Choosing the Baby’s Father From the Following – Chapter 6

Chapter 6

After I finally sent Prince Flavi away, as if chasing him out, I could properly think again.

‘𝘈𝘯𝘺𝘸𝘢𝘺, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘵𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘓𝘰𝘶𝘪𝘴𝘦’𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘺 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘌𝘳𝘯𝘴𝘵.’

Thinking like that, it was more natural that Ernst was the father of the child, but the thing that bothered me was still Ren’s existence.

I’ll take care of you. You won’t have to go through any pain. Okay?

I clearly remember those serious purple eyes that said those words……, he’s not the father?

“Sigh…….”

As I sighed deeply, Phoebe came in.

“Your Highness, Lord Ren from the magic tower sent an urgent delivery.”

Speak of the devil, Ren must have sent the medicine.

“Should I call for more guards?”

“Huh? Why?”

Then Phoebe also sighed.

“Why, you ask? Something might explode or catch fire like it did in the dormitory…….”

Why, Ren…….

But I was sure that what Ren sent this time was medicine for morning sickness.

‘𝘏𝘦’𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳, 𝘴𝘰 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘻𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘢 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘻𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘬?’

Of course, he could be crazy…….

Still, I was desperate for the morning sickness medicine because I only had two tea bags left that he gave me.

“It’s okay. Leave it here and go.”

The box looked very ordinary, but Phoebe placed it on the table and stepped back, as if handling a bomb.

As I approached and opened the box, another box appeared.

“Um……?”

When I touched the palm shape on the lid, the lock opened by itself.

Inside, a dozen or so glass bottles with labels lined up.

「Nausea, vomiting. 1~2 teaspoons, increase as symptoms worsen.」

「Indigestion. 1~2 teaspoons, increase as symptoms worsen.」

「Insomnia, sleep disorders. 3 teaspoons.」

「Cold hands and feet, blood circulation. 1 teaspoon.」

「Tinnitus. 1.5 teaspoons.」

「Headache. 1 teaspoon.」

I was checking the labels on the potion bottles, which were white, black, brown, or strange colors, when I saw a bottle of colorful candies.

The label on the candy bottle said:

「When you miss Ren」

I chuckled and picked up a bottle of medicine.

I took two spoons of the ‘nausea’ medicine and opened the colorful bottle to take out a candy.

Of course, it wasn’t because I missed Ren, but because I needed the medicine.

‘𝘖𝘣𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘺.’

No matter how much of a visual person I am, I can’t miss a man I’ve only met once.

Moreover, I haven’t even figured out whether it’s the magic-using weirdo or the pretty weirdo who’s the real father.

‘𝘈𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘊𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘦’𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘦……’

It seemed highly unlikely that he would come.

“Sigh.”

Of course, that was a really good thing.

The next day, the Imperial Palace was bustling from early morning. Even the quiet detached palace, where I resided, was livelier than usual.

Around afternoon, Phoebe, while changing my dress and styling my hair, chuckled.

“His Highness Lurick has achieved another great feat, hasn’t he? I believe it’s time he receives a proper title. And wouldn’t it be wonderful for both of you to move to the main palace?”

I smiled bitterly.

As the original author, I was certain that such rewards would never be given to Lurick until he revolted and struck down his brothers.

“Do you want to go to the main palace?”

I asked, and Phoebe blinked, her expression turning serious.

“That’s not it……!”

She pouted for a moment as if feeling wronged, then replied.

“Would it be easy to enter the main palace? Our gentle youngest princess will have many suitors. It’s better for you to be here, away from the Empress and the Crown Prince. But His Highness Lurick’s situation is different.”

She was right.

Even at the age of twenty-seven, Lurick had no title other than being the second prince.

‘𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘭𝘢, 𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘑𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘪𝘴, 𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘢𝘵𝘢.’

Lurick hadn’t even received the title of Duke of Ostia, which he should have rightfully received as the second son of the imperial family upon reaching adulthood.

Of course, this was because both the Emperor and the Crown Prince were well aware of the side effects of the magic sword.

In short, they knew Lurick wouldn’t live long.

‘𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘺 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘓𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘬.’

From a young age, Lurick had been treated poorly, fueling his determination to protect Louise and himself. He proved his abilities by becoming the youngest Sword Master in the Empire.

