“How can it be that we still haven’t taken care of those terrorists when the Speaker of the Kingdom of Britannia’s parliament is coming to visit in only five days?”
“They are also proving to be a difficult opponent. They must be skilled individuals, at least at the Master level or above. . . . . . .”
“Are you trying to make excuses now?”
“Chief of Staff, that’s enough.”
“But Your Excellency.”
A middle-aged man was restraining a much younger man in the midst of a heated argument. He was Jean Bradlay, the 12th President of the Democratic Republic.
The term of office for the President of the Republic was 10 years, so the Democratic Republic was celebrating the 111th anniversary of its founding since the first President, Napoleon.
“Do you not understand what it means to say that Philippe is struggling? There is no Master-level expert in the Republic who is stronger than Philippe.”
“Then shouldn’t we call in some other Masters?”
“Let’s call in the Glory Knife Regiment.”
Glory Knife.
Also known as the Daggers of Glory, this unit was one of the special forces of the Democratic Republic. It was a unit that used flash jump magic, which was similar to blink but consumed less magical power and allowed even non-wizards to easily teleport like with blink, using artifacts from the age of magic.
To be precise, they carried daggers engraved with flash jump runes and could teleport by throwing the daggers and following them as far as the daggers traveled.
In addition, they used various artifact weapons imbued with rune magic and were a group composed of individuals who were at least upper-level aura users so that they would not be outmatched in close combat.
They were comparable to a knightly order in the Empire or the Kingdom. And the person commanding such a Glory Knife was also a Master belonging to the Democratic Republic named Ulrich Nightroad. He was a colonel and a rising star among Masters.
They were effectively one of the most powerful forces in the Democratic Republic. They were originally stationed in the eastern border region.
The decision had been made to call in such a force to quell this act of terrorism. Of course, the Empire would not invade the Republic without any justification. . . . Even so, there was concern that there would be a gap in security as they vacated the border.
“Certainly. . . . . . . Glory Knife might be able to catch those terrorists.”
A day later, the Glory Knife Regiment arrived in the capital, Madrid, via a warp gate.
The 5,000 Glory Knife Regiment soldiers marched in an orderly fashion, each wearing a tailored uniform. They wore black long coats with hoods and covered their faces with masks.
In addition, they wore ornate silver goggles that added a touch of sophistication. Similarly, silver pauldrons were equipped on their left shoulders, silver gauntlets on both arms, silver greaves protected both shins, and black combat boots provided mobility.
As for weapons, they had two daggers, and other artifacts such as necklaces could be seen.
Oswald and Alicia watched the sight from among the crowd.
“Glory Knife. . . . . . . It seems the Democratic Republic is serious about this.”
“You know them?”
“Yeah, they’re one of the top three special forces units in the Democratic Republic. All 5,000 members are at least upper-level aura users, and each and every one of them is armed with artifacts made with rune magic from the age of magic. Because of that, even though they’re upper-level aura users, they can easily hold their own against expert-level knights.”
“It’s a good thing we’ve almost finished cleaning them up.”
“That’s true. . . . . . . Now all that’s left are the Libertas paladins. . . . . . .”
The problem was that they were paladins who truly served the goddess Libertas. Their stronghold was the Church of the Goddess Libertas located within Madrid, and the Libertas Church was the state religion of the Republic. It meant that it would be difficult to mess with them.
“There’s no helping it, we have no choice but to keep an eye on them through Peace Eye. . . . . . .”
They also planned to monitor any other forces that might re-enter the capital, Madrid.
And so, the terrorism was more or less brought to a close. However. . . . . . .
“You guys?”
A grimace.
Oswald’s senses reacted violently, and when he turned around, he saw a woman with long, navy-colored hair.
“But. . . . . . . You look familiar?”
As she said this, she opened something like a notebook, searched for something, and then clapped her hands.
Snap!
“You, you’re that guy? The one that Valerian had his eye on.”
“. . . . . . .”
Oswald was dumbfounded to hear Valerian’s name here.
No matter how rotten Oswald was, the Dark Brotherhood was a group of people who were hard to meet, and they were characters that could not be played even with a mod.
“Are you from the Dark Brotherhood?”
“That’s right, I’m Zephyr Katarina. As you can see, I’m an assassin. But more importantly. . . . . . . Aren’t you two with the Restorationist terrorist group?”
“. . . . . . .”
“Care to tell me why an imperial citizen would do such a thing?”
At that, Oswald began to think that he might be able to get help from the Brotherhood and began to explain the whole story.
“Hmm. . . . . . . So, you’re saying that the Empire’s Fourth Prince is supposed to be assassinated here in Madrid during the President’s inauguration?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“And the Empire is going to use that as an opportunity to start a war?”
“Yes, that’s exactly it.”
“Sigh. . . . . . .”
Katarina suddenly sighed and grimaced.
“Seriously, that son of a b**** Valerian. . . . . . .”
Katarina looked as though she had stepped in something disgusting. She was angry that she had come with a light heart only to encounter the most difficult and demanding task. This was an incident that, if handled poorly, could engulf the entire continent in war.
“So, who are the culprits?”
“For the time being, we have managed to round up the Revolutionary Party, which is believed to have colluded with the Imperialists. We’ve also taken care of all the other revolutionary organizations that have a grudge against the Empire. In order to avoid exposing ourselves in the process. . . . . . .”
“You disguised yourselves as Restorationists?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Well. . . . . . . It’s the antithesis of liberalism, so it would be a suitable reason for terrorism. The story is good.”
“. . . . . . .”
