Choosing the Baby’s Father From the Following – Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Of course, it was doubtful, but it wasn’t something to jump to conclusions about.

‘𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘥𝘪𝘦.’

And they were all close to Louise.

‘𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦 ‘𝘔𝘢𝘥 𝘋𝘰𝘨,’ 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘓𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘸𝘰, 𝘣𝘶𝘵…….’

‘𝘐𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘮𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘓𝘰𝘶𝘪𝘴𝘦’𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩.’

Then, now that Louise is alive, are all their lives extended?

” Ugh. ”

No way!

‘𝘐𝘧 𝘐’𝘮 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘵, 𝘢𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘨𝘶𝘺𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘥𝘪𝘦!’

Because my brother is the ‘Mad Dog’ Lurick!

🔹🔹🔹

“Congratulations, you’re pregnant.”

A few days later, after much trouble, I finally met with the doctor and heard those words.

‘𝘐 𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘴𝘰 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘢 𝘥𝘰𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘰𝘺𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘯……’

Even though my face was hidden by my robes, I had to swallow hard to keep from crying in front of the doctor’s smiling face.

‘𝘚𝘰 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘵.’

It’s okay, I’ll be fine.

It’s not like I have a terminal illness, and babies are so cute……

They’re cute…… I’m confident I can take good care of it…

‘𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘵?’

Ugh, I think I need to find the baby’s father!

I need to find the baby’s father and get out of the Imperial Palace before anyone finds out about the pregnancy……!

‘𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭? 𝘐’𝘮 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘶𝘯 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨, 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦!’

I took off my black robes, stuffed them back into the large trunk, and hurried out of the restroom.

As soon as I opened the door, I ran into Phoebe.

“Your Highness, did you have an upset stomach? You’ve been using the public restroom for quite a while……”

I found out from Callisteon’s letter that the back door of the grocery store’s bathroom led to an alley and that a black robe was hidden in the bathroom storage compartment.

‘𝘛𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘦, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘸𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘨’𝘴 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘺, 𝘴𝘰 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘰𝘯 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦.’

And I found out from the market map that Mage Tower Master, Ren, sent me for fun, that there was a shabby clinic in this alley.

‘𝘙𝘦𝘯’𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘷𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘣𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘴……’

I had miraculously succeeded in the adventure I had painstakingly planned, but I couldn’t shake off the shock of the pregnancy confirmation.

‘𝘐’𝘮, 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺, 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘵!’

Is the baby’s father even among those three?

‘𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵?’

Phoebe looked at my dumbfounded face and reached out with a meaningful look.

“Your Highness? Are you really not feeling well?”

Only when Phoebe’s cool palm touched my forehead did I come to my senses with a start.

“No, it’s just…… It’s been difficult to go to the bathroom lately.”

Phoebe frowned.

“I knew it! I thought you couldn’t go yesterday either!”

……She was checking up on that kind of stuff?

“L, Let’s go.”

As I walked away, flustered, my refreshed limbs stretched out with more vigor than necessary.

‘𝘖𝘩 𝘮𝘺, 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭 𝘮𝘺 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺.’

Is this what it feels like to drive a Ferrari after riding a Model X?

‘𝘔𝘺 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘴𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘐’𝘮 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘵!’

Fortunately, Phoebe didn’t seem to notice anything strange.

“This way, Your Highness. I’ve found the items you requested.”

As she gestured, a servant followed behind, carrying a large, luxurious box in their arms.

We immediately got into the royal carriage, and the box was placed next to Phoebe.

She stroked the surface of the box with her palm and said,

“The Grand Duke is quite the romantic, isn’t he? If he wanted to give you a gift, he could have just sent it to the Imperial Palace, but to go through all this trouble to have you pick it up personally.”

Well, maybe he wanted to give me a chance to get out of the palace and get some fresh air?

That’s right, Callisteon, whom I had set up as the ‘Serpent of the North,’ was this affectionate, at least to Louise.

‘𝘏𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘨𝘪𝘧𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘸𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘉𝘢𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘨 𝘴𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘐 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘣𝘺.’

Even so, all I could think now was,

‘𝘐𝘴 𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘺?’

🔹🔹🔹

― Click-clack, click-clack.

The royal carriage was the enemy of a woman in her early stages of pregnancy.

A while later, I got off the carriage, my face pale from holding back nausea.

‘𝘐𝘧 𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘴.’

As I straightened up with difficulty, a strong scent of perfume wafted from somewhere.

‘𝘜𝘨𝘩.’

I had to suppress the urge to vomit that welled up again.

