When the approaching clan [Hope] came into view, Chieftain Rasil realized that his left foot had subtly moved back.

A primal instinct.

At the forefront was probably the Battle God Asuka, followed closely by Strategist Lionel.

They were like living legends.

Their aura was distinct.

Despite their formidable nature, he couldn’t see a clear path to victory.

He sternly suppressed his instinct to flee, crossed his arms, and stood his ground.

“Greetings, [Hope]. We welcome you.”

He smiled, revealing his fangs.

It was meant to be half a threat, but Strategist Lionel returned it without a hint of fear.

“Pleased to meet you, Chief Rasil. After all, we can’t make a fair judgment without hearing both sides.”

“The raiding party was attacked out of nowhere.”

“That was necessary to quell the disturbance. But if there were any injuries, let us know. We’ll provide treatment.”

“No problem.”

Saying so, Rasil invited Lionel and his party into the mansion.

The room was a spacious reception area.

Even with the six from [Hope] entering, there was plenty of space left.

Of course, since the bodies of beastkin are larger than humans, everything was made big and spacious.

“Are you guys mediating this matter for us?”

“It seems we’ve ended up in that role.”

With that, Lionel began asking Rasil several questions.

The account Rasil gave differed slightly from Dortl of Akashil’s version.

One such difference was that Rasil didn’t oppose Athlei’s marriage to Nina as strongly, as long as certain conditions were met.

For instance, if Nina would live in Morug village, or if she would nominally become a secondary wife, that sort of thing.

These points were strikingly similar to the ones Lionel had discussed with Asuka on their journey, making the others marvel at their leader’s analytical prowess and foresight.

“So my final question. Why did you attack Akashil? What kind of harassment did they commit?”

“. . . . . .How did you know we were being harassed? Did Dortl confess?”

As if seeing something unbelievable, Rasil stared at Lionel’s face.

“No way. No one would willingly reveal information that is disadvantageous to them. You’re the same, right?”

Spreading his arms, Lionel explained it was merely deduction.

If they were seriously intending to conquer and occupy Akashil, sending a force of only fifteen was too few.

Considering the size of Morug village, they could easily mobilize ten to twenty times that number.

Why didn’t they? It’s simple.

The attack was nothing more than harassment.

That’s why they didn’t intrude inside the buildings and kill the residents. At most, they committed destruction and arson, and didn’t attack the people who came out to extinguish the fire.

“If you think about why they would do such a thing, the answer comes easily. It’s retaliation, right?”

“. . . . . .So this is the Strategist. . . . . .”

Rasil groaned and conceded, starting to tell the story of the incident.

After Nina’s death, the young people of Akashil began to harass Morug.

They would scribble on the village walls or urinate on the sides.

Even worse, they would shout abuses and use violence on beastkin women who were out on trading trips.

In short, it seemed that Nina was an idolized figure among the young people.

They vented their anger over her unjust death on the beastkin.

Athlei had vowed to protect her with his life, and so they had stood back, but then he failed to protect and ended up dying, that’s how it felt, if you were to put it in a caricature.

And then, the beastkin could not stay silent about such a thing.

They, too, had lost Athlei, who was supposed to take on the next generation.

Mainly, wasn’t it the Akashil group who opposed marrying her off? That’s why they had no choice but to elope.

Getting attacked by bandits was unfortunate, but even so, Athlei fought desperately to protect Nina.

The fact that he took five of them with him tells the tale of his struggle.

He might not have been able to save the day, but there’s no room to doubt Athlei’s courage and love.

He was undeniably a hero.

Are humans just a bunch of fools who do not even know how to respect a hero who has fallen?

And that would be the psychology of the beastkin.

If they are harassed, they retaliate as a matter of course.

“Typical, both parties are in a situation where they can’t back down.”

Salieri, leaking out his impressions with a broad grin.

It’s a conflict of emotions.

Even if they do such a thing, they all know that it won’t solve anything.

Both the beastkin and the humans have lost something they cherished.

They’re just venting their frustration.

“I’ve got the situation. Neither side is right, so call it a truce. We, [Hope], will take care of this conflict.”

Having finished listening to the story, Lionel declared gravely.

The game of harassment is over.

If you have a complaint, it means that [Hope] will take over the fight.

It’s quite a strong-arm approach, but without it, neither side would back down.

“. . . . . . Understood. Will you set up a venue?”

After thinking for a long time, Rasil accepted the proposal.

He must have understood too.

That they were repeating useless things.

“If I knew it was going to come to this, I wouldn’t have opposed it. I wouldn’t have set conditions. I should have just supported the two.”

Folding his hands in front of his chest, he murmurs as if praying.

Or perhaps repenting.

Whether it’s human or beastkin, there’s a trap set in their hearts. They don’t realize the importance until they lose it.

“I am a terrible father. Athlei and Nina must hate me.”

“That’s not true. After all, they’re both smiling now.”

Saint Meisha spoke, tapping the shoulder of Rasil, who was mumbling with his head down.

Surprised, the head of the beastkin raised his head, and she pointed to a spot.

No one other than Meisha could see what was there.

“Thank you. . . . . . Saint. . . . . . .”

Tears flowed down his stern face.
