Chapter 78.2: Arcturus (3)
Glumiêm’s voice shook with fury!
Isoel and Vanderbilt moved to protect Oleciren. Even from afar, the raw power in the Elf Queen’s voice was palpable.
Whooom!
But Cain didn’t even flinch. He simply brushed back his windswept black hair.
“And you’d better be grateful to Abel.”
《Go on, I’m listening. Speak your piece, foul-mouthed Cain Ethelred!》
“The only reason your precious Elder is alive is because of Abel.”
《Ha! You mean you couldn’t kill her.》
Cain’s violet eyes flashed in the fading light.
Glumiêm knew he couldn’t reach her from this distance.
Yet, for a moment, she felt a chill, as if her heart had stopped.
“Are you sure about that?”
《…….》
Again, she found herself speechless. She naturally wanted to laugh it off as nonsense, but her instincts told her otherwise.
Cain pointed his middle finger, the one he had just raised, at Glumiêm’s head.
“You better live long enough to see Abel come for you himself, Elf Queen.”
《Young Ethelred.》
“It’s Cain.”
《……Very well. I am defeated today, so I shall entertain your arrogant request, Cain Ethelred.》
Only Sigma’s eyes remained now.
The Elf Queen’s gaze, layered over the fading green, pierced through Cain.
《Enjoy your little victory while it lasts. It won’t be long.》
“I heard Edmund entered your forest.”
Cain’s lips curled into a slow, mocking smile.
“Coming from the queen who couldn’t even utter a word back then, your threats hold little weight.”
A critical hit to her pride.
《You little……》
But this time, it was different from her previous anger. This time, there was a hint of discomfort, of unease, in her voice.
‘My knowledge of Edmund is outdated.’
It would be different if she faced him in person, but the power Glumiêm was showing was similar to the power of a boss-level monster found at the Great Wall.
Considering this was far from the Great Wall, and the Empire and Holy See paled in comparison to those threats, Glumiêm was likely considered a top-tier power here.
Yet, even she hesitated at the mention of Edmund. It spoke volumes about the count’s true strength.
《But tell me, will you even make it to the forest?》
Both Sigma’s eyes and the Elf Queen’s gaze narrowed.
《Humans are their own worst enemies, after all.》
Fwooosh!
With those words, Glumiêm’s image, along with the vision of the World Tree, vanished.
The only thing left behind was the exquisite longsword Sigma had been holding.
“Humans are their own worst enemies, huh……”
Cain nodded slowly, pondering her words.
He knew it all too well, though not by choice. It was a harsh truth he learned during his life as a warrior after the Demon King’s death.
“Young Master!”
Vanderbilt, the elderly knight, was the first to reach Cain after Glumiêm’s disappearance.
Oleciren and Isoel followed close behind.
Cain gestured towards the wrecked furniture with his chin.
“Have a seat. We still have over an hour to go.”
“Cain……”
Oleciren’s voice trembled.
She was blaming herself for being useless, hiding behind the two knights when Glumiêm appeared.
Cain studied her for a moment before speaking.
“Did you learn anything?”
“……?”
“The miracles Glumiêm used.”
“Ah, right.”
A witch’s words manifested in the real world; that was the origin of their miracles.
Oleciren had practiced extensively, but the number of words she could actually use was limited.
“That Elf Queen is the only one who throws her weight around without a care for the Holy See. Pay close attention next time.”
“Understood.”
The sun dipped below the horizon, and darkness claimed the sky. In its wake, countless stars twinkled above.
And so, the train continued toward Mainus through the night.
🔹🔹🔹
Wooo━.
Saintess Caterina, who was walking along the forest path, stopped at the strange resonance that resonated from inside her body.
And she looked back to the west. Edmund, who was leading the way, turned his head and asked.
“What’s the matter?”
“I sense the witch’s surge.”
Edmund stretched out his hand into the air.
Putting his hand in the water as if to check the ripples, he nodded his head in the wind.
“Certainly. It must be Glumiêm’s. What will the Saintess do?”
Caterina averted her eyes as if embarrassed to say such a thing.
“The subjugation of the Airian island elves has not always been formally resolved, and the scale of the opponent is too large for the Archdiocese of Mainus to move…….”
She listed the reasons why she couldn’t defeat the witch Glumiêm.
Edmund nodded.
“I understand. It’s difficult to equate the will of God with mortal actions.”
Caterina flinched as she sensed the surge once more, but Edmund caught a glimpse of it and spoke.
“It won’t be long now.”
“Are you referring to our destination?”
“The destruction of Glumiêm.”
“Yes?”
“My dearest friend told me. Glumiêm dies at the hands of one named Ethelred.”
Caterina and the other priests welcomed the news, but Edmund’s eyes were indifferent.
