Oleg, the Paladin, told Oswald about how he could become a Demon Hunter, a paladin of the Order of the Holy Knights.
“Through alchemy and medicine, we have found a way to modify our bodies.”
A way to enhance the feeble human body to the point where it could stand against the demons of Chaos. The first step was to graft Ogre muscle tissue.
“Ogre muscle is far more resilient and elastic than human muscle, and it will greatly increase your strength.”
The second was a Troll’s heart.
“A Troll’s heart will infuse your blood with its regenerative and restorative powers.”
They had grafted the superior physical attributes of various monsters and beasts onto humans. And finally, they used alchemy to etch magical circuits onto their bodies.
More specifically, they plated their bones with the sacred metal Adamantium and etched permanent magical circuits onto them. This procedure was only performed on those who could not use magic.
“Now, to endure all of these procedures is to be chosen by the gods. Thus, we call it a ritual. You can still turn back now. What do you say? Do you still wish to join us?”
“I have a goal.”
“A goal?”
“You may not believe me, but. . . I had a dream. I saw the end of this world at the hands of the Five Great Evil Gods of Chaos. . . I will not stand idly by and wait for that day to come.”
More accurately, his goal was to prevent the apocalypse and return to his original world, but there was no need to mention that.
“There are few who know of the coming apocalypse. And to learn of it through a dream is a mystical thing indeed. Perhaps you are a part of the gods’ plan.”
A short while later, Oswald was led to the operating room. Screams echoed from within. He had steeled his resolve, but the atmosphere was intimidating enough to make him flinch.
“From here on, you must proceed alone. I pray that we will meet again.”
Leaving Oleg behind, he entered the operating room, where a doctor greeted him expectantly.
“Gestalt, I may say so myself, but. . . he is the best doctor in the Order. Now, remove all your clothes and lie down.”
Oswald removed all his clothes, even his Phoenix’s Bracelet, Plague Bracelet, and Druid’s Necklace.
“You seem to have quite the collection of trinkets.”
“These bracelets protect me from disease and curses. And this one is cursed by Pleg, one of the Five Great Evil Gods of Chaos.”
“Oh? The protection of the spirits and the curse of Pleg. . .”
“Yes, it is cursed magic. It increases my strength by inhaling the plague.”
“So you mean to say that this bracelet allows you to endure the plague’s curse and take only its strength?. . . Hahahahaha, it’s been a long time since I’ve met such a madman. If you can endure Pleg’s plague, you should be able to endure the procedure as well.”
“I also have the heart of a Troll King.”
“Oooooh? You had a Troll King’s heart transplanted?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“This is getting very interesting. If all goes well, I may be able to create a true masterpiece. Alright, lie down for now.”
With that, he used chains to bind Oswald’s entire body tightly. Judging by the magic circles etched into the chains, they seemed to be the kind that could not be easily broken, even with great strength.
“I will now administer anesthesia. . . Since you have the heart of a Troll King, you will not lose consciousness, but it should dull the pain somewhat.”
. . . . . .”
In other words, the Troll King’s heart was actually a hindrance to the anesthesia.
One. . .
“The pain will be considerable, but if you can endure it, you will surely leave this place alive.”
And so the procedure began. . .
Gestalt began by cutting open Oswald’s skin and examining his muscle tissue. He gasped in admiration at Oswald’s superior muscle tissue, which did not look human at all. It was on par with Ogre muscle.
Gestalt decided to leave his muscle tissue intact and fuse Ogre muscle tissue to it. He was able to do this because he knew that Oswald had the heart of a Troll King.
Of course, there was something he had to do first. . . plate Oswald’s bones with Adamantium. . .
“Keugh. . . . . . . Keuaaaaaak!”
A truly unimaginable pain wracked Oswald’s mind. . . It was so intense that he wanted to lose consciousness, and he even began to regret undergoing the procedure.
It was useless to have such a high mental level, as he could not easily lose consciousness due to this. Oswald could only grit his teeth and bear it.
How much time had passed? It felt like an eternity.
“Now, I have finished drawing the magical circuits. But we still have a long way to go. Keep your mind focused.”
Next, he grafted Ogre muscle over Oswald’s existing muscle tissue. Thanks to the Troll King’s heart, the procedure went more smoothly than expected. He simply placed the muscle tissue over the existing tissue, and the regenerative and restorative powers accepted the Ogre muscle as part of Oswald’s body.
As a result, Oswald could see his Strength and Endurance levels rising in real time.
“Hmm. . . What should I use for the skin? Alright, I’ve been wanting to try something, so this is perfect.”

As Gestalt said, his stat levels had increased significantly.