However, the Emperor handed that young boy a magic sword with obvious side effects and left him to live as its host.

‘𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦.’

I shook my head, recalling Lurick’s gloomy past, a past I myself had created.

‘𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘰𝘯 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳, 𝘓𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘬.’

He would soon meet the female protagonist, Helena, and be healed both physically and mentally, becoming a new person.

‘𝘞𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘢 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘵𝘦.’

If Lurick doesn’t go berserk, wouldn’t he be unable to meet Helena?

A sudden ominous thought crossed my mind, but I quickly shook my head.

‘𝘐𝘵’𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦. 「𝘔𝘢𝘥 𝘋𝘰𝘨」 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦.’

The female protagonist, Helena, I created, is a tenacious regressor.

She might find it strange that I survived, unlike the future she knows, but Louise is an insignificant character both in the novel and in the imperial family, so it shouldn’t matter much.

‘𝘐𝘧 𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦, 𝘏𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘢 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦.’

Fortunately, I am Lurick’s biological younger sister, so there’s no way the story will take a bizarre pseudo-incestuous turn.

So, leaving my terrifying brother aside, all I need to do is find the father of my child.

🔹🔹🔹

The western sky finally turned crimson red.

I went down to the Imperial Garden with Phoebe to await Lurick’s return.

A massive crowd was there to welcome Lurick, but I was the only member of the Imperial family present.

‘𝘖𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦.’

Still, there were quite a few nobles, so I was able to hear firsthand about Lurick’s exploits.

“I heard this year’s harvest wasn’t good. Supplies might be cut off by winter.”

“Our head maid fainted when she heard the news of the war. Her youngest son was sent to the front lines.”

“There are many who speak ill of the Second Prince, but in the end, he is the one who upholds the Empire’s dignity.”

Of course, these were conversations they could have only because no other Imperial family member besides me was present.

The lady who spoke last astutely acknowledged me.

“Congratulations, Your Highness.”

“……Thank you.”

I replied, but I wasn’t foolish enough to be truly pleased by such empty pleasantries that wouldn’t even be uttered in front of the real Imperial family.

‘𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘢 𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘬 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘐’𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺.’

Just then, a standard-bearer came running, waving a flag with the Imperial seal.

“The Sword of the Empire, His Highness Lurick Cideric Friesland Brentania, the Second Prince, returns with news of victory after 3 years!”

Finally, the protagonist had arrived.

‘𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘮𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘺𝘦𝘵.’

Bless Mage Tower Master Ren.

I felt my heart pound as I waited for Lurick.

He was my brother in this world, so it was impossible to have any other feelings for him, but he was the male lead I created, after all.

‘𝘐𝘯 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴, 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘺 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘺𝘱𝘦.’

The returned male lead who can only be healed by the female lead.

‘𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵.’

The male lead gracefully dismounted from his black steed, which was far taller than the others.

The hem of his blood-red cloak billowed like an overflowing goblet.

‘𝘞𝘩𝘰𝘢.’

I thought red hair and red eyes might be a bit too much of a combination, even for the male lead, but seeing it in person, the impact was tremendous.

‘𝘊𝘳𝘢𝘻𝘺…! 𝘏𝘦’𝘴 𝘴𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦…!’

He was different from the prince who was as beautiful as a porcelain doll, and different from the untamed stallion-like Mage Tower Master.

Lurick was bathed in the evening glow as if it were a halo, and his face, devoid of any joy befitting a victor, was so handsome it seemed almost sacred.

‘𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥, 𝘩𝘦’𝘴 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥…’

I was so lost in admiration that I didn’t even notice him approaching me.

“…Lou.”

A cool voice suddenly broke through, bringing me back to my senses.

“B, Brother.”

I lightly gripped my dress skirt and imitated the greeting Phoebe had given Chilila a few days ago.

‘𝘐𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦?’

I was so thankful I wasn’t clumsy……

“I’m glad you returned safely, broth……”

The rest of my sentence, ‘…Brother’, was swallowed back down as Lurick pulled me into a tight embrace.

He muttered, holding me with one arm as if overcome with emotion,

“You’ve become a lady.”

Are you… crying…?
