Ch 15: Servant Ghost
Princess Anling’s corpse jar was placed in the center of the living room. Si Ming opened his backpack and took out the prepared talismans, peachwood sword, and other tools.
First, he went to each corridor entrance in the house and sprinkled salt on the ground, leaving only one corridor unsalted.
Salt is an exorcism tool that can block most ghostly beings. To prevent being surrounded and attacked, protecting oneself with salt is necessary.
Next, he placed talismans used to detect ghostly beings on his body. If any ghostly being approached, these talismans would self-ignite as a warning.
Finally, he held the peachwood sword smeared with rooster blood. Rooster blood and the peachwood sword are both extremely Yang objects, most effective against evil spirits, and a natural counter to some weaker ghostly beings.
Having done all this, Si Ming looked up at the several oil paintings hanging on the stairs leading to the second floor.
Si Ming clearly remembered that when he escaped from the basement yesterday, the portraits in these paintings were staring at him and grinning. Therefore, these paintings were likely possessed by ghostly beings.
In his previous life, many ghostly beings were of the possessing type; some would possess inanimate objects to attack humans, a particularly troublesome type of ghostly being.
Holding the peachwood sword in one hand, he took out the child’s urine the boss had prepared.
According to the boss, this bottle of child’s urine was from his eight-year-old grandson, absolutely pure; now it was time to see if it had any effect.
Gently opening the lid, Si Ming approached the paintings.
Just as Si Ming was about to pour the child’s urine onto the painting, Mona Lisa’s eyes in the oil painting suddenly moved, meeting Si Ming’s gaze. Then, the person in the painting revealed the same eerie smile as before, looking particularly terrifying in the dimly lit house.
Seeing this, Si Ming’s eyes turned cold. Without hesitation, he poured the child’s urine onto the painting.
Fizz!
As if water had splashed onto red-hot iron, a sharp sizzling sound immediately erupted.
A shocking sight appeared: a large amount of white smoke emerged from the glass of the oil painting, as if it had been splashed with acid.
Accompanied by a pained wail, Mona Lisa’s skin in the painting seemed to be burned, revealing the bright red flesh beneath!
Then, the person in the painting, like a large lizard, emerged from the painting and quickly climbed towards the ceiling.
It worked!
Seeing that the child’s urine had worked, Si Ming’s eyes lit up.
The upper half of the Mona Lisa that crawled out of the painting retained the appearance of the person in the painting, but the lower half was connected to a spine covered in flesh, emitting the foul stench of rotting flesh.
“Chang Gui?”
Seeing its appearance, a cold light flashed in Si Ming’s eyes, and he recalled intelligence about this type of ghostly being.
【Chang Gui.】
【D-class ghostly being, fond of decaying flesh, does not actively attack humans, can transform into objects with human characteristics, and often resides in paintings and statues.】
The origin of this ghostly being is unknown, but it was the most common and most troublesome type of ghostly being in his previous life.
Chang Gui are not deadly and do not actively attack humans, but they help other ghostly beings attack humans.
Because a Chang Gui’s belly is like a large sack; no one knows what’s inside, and another ghostly being might jump out.
Seeing that the Mona Lisa portrait was actually a Chang Gui in disguise, Si Ming reacted quickly, put the peachwood sword on his back, and took out a slingshot from his waist.
He placed a cinnabar pellet into the slingshot, pulled back the elastic band, aimed at the Chang Gui that was scurrying across the ceiling, and after judging its position, Si Ming released his hand without hesitation.
Whiz!
The cinnabar pellet turned into a phantom image, striking the Chang Gui that was rapidly climbing on the ceiling.
With a scream, the Chang Gui hit by the cinnabar pellet fell from the ceiling and landed heavily on the ground.
Before the Chang Gui could get up, Si Ming had already rushed to its side and pierced its head with his sword.
Watching the Chang Gui writhe and turn into ashes before disappearing, Si Ming breathed a sigh of relief.
Although Chang Gui don’t attack humans, there’s no guarantee that other ghostly beings are not hidden within them. Seeing the Chang Gui turn to ash without anything else emerging, Si Ming finally relaxed.
Instantly killing a Chang Gui gave Si Ming a rough estimate of their strength.
As he had thought, the strength of this Chang Gui was far weaker than a Chang Gui after ghostly resurrection.
Both its speed and physical strength were significantly inferior.
Apparently, these ghostly beings could appear in this house in physical form because of the Taisui Coffin. Without the Taisui Coffin, low-level ghostly beings like Chang Gui wouldn’t be born.
As he was thinking this, a hissing sound suddenly came from behind, as if a snake was spitting out its tongue.
Turning his head, Si Ming’s face changed drastically. In the oil painting of The Last Supper above the Mona Lisa painting, the disciples were frantically breaking free from the painting’s confines, transforming into Chang Gui and fleeing.
Looking at the Chang Gui frantically scurrying across the ceiling like large geckos, Si Ming’s mouth twitched involuntarily.
Holy crap, so many?
Si Ming never imagined that this small house contained so many Chang Gui.
Quickly raising his slingshot, Si Ming’s eyes and hands worked quickly, instantly shooting down several Chang Gui.
But even with Si Ming’s fastest reaction speed, one Chang Gui escaped.
Fortunately, he had the foresight to seal the corridors with salt. Seeing the Chang Gui rush into the only unsalted corridor, Si Ming immediately picked up his peachwood sword and chased after it.
Seeing the Chang Gui dart into a room at the end of the corridor, Si Ming dashed to the door and rushed into the room after it.
As soon as he rushed into the room, Si Ming stopped.
It was a bathroom, but the Chang Gui had vanished.
Seeing this situation, Si Ming immediately increased his vigilance, guarding against possible danger.
The bathroom was silent; the Chang Gui had seemingly disappeared into thin air, but Si Ming didn’t let his guard down, holding his sword and vigilantly observing the surroundings.
Suddenly, a dark shadow fell from the sky behind him, lunging at Si Ming.
Si Ming, prepared for this, spun around and thrust his sword. With a wail, the peachwood sword pierced straight into the mouth of the Chang Gui that attempted a sneak attack. Watching the Chang Gui struggle on the peachwood sword and turn to ash, Si Ming’s expression didn’t relax.
What’s going on? Chang Gui don’t actively attack humans, so why did this one attack me?
Si Ming couldn’t understand.
But at that moment, Si Ming’s body froze.
An indescribable sense of incongruity came from his heart. In this bathroom, something seemed to be watching him!
Si Ming felt his hair stand on end. His past experiences escaping from ghostly beings made him acutely aware that he had made a big mistake!
The talismans!
The warning talismans had burned to ashes at some point, but he hadn’t noticed!
At that moment, something moved beside him. Si Ming stiffly turned his head and looked at the thing next to him.
It was the bathroom mirror, and in the mirror, his reflection was grinning eerily at him…
