The clarity was only momentary. Geliotos’ shattered flesh swirled at an astonishing speed before reassembling a dozen meters away in the form of a black-skinned devil.

As he soared into the air, the wings that had torn from his back fluttered elegantly, blasting a ring of shockwaves. He charged toward Russell, who was still falling.

“Hahahahahaha!”

Geliotos’s new form shot forward like lightning, aiming for Russell, who had reflexively raised his greatsword.

The devil’s arm and the great sword collided, creating a thunderous clang. The attack didn’t end there.

Twice, thrice, a flurry of blows rained down on Russell, too numerous to count.

Russell gritted his teeth, swallowing back the bile that threatened to rise. The internal injuries he had sustained from Lashe’s attack earlier had resurfaced from this onslaught.

He ignored the pain and spread his mana. It was only a little over half full, but it was enough to fight. And even if it wasn’t enough, he would have fought.

BOOM!

The impact sent Russell’s fallen body soaring back into the air. Geliotos, who had been knocked in a different direction by their previous clash, had returned and delivered a punch.

“Ha! Struggle some more! Tear this body apart again!”

Below him, the devil folded its wings and swooped down, rising back up.

ROAR!

A fearsome aura erupted from Geliotos, accompanied by a noise that tore at the sky.

Black lines spread, closing in from all sides. Even amidst that relentless onslaught, Russell’s eyes remained cold and focused.

CRACKLE! CRACKLE!

Lightning danced across Russell’s entire body. Ever since he received the special magic from Karugon during their previous encounter, the elemental power of lightning has become his. He has made good use of it ever since.

The mana he had allocated transformed into electricity and coursed through his body.

In a heartbeat, Geliotos’s magic-like attack slammed into Russell’s body, and Russell enveloped himself in lightning.

Under a dark, cloudy sky, dozens or hundreds of black and blue lines flashed.

A blinding spectacle of shock and noise reverberated through the air. Unceasing shockwaves spread out, scattering the clouds. However, the thick clouds only partially dispersed, still puffing out their heavy forms.

“Hmph. . .”

An attack pressed in from all sides. A force of magi approached a plane, not a point or a line.

Russell, however, thrust his greatsword into the opening of the onslaught. At first glance, it seemed like a desperate attack that would result in injury, given the unfavorable position he was in.

However, it was an exquisitely timed move that not only blocked all the attacks but also dealt a blow to the torso.

BOOM!

Russell’s and Geliotos’s bodies were simultaneously pushed back. Just as he struck with his sword, the devil also landed a blow.

“Hahaha! Good! One more. . . . . .?”

As he spoke, Geliotos’ words trailed off. A large object entered his field of vision, reflected in his crimson eyes.

The reptilian head appeared to have been transplanted from a fantasy creature. The creature boasts vertically sharp turquoise eyes and white scales. It has four wings that resemble blades, along with a lengthy neck and tail.

The shape resembled a boiling white liquid that had been given dynamism, forming six vertices.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

There was a sizzling sound, like water droplets hitting a hot iron skillet. It was a lightning dance in the dragon’s mouth. The tendrils of electricity that flowed down its scales did not escape, instead gathering within the dragon’s mouth.

The flashes of lightning and the accompanying noise were deafening. It was Aellasis’s most powerful and magnificent magic that she could currently use, an ability innate to her race.

[Dragon’s Breath]

ROAR!

Geliotos let out a roar, but his voice was immediately drowned out. The devil was sent flying backward, struck directly by the white dragon’s breath.

At the end of the white beam, a black sphere could be seen briefly blocking the lightning, protecting the devil’s form. And from that form, a black spear shot out, striking the dragon’s head, which was still breathing.

“Keuk!”

With a dragon’s cry, the white line that had been painting the underside of the gray clouds gradually thinned and then snapped. Geliotos fell further and further, until he crashed into the distant plains. The impact created a deep crater, and a ring of dirt exploded outward before settling down.

At the same moment, Russell and the dragon descended to the ground.

BOOM!

A crash. Pushing through the dust that had been kicked up, Russell stepped out of a small crater. A clear fist mark was etched into his chest.

When he had swung his greatsword and delivered a diagonal cut to Geliotos’s upper body, he had also been hit by Geliotos’s fist, who had ignored the injury.

Sticky blood mixed with the saliva that Russell spat out. It was thick and black. He immediately turned his magic eye in the direction where the devil had fallen.

“. . . . . . He’s not dead.”

Surprisingly, Geliotos had survived a direct hit from Aellasis’s breath. It seemed that the devil’s power, the countless lives he had sacrificed, and the power of the Stone of Life had all played a role.

Russell remembered the countless red crystals that had sparkled from the cross-section of Geliotos’s body when he had cleaved it in half with his greatsword. Perhaps those crystals were providing him with a power that countered the divine power, or perhaps they were also providing him with the strength to withstand the dragon’s magic.

As Geliotos fell into the distance, the monsters on the ground stopped fighting the orcs and surged forward.

