An Unconscious Genius Magic Tool Maker Wants to Live a Leisurely Life – Chapter 42
Chapter 42: Alone Time Together
On a holiday morning.
I wake up a little slower than usual.
I stretch my arms wide.
Nero-kun, who slept in the same room as me until yesterday, has moved to a separate room from today.
If he were an innocent child, it would be okay, but it’s not good to sleep in the same room with a man who is much older than me…
So, His Highness was considerate enough to separate the rooms for us.
As for Nero-kun…
“Don’t worry. I have no interest in touching other women. Besides, I am currently in a golem body.”
I didn’t feel any lies in his words, but His Highness separated the rooms because he didn’t like it.
I feel like I’m being treated specially by His Highness, and it gives me a sense of superiority.
So, I am experiencing being alone for the first time in a few days.
My room, with only me in it, is quiet and makes me feel a little lonely.
I change my clothes and wash my face.
Feeling refreshed, I leave the room.
As I open the door, I see Nero-kun in the hallway.
“Are you awake?”
He was waiting for me.
Nero-kun’s room is next to mine, strictly speaking, it’s next to the research laboratory.
“You’re up early. Were you already awake?”
“I don’t actually need sleep in this body. I just do it out of habit. Besides, there was something I had to take care of today.”
“Something to take care of?”
“Let’s discuss the details with the three of us. Shall we go to the dining hall?”
As I had intended to do so, I nodded in agreement. If His Highness is joining us, it might be about the countermeasures for the rumors we discussed yesterday.
I head to the dining hall with Nero-kun.
When we open the door, His Highness is already seated.
“Good morning, Freya.”
“Good morning, Your Highness.”
His refreshing smile makes me feel very refreshed.
“Good morning, Nero. Is it done already?”
“I followed the plan as instructed. It’s working without any problems.”
“As expected of a great magician.”
“It’s an easy task for anyone, not just me. You explain it to her.”
His Highness responds with that intention.
We sit down and talk while having our meal.
“Yesterday, I officially made Nero your assistant.”
“Is that so?”
“Yeah, our ambiguous position has caused some strange rumors. If we had started like this from the beginning, we wouldn’t have had unnecessary problems. I really caused you trouble.”
“Oh no! I caused more trouble for His Majesty than I did for you.”
An illegitimate child of a prince.
It could be a big problem that could damage the trust of the people.
I am just an individual, and my position as a palace magic tool maker is not very strong.
And besides, the content of the rumors itself… wasn’t that bad.
“But, there’s no need to worry about the rumors spreading anymore. They’ll disappear soon.”
“Is…Is that so?”
Will it really change just by officially making Nero-kun my assistant?
To deny the already spread rumors, there needs to be an appropriate change.
It’s not easy to put out the fire that’s already burning.
As if reading my thoughts, His Highness continues to explain, “Just making Nero-kun your assistant won’t be enough, but we’ll borrow the power of a great magician.”
I look at Nero-kun.
“I used my magic to cast a suggestion on those in the royal castle and palace. I was welcomed as your assistant from the beginning.”
“You manipulated everyone’s memories?”
“I didn’t do anything too grandiose. I just spread something similar to the rumors. The effect itself isn’t that strong, but it worked well in this case.”
It’s not like people believed the rumors.
That’s because the rumor about a hidden child between me and His Highness is undoubtedly not true.
The age difference is too great.
Judging from Nero-kun’s appearance, it would mean that I or His Highness gave birth to a child when we were still children ourselves.
It’s impossible for human anatomy.
In other words, while the rumor spread, people had a conviction that it would be impossible.
“Then we just need to support that. This will make the rumors disappear.”
“But it’s just a rumor. We can’t restrain those who are nosing around you, so I’ll still rely on Nero for that. I’d like to have a bodyguard, but…”
“A clumsy bodyguard will only get in the way. I’ll be enough by myself.”
“So, I’ll leave it to Nero. I’m sure you’ll be fine, but if you have any concerns, let me know right away.”
“Yes. Thank you very much.”
His Highness and Nero-kun both care about my safety.
I feel guilty for being protected, but more than that, I’m happy.
The three of us finish our meal without realizing it.
The time spent with His Highness goes by in the blink of an eye.
“I’ll go back to my room first.”
Suddenly, Nero-kun stands up and tries to leave the dining hall.
He stops abruptly, with his back turned.
“Oh, right. Let me tell you one good thing. This room is currently protected by my barrier. It’s the safest place in the world. No sound can escape outside. You don’t have to worry about being overheard no matter what you talk about.”
With that, he leaves the room.
The rest of us look at each other and can’t help but smile.
“Nero really notices things, doesn’t he?”
“Maybe. Thanks to him, we were able to be alone.”
Nero-kun cares about us.
Recently, I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had the time to relax and talk with just the two of us, so I’m happy.
“You’re not working today, are you?”
“Yes, I’m taking the day off.”
“I see. I wish we could spend it together…”
I shake my head.
“Just being able to talk like this makes me so happy.”
I fell in love with a prince of a country.
This is not a normal romance.
We can’t meet each other often, and our time together is limited.
That’s why this brief moment is special and comforting.
“Let’s plan a holiday together when our schedules align. By then, I’ll have eased your anxiety.”
“Your Highness…then I’ll try to finish my work quickly too.”
“Don’t push yourself.”
“You too, Your Highness.”
I thought that I wouldn’t mind pushing myself a little if it meant we could extend the time we spend together.
I’m sure His Highness feels the same way…
