I Don’t Care About Being Liked by the Capture Targets. I Will Be Myself and Free! – Chapter 15

Chapter 15: Disaster Avoidance Meeting (Part 4)

“In Oliver’s route, you are a very important presence. Especially when it comes to your interactions with Oliver, you have more than the heroine.”

“What?! Why?!”

“I’ll explain it to you in order. First, the main focus of this story is the situation the heroine is in. The heroine’s family has been on a downward spiral since a certain incident. Even now, they are in the midst of selling various villas to manage their finances.”

“But they came to a summer resort. . .?”

“Yes. However, the purpose is not to escape the heat. She came with her mother to settle the villas they are selling. They probably can’t afford to hire anyone.”

Chloe was surprised and couldn’t find the words to say.

Without even being able to hire servants, she had no choice but to work herself.

For a noblewoman, it’s not hard to imagine how humiliating that is.

“Hey, Steed! Is there no way to avoid ruin anymore?”

If only it were possible to avoid it, like in Chloe’s case, even now. . .

That’s what she thought.

However, Steed frowned and gently shook his head.

“Chloe, listen calmly. The reason for the downfall of the heroine’s family is due to your father.”

Despite Steed’s concern, Chloe was so shaken that she screamed.

(Why would Otou-sama. . .?)

Even though she was stunned, there was a part of her that thought, “If it’s Otou-sama, it’s possible.”

To Chloe’s family, her father was as sweet as candy.

However, Chloe knew that he could be so ruthless and heartless towards others.

She remembers her father’s behavior in front of the servants who made mistakes and the merchants who came and went.

It was never something to be praised.

“I’m sorry, Chloe. This might be a difficult story for you.”

“No, it’s okay. I’ve never thought of Otou-sama as a saint. Please continue.”

Steed chuckled and then spoke again.

“It was never revealed to the public, but two years ago, there was an attempted coup in the castle. The mastermind behind it was your father, Duke.”

“A coup. . .Wait, does that mean Otou-sama was aiming for the throne?!”

“No. The true purpose of Duke’s coup was to eliminate a certain Count. He fabricated a false coup and framed the Count as the mastermind, intending to execute him. But his plan was discovered by the heroine’s father. . .”

Chloe listened silently, feeling like she wanted to bury her head in her hands.

“Duke changed his strategy and framed the heroine’s father for the coup. Duke’s methods were clever, and the heroine’s father couldn’t do anything about it. He was sent to prison for treason, and the heroine’s family fell into ruin.”

Chloe’s heart was crushed by guilt.

Such villainous behavior was not beautiful.

It was a despicable act.

Especially since it was her own father, she was even more angry.

(Otou-sama, you’re the worst. . .)

She swallowed the words that were about to come out of her throat.

If she said such words in front of Steed, who was peering into her face with concern, she would surely be encouraged.

The one who suffers the most is the heroine.

(I don’t have the right to feel down.)

“Please tell me about the downfall of the heroine and Oliver’s involvement.”

A murky feeling builds up in her chest.

For now, Chloe tries her best not to be conscious of it and asks calmly.

Perhaps Steed can see through Chloe’s feelings.

However, he doesn’t try to pry into what Chloe wants to hide.

“Well, after Oliver reunites with the heroine and starts to care for her, he decides to seek revenge against your family, who ruined her life.”

Steed speaks hesitantly, considering Chloe’s feelings.

“In the game, he even manages to expose Duke’s crimes. As a result, the heroine’s father is reinstated as a bureaucrat. The Duke is arrested for treason, Chloe is left homeless, and eventually gets captured by slave traders.”

“S-Slave. . .?”

This destruction is quite brutal.

Even if she can’t imagine the specific treatment that slaves receive, it’s certain that their lives will be terrible.

(But wait a minute. . .If I avoid the route where I become a slave, won’t the heroine’s father remain imprisoned. . .?)