But the source of the smell seemed to be getting closer.

‘𝘖𝘩 𝘯𝘰, 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘳……’

However, the other person, seemingly having no such thought, approached me and linked her arm with mine without hesitation.

“Louise!”

Generally, only royalty could address me so openly by my name.

Before I could even grasp the other person’s identity based on that fact, Phoebe curtsied.

“Your Highness, Princess Chilila.”

Chilila.

For the past few days, I had been cooped up in my room, desperately trying to recall the character settings of “Mad Dog” and writing down every detail I could remember.

For example……

Second Princess (25 years old)

Chilila Arreta Brentania

Reddish-gold hair.

One of the more decent personalities among the royal family.

Even though I wrote this novel, I never thought I’d remember the middle name of an extra-like supporting princess.

‘𝘞𝘰𝘸, 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬.’

I could recall the ages of the second princess and the other princesses in the novel as easily as I could recite the times tables.

Amazed by my own memory, I put on a smile.

“Older Sister……?”

Unsure of how to address her, I whispered softly, but Chilila beamed brightly.

“I was just about to go see you, what a coincidence!”

She was prettier than I expected, even though she didn’t have a significant role.

Her golden eyes were mystical, and her red hair, a characteristic of the Brentania royal family, shone brightly under the afternoon sun.

‘𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘓𝘰𝘶𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘪𝘳.’

Anyway, Chilila was going to come see me?

‘𝘓𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦, 𝘴𝘰 𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴……’

The reason Lurick poured so much affection only on Louise was that they were the only ones who relied on each other in this vast imperial palace during their childhood.

‘𝘜𝘯𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴, 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘸𝘰 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴.’

Moreover, there was a setting that the Second Empress was of commoner origin.

I couldn’t respond to her immediately as I was trying to organize my complicated thoughts, but Chilila didn’t wait for my answer and asked right away.

“Say, Louise, is Grand Duke Callisteon coming to the victory celebration?”

Well, that’s right.

‘𝘚𝘰, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯.’

I swallowed nervously.

I really hope this isn’t the scenario where it’s revealed that the gift the servant is holding is from Grand Duke Callisteon, and I get slapped by Chilila.

‘𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬, 𝘐’𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘦𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦, 𝘴𝘰 𝘐’𝘮 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘭𝘦……’

This is bad if the father of the baby is Callisteon, right?

‘𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘯𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘭𝘢, 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘺 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘪𝘧 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘳 𝘯𝘰𝘵.’

To be honest, I hadn’t even thought about the victory celebration.

The past few days have been busy enough just trying to recall the novel’s settings, analyzing the letters, and figuring out how to see a doctor.

I answered vaguely.

“Well…, I’m not sure either.”

But to my surprise, Chilila’s lips curled up.

“I heard your brother Lurick passed the Muassaq border a while ago, haven’t you heard from the Grand Duke yet?”

‘𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘓𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘬,’ she says. What about her way of speaking?

‘𝘏𝘦’𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰𝘰, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸?’

Anyway…… since I became Louise, I haven’t received any communication from Callisteon.

‘𝘔𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘢 𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘣𝘰𝘹……, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯’𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘵 𝘺𝘦𝘵.’

So I answered with a little more confidence.

“No, not yet.”

“I thought you would have heard from him……”

But there was no trace of disappointment in Chilila’s tone.

She released me neatly, seemingly very satisfied.

“Why don’t you come over for lunch sometime?”

She probably didn’t mean it, but I didn’t want to go to lunch either.

‘𝘉𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘢 𝘩𝘶𝘨𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘧 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘦.’

I’m a complete newbie who just possessed this body.

Who knows if the story I wrote will actually unfold, and it wouldn’t be good if I made a strange mistake.

🔹🔹🔹

It seemed like I was useless to her since I didn’t have any information about Callisteon.

After Chililla left with a relieved face, we safely returned to my room in the detached palace.

As soon as we returned to the somewhat familiar space, the biggest question came to mind again.

‘𝘚𝘰 𝘸𝘩𝘰’𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘺’𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳?!’

Surely no one would refuse to take responsibility, right?

‘𝘚𝘩𝘦’𝘴 𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘨𝘰𝘥’𝘴 𝘴𝘢𝘬𝘦?!’

As I was agonizing over it, Phoebe asked mischievously,

“Should I give you some space?”

Why…?

I thought to myself and then spotted the gift box on the table.

Phoebe narrowed her eyes and whispered,

“His Excellency might confess this time.”
