My Children Swarm the Cosmos – Chapter 6

Haber Heydrich

With deep-set eyes and an intellectual impression, he was a secretary assigned to Experimental Subject 412 of Chimeraz Project 5th Generation, Darwin Foundation.

He is watching the final preliminary selection with some of the research team of Chimeraz Project, and the secretary team of the top 10 experimental subjects.

A researcher asked him.

“Mr. Haber, how does Subject 412 distinguish chimeraz? It seems that there are many types of creatures he handles.”

Then Haber glances around the secretary team with a wary look.

“Can I tell you about that here?”

“That’s okay. Only one will survive after this preliminary selection anyway.”

“Exactly. Everyone is curious. Isn’t Subject 412 an experimental subject that everyone is watching?”

Each of the top 10 has one secretary. And the information about each experimental subject is not shared among the secretaries.

This is because more information than necessary can be a weakness of the experimental subject they are in charge of.

“Well. . . .”

“The preliminary selection is not over until the last one survives. Can you just tell me?”

It was what the secretary of Experimental Subject 470 just said.

Ranked 2nd in the 5th generation experimental subjects, Subject 470 is a strong competitor of Subject 412.

Naturally, there was a kind of competition among these 10 secretaries, each with an experimental subject. To analyze, explore, and give advice to the experimental subject they are in charge of.

However, all of those will be over after this preliminary selection.

“How about we just share it, Mr. Haber?”

“Yes, let’s do that.”

Haber also agrees because he is curious about the information of other experimental subjects. He points one of the research team with his eyes.

“Do you have data that summarizes the collective consciousness of Subject 412?”

“Oh, should we do that?”

“Let’s see the collective consciousness data of each one of our experimental subjects. I’ll open mine first.”

No one disagreed with Haber’s suggestion.

Soon, those gathered here can see the collected data about Experimental Subject 412 on a large screen.

「Cellular control 98 points」

「Herd control 100 points」

「Individual combat power 97 points」

「Creativity 92 points」

「Memory 100 points」

「Comprehension 94 points」

「Average 96.8 points」

「Overall ranking 1st」

“Wait, herd control is 100 points?! Then how many can he control at once?”

“Why is his memory like that? Are you saying he remembers everything in detail?”

“You are surprised that his herd control and memory are 100, but look at his cellular control and individual combat power. At that level, can’t he win alone even without a herd?”

“That black armor is crazy. He sucked all the titanium resources buried in the ground and made a tougher armor. He has never even touched titanium, has he? And if he can do that on the spot, that means. . . .”

“He can apply the resources in the field to his army as well. The Chimeraz under Subject 412 will probably be born with harder shells and sharper teeth.”

“They are all experimental subjects born the same way, but why is only Subject 412 like this. . . .”

Regardless of their surprise, the following data is displayed on the large screen.

「Subject 412 collective consciousness chimeraz distinction definition」

「Hounz」

「*assault-type *small-sized *ground force」

「Genetic Ancestor: Pitbull Terrier」

It was not compiled by the research team or Haber. Experimental Subject 412 defined it himself to distinguish his chimeraz.

“He handles four kinds of chimeraz. . . .”

“He remembers the genetic information of the four chimeraz he created? In terms of information volume, it will easily exceed hundreds of gigabytes. . .?”

“They already have a systematic classification criterion of weapons, just like a artificial human army. Subject 412 is a truly amazing experimental subject. Mr. Haber, who takes care of such an experimental subject, is also great.”

Haber shrugs his shoulders in a good mood.

“That guy sometimes seems so much better than humans that it’s scary. Haha.”

🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸

━𝐎𝐨𝐨𝐨𝐨𝐨𝐡𝐡𝐡!

The approaching Hounz pack is hunting down the fleeing artificial humans.  They hunt without discriminating between the civilians that have no intention of fighting or the police who have simple firearms.

𝘉𝘈𝘔! 𝘉𝘈𝘔!

The artificial human police fire their firearms lined up between buildings.

𝘛𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘵!

The police humanoids and police drones included in the police force also shoot.

Still, the dozens of Hounz do not stop. There isn’t the firepower to stop them here.