The orcs, who had been engaged in a fierce battle, collapsed here and there, breathing heavily. A considerable number of corpses lay scattered about, dead.

At that moment, Chenpa approached, panting. He was covered in his own blood and the monsters’ blood, but his face still burned with determination.

“Huff, huff, huff. You. . . . . . you are the one who killed Jadmu earlier. Right?”

Russell looked back at the orc, who was larger than him.

“Stand back. I will deal with him.”

Under normal circumstances, Chenpa would have questioned how a human could possibly stand against such an opponent. But without a word, Chenpa gathered his troops and retreated.

Even as he fought the monsters summoned by the devil, Chenpa had been observing the other battles. Every time the devil with black wings, skin, red hair, and eyes extended his hand or fist, the powerful paladin, druid, and the champion of Vulcan would be sent tumbling to the ground.

The unidentified woman who had appeared out of nowhere had fought valiantly, but she had only been able to inflict minor wounds.

Then, out of nowhere, this man appeared and dealt with the devil in a single blow. He had even engaged in several exchanges before flinging the devil away.

For now, he had no choice but to trust this man.

Russell looked at the fallen.

Kai was trying to get back on his feet, Sarannen was still lying on the ground, and Jess was stumbling towards Sarannen. They were all extraordinary individuals, but it seemed impossible for them to reach the devil who had turned the entire battlefield into his personal slaughterhouse. He had split Geliotos’s body in half earlier, but the sensation of his blade meeting the devil’s flesh had been light.

He must have taken the hit on purpose. Hadn’t he sneered at Russell even as he was being cut in half? To Geliotos, the attack he had just endured was probably a mere trifle.

“Are you alright?”

Calia gave a wry smile at his question.

“No. He’s much stronger than I thought. He must have been stockpiling that much magi and sacrificing that many lives for this moment.”

Russell nodded, as he had learned this fact from Kelpag’s memories.

“Sarannen-nim! Wake up!”

He went straight to Jess. Jess kneeled in front of Sarannen, pouring his holy power into her.

Russell also kneeled down and looked at Sarannen. There was a large hole in her chest. A shadow covered the hole, preventing any more blood from leaking out, but her complexion was deathly pale.

Jess spoke in a grave tone.

“She was hit by the devil’s attack. I’m pouring as much holy power as I can into her, but it seems like her heart and mana circuits have been damaged.”

As Jess spoke, Russell’s magic eye activated. His normal vision blurred, and energy that was invisible to the naked eye became visible.

Her condition was not good. There was a hole near her heart, and her lungs and nearby mana circuits had been torn, causing mana to leak out.

Thanks to Calia’s magic, there was no more bleeding or mana leakage, but it was only a temporary measure. Jess’s divine power was slowly regenerating the wound’s torn surfaces. However, it wasn’t as fast as before.

“Ugh, cough. . . . . .”

Jess wasn’t in good shape either. He was pouring his divine power into her and healing her, causing blood to drip from his eyes, nose, and mouth.

Russell raised his head. In the distance, Geliotos was emerging from the crater. A large amount of steam billowed out.

Blisters rose from his sizzling, boiling skin, bursting with pus and hardening, only to melt again and flow down due to the intense heat.

“Dragon’s Breath. It was exhilarating, but you’re still too young.”

It was a soft whisper, but it sounded as clear as if he were speaking right next to Russell.

Russell glanced over. Aellasis, who had been knocked down by Geliotos’s spear, still showed no signs of regaining consciousness.

As the remaining electrical current crackled and emitted blue sparks, a black hand brushed over it. The writhing current grew thin like a thread and then disappeared.

Even so, the steam continued to rise. His entire body’s metabolism had been activated to the extreme, driving out the remaining current.

The dust beneath his feet, which had been burning due to the incredible heat emitted by the living creature, was scattered, and the air shimmered.

THUD, THUD.

The devil, who had walked out of the crater and onto the flat ground, took a deep breath.

“Hooo. . . . . .the feeling of being alive. The fresh air and the verdant grass beneath my feet excite me. The group of idiots has assembled with the intention of killing me. What a generous birthday present! So I can’t just let it go to waste.”

Geliotos began to walk slowly. With each step, bluish-black flames flared up and burned along his footprints.

At that moment, a large figure appeared behind the devil. It was Kai.

“. . . . . .!”

Kai’s fist, which he had not shouted or charged up, burned with red holy power.

BAM!

The fist and the devil’s palm met. Geliotos’s mouth twisted.

“I told you before. With the divine power of a pathetic backwater god. . .”

He did not finish his sentence. Kai’s left fist immediately grazed the devil’s face. The black skin was torn away, revealing the teeth inside his mouth.

“. . . . . . Hmph. Fine, I’ll tear you apart and eat you.”

Despite the chilling threat, Kai did not back down. Kai unleashed a barrage of fists and kicks on the demon. It was not a proper martial art, but it was not a haphazard display either.

There was no principle of concentrating all of his body’s strength into a single point, nor was there any technique to shock the opponent’s insides. Nevertheless, each blow was filled with rage towards the devil, who had insulted his race and his god.

