid its Nest!

The Squirrel darted in the trees, and Zhou Cang chased on the ground. After following for a while, he indeed found a few handfuls of Pine Nut Hazelnuts in a tree hole. These things were oily, and eating a few of them after roasting could satisfy hunger. For people in this era who lacked oil in their bellies, they were definitely good things.

After taking them, he continued to move forward. After turning around a Mountain Ridge, Zhou Cang looked at the Mountain Hollow not far away. This place was sunny, sheltered from the wind, and full of shrubs and weeds. It was very suitable for nesting. There must be something inside!

He looked at the terrain, put the Knife back into the Knife Sheath at his waist, took the Bow and Arrow off his back and held it in his left hand, and held the Spear in his right hand, quietly approaching from the side.

From this high vantage point, he could clearly see the Mountain Hollow. A group of Wild Chickens actually lived in a patch of dry, fallen artemisia grass!

The Wild Chickens also had gray feathers, similar in color to the artemisia grass. It was really not easy to spot them if you didn’t look carefully. It looked like this group of Wild Chickens was huddled together to sunbathe and sleep!

Although the Distance was less than twenty meters, if he shot with a Bow and Arrow, even if he hit, he would only be able to hit one. If the Wild Chicken was injured and struggled, the others would definitely be startled away.

Zhou Cang put down the Bow and Arrow, the Spear, and the Satchel. Except for the Knife at his waist, he unloaded all his Equipment, opened the Quilt, and approached the Wild Chickens little by little, holding the corners of the Quilt in both hands.

He spent a full half an hour covering the dozen or so meters, finally getting close. He aimed at a few Wild Chickens that were close together, raised the Quilt, and pounced on them!

A large Cotton Quilt fell from the sky, followed by Zhou Cang, who was 1.9 meters tall, trapping seven or eight Wild Chickens underneath all at once!

Several unlucky ones were crushed to death by Zhou Cang on the spot, and the remaining ones that were flapping around were knocked unconscious by a few punches through the Quilt!

He lifted the Quilt and saw a brightly colored rooster and eight hens. He had actually caught nine in one fell swoop!

He snapped the necks of the Wild Chickens one by one, then tied them with Hemp Rope and hung them on the Spear. Unexpectedly, he had such a big harvest just after entering the Mountain. Zhou Cang carried the Wild Chickens and prepared to go home.

Thinking that Zhang Yue had hardly eaten anything in the morning, he now just wanted to bring the Wild Chickens back as soon as possible so that the Little Girl could eat meat and drink soup!