Their carapaces made of titanium and carbon resources repel bullets of ordinary caliber. Bullets with a slightly larger caliber barely pierce the carapace, but that’s all.  The police force doesn’t have the firepower to pierce the strong carapace and deliver a fatal blow.

In no time at all, Experimental Subject 412’s Hounds pack is biting the artificial humans, tearing the humanoids apart with their claws, and knocking down the drones with their tails.

In this way, after chasing away the police force, Subject 412’s Hounz pack comes to occupy part of the southeast side of the artificial human city.

🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸

The children I sent have occupied the southeast outskirts of the city.  In the process, the 48 Hounz defeated 8 police humanoids, 16 police artificial humans, and 6 police drones.  43 Hounz remained after the battle.

That means I killed 30 of the enemies for the loss of 5.

This means that the titanium resources that I experimentally introduced this time were effective in dealing with the enemy firepower.

Therefore, unless a better material is found, I will have to actively provide titanium to my children.

‘𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘣𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘬.’

‘𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘸𝘰 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨.’

It would be convenient to order them to block the path so that the artificial humans can’t escape from the occupied block, but they don’t understand such orders.

Even if they understand my intentions, they don’t know the specific methods implied by the intention of the order.

Since there is no individual yet that can act as the ‘commander’ that I can use, I have to pick them one by one like this and give them easy-to-understand orders.  Like manually piloting them one by one.

‘𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵, 𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘣𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘬.’

‘𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘺 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘺.’

Fighting the police force is just the beginning.

We have to prepare for the artificial human army of the city that will come someday.  In order to do that, we’ll need more resources and more troops.

‘𝘠𝘰𝘶, 𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘩.’

It’s a training ground built to look like a real city.  The restaurant has real food, the stores have things sold in real stores, and the pharmacies have medicines sold in real pharmacies.

That’s why I told them to put those medicines in their stomachs and bring them back.

‘𝘠𝘰𝘶, 𝘨𝘰 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘫𝘦𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘶𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬.’

It doesn’t matter what it is.

Any new element, new mineral, or new chemical structure spread throughout the city is a power called a resource to me.  If we analyze and learn all of them, they’ll definitely be helpful someday.

The southeast side of the city is handled with orders like that, and I personally grow the colony.

The withered forest collapses on the barren soil.  When the forest collapses, the black tentacles spread like blood vessels on the ground move and neatly break down and absorb even the remains of the dead forest.

Then, the black tentacles spread like blood vessels continue to grow from the colony and connect densely.  The hives, which are structures independent of the colony, are connected to the colony in this way.

𝘙𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘦. . . 𝘙𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘦. . .

Skeletunnels grow beneath the colony’s ground.  They are living tissue tunnels inspired by the concept of trench warfare in military science books.

The crocodile-snout-like entrances protruding from the ground accept and send out my children.  The dark passage connected to the ground like a tunnel is supported by a thick exoskeleton and is capable of withstanding bombardment and shelling from the ground.

The Skeletunnels extending from the colony and the hives to the ground emerge from the asphalt on the southeast outskirts of the city.

When the snout of the Skeletunnel created there opens, my children can move between the colony and the city relatively safely and quickly through the snout.

𝘚𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘤𝘩. . .!

𝘚𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘤𝘩!

Maybe because the natural environment of this training ground is as big as the city, wild animals sometimes appear around the colony.  Just now, the Puker installed around the hive melted a wild boar.

Pukers are very effective defensive structures against organisms on the ground with an oxygen atmosphere.  They look like sturdy sea urchins or octopuses, and inside their enormous heads are powerful digestive fluids and microorganisms harmless to chimera.

They’re always in the same place, and when anything not belonging to my collective consciousness steps on the black blood vessels within a 90-meter radius, they react by spraying the digestive fluid they contain like a water gun.

If the digestive fluid melts even a little bit of the victim’s skin, the microorganisms dig in there and quickly devour the living tissue, discharging water and acid.

Gurgle. . .

The melted corpse is covered by the wriggling tentacles on the ground.  It is absorbed as a resource for the colony.

Chimeraz in the form of structures such as colonies, hives, Skeletunnels, and Pukers are all connected to the black tentacles that act as blood vessels.