As the repeated hits continued, the devil’s appearance became more disorganized. However, the one-sided onslaught did not last long.

BAM!

Kai’s two wrists were caught in Geliotos’s hands.

“You fought well.”

CRUNCH!

With the devil’s laughter, Kai’s wrists were crushed as if they had been put into a press.

“Gahhhhh!”

“Clumsy, though.”

The tips of Geliotos’s fingers transformed into dozens of tendrils, which then dug into Kai’s body. As the tendrils sucked away Kai’s blood, the devil’s wounds began to regenerate rapidly.

At that moment, Russell’s figure appeared between them, along with the afterimage of a blue spark. The devil’s eyes widened, and the flashing blade filled his vision.

CLANG!

The delayed explosion of air roared like thunder.

“Human!”

Geliotos also growled like a beast, and something flew through the thick dust and sand that had been kicked up. It was Nahilnir, the massive obsidian greatsword.

“Keuk!”

The devil flew far away, with the greatsword embedded in his chest. Russell took advantage of the opportunity to check on the fallen Kai.

Like Sarannen, he was in bad shape. Both of his arms were rags, and the holy power of Vulcan was no longer visible. It was clear that he was in no condition to fight.

It was then that Kai spoke.

“Now, if now. We can defeat him.”

“What?”

“The way his body was created must have included the blood and flesh of our race. Earlier, when I was caught by him and gave him my blood, I didn’t just give him my blood. I infused all of my remaining holy power into it.”

Kai smiled wryly, despite his pain.

“It will be difficult for him to regenerate like that again, at least as long as my brethren’s flesh is part of his body.”

“I understand. Rest.”

Russell stood up and raised a hand. Then Geliotos, who had been struggling to hold the great sword in the distance, came to him.

“Kugh!”

Just before Russell’s hand could grasp Nahilnir’s hilt, the devil narrowly escaped the gravitational pull that was dragging him.

“Keuk, cough! What is this, why isn’t my regeneration. . . . . . ?”

Geliotos coughed up dark blood and flesh, his voice filled with confusion as he felt his chest. It was then that Russell’s kick struck.

BAM!

The devil’s body was lifted into the air, but the damage was not significant. His arms, crossed in an X, had blocked the blow. However, Russell’s attack was not over.

“Hup!”

Suppressing the rising bile, Russell launched himself into the air. He could feel his body, which had been strained earlier to save Kai, screaming at him to slow down.

Even so, he had to move. It was better than letting Kai’s sacrifice go to waste.

“What have you done?!”

Geliotos’s voice was filled with anxiety. The arrogance and composure he had displayed earlier were nowhere to be seen.

Russell’s greatsword flew in an elegant arc. The devil’s magic exploded.

At this moment, powerful forces that sought only each other’s lives collided and pushed against the space between them. However, the balance of power was skewed.

“Ugh, this. . .!”

Geliotos twitched in a panic. The proper regeneration he had experienced earlier was not happening. Under his black skin, the flesh that had been fused together was moving on its own, not following the devil’s will.

The holy power of Vulcan, which had entered along with Kai’s blood and life force, was stirring within the devil’s body, destroying the bonds and cohesion from within.

Russell threw the white axe. The axe flew through the air, scattering a thin frost, caused Geliotos to fall to the ground in shock.

The axe sliced through the devil’s wings as they flapped, and Geliotos screamed. The scream echoed out across the unobstructed plains.

As Russell extended his hand to retrieve the axe that had flown away, the great sword grazed the devil’s right shoulder. A large gash appeared on the tough skin, and the arm dangled limply.

“Kyaaaah!”

Sensing the crisis, the devil let out a roar and spewed magic from his mouth. Sharp blades and poison infused with magic were charged at Russell, but they were cut in half by Nahilnir’s blade, which had been raised vertically, and did not cause any significant damage.

“Gulp, cough! I can’t, I can’t end like this. How dare you take away my body, this can’t be━!”

Along with Geliotos’s desperate screams, the devil’s body swelled and puffed up. Then it began to grow in size.

Russell frowned at the sight of the masses multiplying, ignoring their own weight.

As the sinister incantation continued, he could see the holy power of Vulcan, which had been writhing within the devil’s skin, rapidly disappear.

At the same time, an unknown vortex appeared deep within the devil’s body, gathering the remaining muscle and blood before exploding it.

What emerged was a monstrosity, indescribable, standing on six legs and writhing. Crimson tentacles pulsed from its legs and body, and its torso, supported by those legs, resembled a turtle shell.

On top of that shell, six red crystals were embedded and glowing.

‘Is that?’

“Grrrrrr. . . . . .”

The monstrous, transformed devil was about to charge at Russell when. . .

CLATTER!

With a clear sound, a massive amount of white iron chains rose from the ground and began to wrap around Geliotos’s body.

Feeling a sense of familiarity with the technique, Russell looked back.

He saw two people emerging from the forest. One of them was someone he had never imagined would appear at this moment.
