My Children Swarm the Cosmos – Chapter 38.2

NOVEMBER 28. A versatile cruiser which had been assigned to the Darwin Foundation’s pursuit fleet passed through the Opeltes Cloud of the Nemea star system.

The versatile cruiser entered the small planet of Nemea and landed at the spaceport on the surface of the planet. And the condition of the ship was a total wreck, as if it had barely escaped from a battlefield.

The gun barrel was torn as if it had been bitten by a large beast, and the distorted armor was full of holes and scorched.

Amidst the unstable engine noise, several anti-gravity vehicles gathered around the versatile cruiser.

𝘛𝘩𝘶𝘥!

Those who got out of the vehicle were the private soldiers of the Darwin Foundation.

“C-Commander. . . !!”

Brinicle Duo. The commander of the private soldiers of the Darwin Foundation came down in front of them using the mechanical staircase.

Brinicle’s face is haggard, as if he had taken on all the worries of the world. In addition, he has blood-stained bandages on his limbs, making him look unwell.

And his appearance of getting off the large versatile cruiser alone is also suspicious. The fact that the commander got off the versatile cruiser, not the main command ship, alone seems to show the result of the pursuit fleet.

One of the privates asks him.

“What about the other soldiers. . . ?”

“. . . We’re defeated.”

Anyone can see that.

“Kreion killed everyone. He killed everyone except me.”

“Why. . .”

Brinicle stopped the private’s words by showing his palm.

“I saw something strange while passing through the Opeltes Cloud earlier.”

“Ah. . . That. . .”

“Where did Apoptology disappear?”

“We were hit. While the main force was assigned to the pursuit fleet, Kreion brought the chimeraZ swarm and. . . destroyed our facility.”

“I thought so, but this is ridiculous. . .”

At the news, Brinicle grabbed his face with one hand.

“Rather than that, is the chief safe?”

“Fortunately, the chief succeeded in evacuating. I heard that a ship came in a while ago, and he’s coming this way from Argos.”

“. . . I’d like to rest for a while.”

“Yes. Commander. I’ll take you to the vehicle.”

🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹

There are several buildings of the Darwin Foundation on the spaceport site. They are low buildings, less than 30 stories high, that originally handled the work of the private soldiers and mercenaries of the Darwin Foundation separately or served as their resting place.

Many people are dead and Apoptology is lost. So there are not many people inside the building, and it looks empty overall.

The office-like space used by a private soldier leader lost its owner and has now become a place where Francis Darwin and Brinicle Duo talk alone.

“Everyone is dead. . . ? The whole pursuit fleet?”

“Yes. Chief. When we arrived there after chasing the Aooa Fleet, they had already set up colonies on three planets and had even floated living things into orbit.”

“No, even so, Kreion must have had time while he was leading the Lemegetons and invading Apoptology?”

“We somehow managed to clean up one planet. . . The resistance was fierce. The number of troops in that legion was much larger than we had originally expected, so it was not easy to push back the front line.”

“Commander, didn’t I tell you to destroy them? It wasn’t just push them back with an orbital bombardment or drop some nukes?”

“They were too many to push back with an orbital bombardment. The moment we dropped a nuke, it was intercepted, and the space was swarming with Cresecters carrying the Lemegetons.”

“Cresecter?”

“It’s a chimera aircraft with a crescent-shaped head. It’s the one that shoots out a clump of plasma from its butt. In addition, the Lemegeton battleship units used weapons comparable to those of a main battleship, piercing the shield of our fleet and destroying the ship in one blow.”

Darwin couldn’t close his open mouth.

“They’ve already evolved to that extent. . .”

“With the fleet battle going on like that, we didn’t have any room for gun resources. Nevertheless, we had the advantage in firepower, but soon Kreion appeared leading the fleet. . . From then on, we were completely pushed back.”

“How did you survive and return?”

“Kreion let me go. He told me to meet the chief and deliver the news of the defeat.”

Medusa-class.

The danger level of Kreion engraved in that way came to Darwin’s mind.

Kreion had already grown and evolved into a Medusa-class. One race itself was born wrong and could no longer be reversed.

“This wasn’t supposed to happen. . . How did this happen. . .”

“Chief. The Foundation has lost too much. That’s why I have something important to tell you.”

“What is it?”

“I don’t know if you’ll believe me or not, but Kreion made a really unexpected statement to me.”

As Brinicle hesitated, Darwin urged him to speak quickly with his eyes.

“He said he didn’t want to fight.”

“Doesn’t want to fight. . . Who?”

“He said he didn’t want to fight with humans anymore.”

Is it true that Kreion, who was designed to hate other races and felt great betrayal towards humans, really made such a statement?

“What is that. . .”

“That’s why Kreion said he wanted to hear the chief’s thoughts. Chief. What do you think?”

If Brinicle’s words are true and Kreion’s statement to Brinicle was sincere.

Then it might be possible to prevent things from getting worse here. The worst-case scenario of a race created by his own hands threatening humanity in the future.

If it could be stopped now, even now, if it could be resolved peacefully through dialogue now, what would happen?

Kreion’s statement may be false, but from Darwin’s point of view, the answer is obvious.

He was also a human being. He was one of the many humans who made up the human race.

And anyone, anyone, would choose humanity in such a situation.