The entire colony reacts to external stimuli and metabolizes as if it were a single organism.

I continued to expand the colony to the northwest.  While most of the subjects were fighting over colony to take over the natural environment, I focused on conquering the city with the feeling that I was competing with myself.

Soon, the southeast outskirts of the city became part of the colony.  Buildings, vehicles, and roads were bound by black tentacles and covered with living tissue.

𝘎𝘶𝘭𝘱, 𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘱, 𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘱. . .!

The Hounz pack finds the hidden artificial humans that the Hounz pack couldn’t find, and the hunting tentacles that pretend to be blood vessels skewer them one by one.

The colony grew every time the artificial humans screamed.

Hives are created inside buildings, and human weapons recovered from the police force are collected.  Large pockets that store biological matter settled haphazardly inside sturdy buildings.

Some of the Skeletunnel passages emerge from the ground altogether and grow in the form of wrapping around buildings like a boa constrictor or digging into them like an earthworm.

And on the living tissue spread to tall rooftops, I placed eyeballs larger than cars to expand my field of vision.

The number of individuals in my Hounz pack soon exceeded 300.

And I sent 15 Flies each to the south, southwest, west, northwest, north, northeast, and east for reconnaissance.

The Flies connected to me by waves collect visual information with their 3 simple eyes and thousands of compound eyes.  Of course, the Fly’s ability to fly is only effective in an environment with an atmosphere, and its combat ability is close to zero, but I don’t have any scouts better than them right now.

Since there’s no individual to organize and report the reconnaissance information from the Flies, I personally borrowed the eyes of the Flies to keep an eye on the situation.

And the strategy that I had tentatively ruled out when I started this preliminary selection was used against me by the enemy.

In a way, this was something that had been predicted before the preliminary selection even began.

I recall.

━𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝.  𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

I was told not to worry about the means and methods.  Therefore, as a strong candidate for 1st place, I had to assume more situations.

The mighty army of the artificial human city is advancing towards my colony with tanks and war machines at the forefront.

At the same time, multiple hostile Chimeraz packs were detected to the north and south of my colony.

That Chimeraz pack wasn’t unified as one species like my pack.

Chimeraz of various colors are trying to attack me by becoming one side on the orders of their owners.

Enemies are advancing from three directions.

Soon, their waves reach me.

━𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝟒𝟏𝟐. 𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐧𝐨 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬.  𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐥𝐲, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬.

━𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐛*𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐮𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐰𝐞’𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐠𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝟒𝟏𝟏 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭.  𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬.

━𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐛*𝐭𝐜𝐡.  𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡.  𝐄𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝. . .

Four subjects leading their own colonies and packs have joined forces to attack me.  At the same time, the army of the artificial human city is advancing.

I’m in a situation where I have to deal with five camps at once.

The number of my pack is absolutely insufficient.  If we clash with them like this, there’s no chance of winning.

━𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝟒𝟏𝟐.  𝐖𝐞’𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐛 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝’𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬.  𝐖𝐞’𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐩𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐭.

‘𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘵𝘳𝘺.  𝘐’𝘭𝘭 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘵.’

𝘙𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘦. . .!

I protruded bones from the wing bone part of my black armor.

━𝐈’𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐬.

‘𝘕𝘰 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥.’

I spread my wings and soared into the sky.

Their pack and my colony’s pack are fighting, all mixed together.  Screeches louder than gunshots or explosions make the battlefield feel like a war zone.  The enormous amount of blood and flesh paints the battlefield red like hell.

Several hostile Chimeraz look up and look at the sky.

The subjects here must be seeing what they’re seeing.

━𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. . .

‘𝘐’𝘭𝘭 𝘨𝘰 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶.’

There’s no time.  We have to do it quickly without taking too long.  The artificial human army is already stretched thin, so I can’t afford to lose any more troops.

So, the best solution in this situation is clear.

Avoid disadvantageous all-out warfare and a war of attrition with no future.

━𝐍𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩. . . 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐰, 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝?

‘𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘰𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘮𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘺.’

I’ll eliminate the leaders one by one and take their collective consciousness whole.

Then, the Chimeraz fighting under them and their colonies will all be absorbed by me.
