Choosing the Baby’s Father From the Following – Chapter 24.2

I skillfully imitated Phoebe, my hair concealed beneath an indoor bonnet.

My poor maid was lying in bed, her complexion as pale as a seriously ill patient.

‘𝘖𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦, 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘺 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴’𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘥……’

The physician couldn’t know that, of course.

“Greetings, Your Highness. I am the physician who frequently attends here…… Gernas Noera.”

The physician was trembling.

He seemed to be extremely nervous after undergoing multiple searches.

I wondered if he would even be able to conduct a proper examination like this.

‘𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘦, 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘗𝘩𝘰𝘦𝘣𝘦’𝘴 𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦.’

He began to examine Phoebe.

My one and only maid was usually very healthy, but she was shaking so much because of the distress she was in.

“You collapsed…… you say.”

The physician asked cautiously, placing his stethoscope on her.

Phoebe, as if afraid he might discover her true identity, answered curtly.

“I just felt a little dizzy.”

The physician nodded his head.

“It must have been tiring for you, traveling such a long distance. You must have used various magic, such as the Gate, on your way here, which can be burdensome even for those who are not sensitive.”

Phoebe squeezed her eyes shut and recited the lines I had instructed her to say.

“Yes, it’s nothing serious, so just tell my brother not to worry too much.”

After finishing the examination, the physician prescribed painkillers, fatigue relievers, and tonics.

“And, it’s best to avoid hot springs when you experience dizziness. I’m not sure how long you’ll be staying at the monastery, but please try to get some rest.”

I answered on behalf of Phoebe, who merely nodded her head vaguely.

“I’ll make sure she rests. Thank you.”

Just before the physician left the room, Ren suddenly came in and put a friendly arm around his shoulder.

“Is the examination over? How is our Princess doing?”

The physician flinched, his face uncomfortable.

“There’s…… nothing seriously wrong.”

“Thank you for your hard work.”

Ren patted the physician’s shoulder as if to reassure him, and in doing so, removed the magical device he had attached earlier.

As soon as the door closed, Phoebe brushed her shoulder with her hand.

—Clink.

With a soft sound, the small device Ren had attached fell onto the bed.

Glaring at it, Phoebe spoke.

“If you don’t explain what’s going on right now, I’m going to go straight to His Highness, the Prince.”

Lies…….

Even if I didn’t explain, Phoebe wouldn’t go to Lurick first, but that wouldn’t be right.

At that moment, Ren approached and removed the magical device from my shoulder as well.

‘𝘠𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵?’

I marveled, looking at the small, jewel-like object in Ren’s palm.

Of course, it was Ren’s ability that made it possible, not something just anyone could do, but it was still fascinating.

Then, finally breathing a sigh of relief, I looked at Ren.

“Thank you, Ren. I’ll talk to Phoebe now.”

He turned to Phoebe and grinned.

“Go easy on her.”

As Phoebe glared at him, Ren opened the door and left.

Phoebe carefully locked the door and then began to undress me.

She didn’t take her eyes off me, her gaze sharp and accusing.

“Tell me quickly, Your Highness. I’m going crazy with curiosity.”

“I’m pregnant.”

As soon as the words left my mouth, silence descended.

It was followed by a muffled gasp, and then, sobs.

My poor maid crumpled to the floor.

“I’m sorry, Phoebe……”

And so, clinging to Phoebe, I found myself apologizing for a long time for something I hadn’t even done.

“Is it Lord Ren’s child?”

Phoebe finally asked after her crying subsided.

She must have thought so because Ren had helped us avoid the doctor.

I shook my head, but I couldn’t bring myself to say that I didn’t know who the father was.

“The father……”

So, in a serious voice, I said,

“I can’t reveal it yet.”
